Great Used Family Cars under 5 Years Old - there are loads of great cars not on this list, I've just picked out a few from my trawl on AutoTrader today that seem like decent value for money.
All these cars are advertised at the time of filming as ULEZ / Clean Air Zone complaint and HPI clear but always do your own checks.
These cars all look like fantastic value to me right now - go and take a look for yourself over on AutoTrader.

Hi Jim. Cracking video, thank you for sharing the information on all those. Loving that S90 for the money! Thank you VERY much for shouting me out at the end. I really appreciate you doing that for me. To be honest I was totally blown away by it. Thank you for giving me such a glowing report! It was great chatting to you the other day, I look forward to speaking to you again one day. All the very best! Mark
Glad to help Mark - I’d love an S90
Jim
Great video and nice to see such a wide variety of cars being considered unlike many other channels👍
Thanks 👍
Car prices are heading for a Bloodbath i believe prices will super plumet this year they will drop a lot but we all knew this would happen so hold on to your money if you can guys good times ahead
👍
make it so!
I was one of your first few hundred subs. You're really good at this, mate. Great to get used car content as well
Thanks for hanging around! 👍
Some excellent advice, thanks Jim
Very welcome
Great video Jim. Thanks 👍
Very welcome
Sensible and practical advice as always
Thank you
Wandering why I’m so pleased you’ve mentioned not one but two Volvos in this video 🙃
Keeping my coffee members happy 😂😂😂
Great vid again Jim 👍👍
Thanks Andy 👍
Great vid, very handy info. My Evoque lease ends at the end of this year, need a family car with space no less than the Evoque and cheaper running costs. 2nd hand or a new lease (maybe via my own ltd company), ev/petrol undecided, but the Q5 looks tempting! Thanks for surfacing these decent options!
Glad it was helpful! good luck with the search, just dont buy a used Evoque!
👍👍👍.Thank you Jim
Very welcome
Leased a Leon for a coupe of years. The 1.5 litre engine is cracking too. I had the manual which was great fun. Much better looking than the golf in my opinion so long as you don't consider a VW badge as premium over Seat.
I've just had an Ateca delivered for my next Men & Motors review, it's the 1.5 DSG - it really is a decent little powerplant.
Jim I'm disappointed you didn't mention a reliant robin I'm looking out for one for the wife , I've told her their really safe and great on the corners . 🤣
I thought that as you need to buy two (one for each foot), I’d give them a wide berth.
Thanks jim
Thank you Bernard 👍
Thanks
👍👍
Hey Jim, I’m looking at spending around £10k for a second car but with a bit of style. Not fussed about mpg or insurance (53 years old). Up to 20 years old, 2 seater would be fine. Was thinking Merc SL or CLS but worried about reliability issues.
Would live to know your thoughts
You can book a call if you want a chat James, difficult to give advice via the comments with limited info. Reliability might be an issue on those two though.
The Corolla is brilliant.why I have the 2.0 gr hybrid.brilliant car.buy one
👍👍
Had a 2005 Corolla around 10 years ago. Only got it as a last resort as someone wrote off my Ford, so needed something asap for work. I swore I'd never keep the Toyota, but I got used to the shape and I was hugely impressed by the reliability (way way way better than Ford). Clocked up 165000 miles on it then bought a civic which has been just as dependable and easy to service. I do like the look of the new Corolla so I'm thinking of buying one this year. Already seen a few of my workmates go over to the Toyota Corolla side so I may be next....
I think the Seat Leon FR are decent value for money, great to drive but I would only get one in manual, no thanks to the DSG. Totally agree on the built quality on the new Audis, recently went to view a Q7 and it was poor inside and the drive too, opted for the X5 instead
Fair enough!
