- To remove a branch or not to remove a branch, that is the question!
This Garden Juniper was last repotted in 2022, not 2023 as I state in the video.

Great call on the big snip there. I like the new look. Hopefully it will recover once it gets its spring repot.
I refresh youtube about every 3 hours hoping to see a new bonsai zone! Hands