Hi Jim, do you think the Honda Civic EHEV sport trims at £26-27k ex demonstration (10-15,000 miles on the clock) is a cheap deal overall, can you see these cars holding value well or not depreciating quite so dramatically as new after 2 years if requiring to sell? Thanks
It’s really hard to say with all the changes going on but Hondas usually hold value quite well. 10/15k seems a lot for an ex demo. I’d try and get 3 years free servicing thrown in plus extended warranty. Great car.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru thanks for the advice, I believe a lot of the salesmen have been using these demos on the side to be honest (atleast with a chat with one dealership) a lot of them seem to have the additional silver trim pack’s or black spoilers applied to them for the show factor, I did test drive one and as per your video, you’re right! Brilliant all round car 👌
Galaxy has not been taxed since June last year. Just been MOT'd after failing, ( seat belt buckle) and still with the previous advisories which really should be fixed by the dealer.
Agreed
Interesting, a very wide range of cars covered. Have one year old bargains returned now depreciation is returning to normal. If it is, there might be a good video in that.
Maybe 👍
Interesting on the honda . I've got the last gen civic with 12,000 miles and FHSH. Been back to dealer 3 times in 4 months, still has rattles, TPMS fault and ( my fault for not long enough test drive ) poor long drive seating position. Previous honda had for 8 years with no issues. Brand damaged.
👌
Cheers Jim, how reliable are the tax figures on these cars. With the cars less than 5 yrs old and were over £40k list price don’t you pay more than the standard rate stated in the add? Someone could get a nasty surprise when it comes due!
No idea I’m afraid mate, they do all seem suspiciously similar but I’m well out of tune with how VED works these days
I have a 330d Touring on a 68 plate and the tax is £540ish a year. Insurance is £800. I bought it at £27k on 10k miles 14 months ago. I've paid out £450 a month on HP and now it's worth £20k. Admittedly, I bought it during the chip shortage when used prices went silly, but this thing is costing me a bomb. I just ordered one of those Cupra Leon V1s on a 1+23 for £250 a month to replace it. The BMW is a superb all rounder (46mpg in my hands) but it's too pricey for me. The Cupra will be almost half the monthly cost and has a lot more modern toys. That N57 is a powerhouse though and it even sounds glorious. I will miss it...
Too right. You get hit with a VED surcharge of 390GBP every year between Years 2 and 6 if the car cost over 40K when new. Thats on top of whatever the standard VED is. That is going to come as a nasty surprise to a lot of folk in the next few years.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru this ‘luxury car’ tax will also apply to EVs from April 25 (which will be most of them based on current new prices) as well as them starting to pay VED - could be a subject for another video!
@@worldofcars_ldn it will be 👍
Hi, can you do the same for automatics please
👍
Neighbour dsg box on 2022 Tiguan 20k miles needs replacement. Shocking
Really? Wow
I have dsg on a tts with 130k and it’s fine.
How about the Vauxhall insignia?
I like them
Nearly gave up,ads were too long b4 your vlog started.
Nothing to do with me. Take it up with TH-cam.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru
Thanks, I will but it’s a money making thing and they won’t give a shit.
@@davidknight8172 £10 per month to turn them off I think :(
No Octavia estate ?
No
The BMW 3 series would have the service history on the idrive and there isn't a service book🤪
Yep, the idrive can be “got at” fairly easily so worth verifying everything with receipts or calls to dealers as I said in the video
4:47 2019 330d with 50000 miles for only 12k something has to be seriously wrong with it no way it can go for that low
It's only just under the market rate and it's a private seller rather than a dealer. Could be a lemon of course but could just be a motivated seller.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru unless is a cat vehicle 330d from even 2016 with the same mileage go for 18k or even more
@burstmage6982 there’s one with 70k on for £12999, there’s was one with 60k for £12600 earlier but it’s gone. All 2019 cars. Plenty of dealers asking much more for similar cars too. Every car in this video could be a dog for all we know, just looking at listings.
👋
👍👍
ULEZ compliant in Jan 2024 Those goalposts will move again and again
Of course, which is why I made the point
✌❤
👍👍👍👍👍
Bmw 330d is ex police.
Did you call about it? should have been serviced every 10 mins then but obviously some of the police ones had pretty major (but unique) engine troubles due to the way they're used.
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru says it in the advert now.
Ak OK - will be weird spec then too.
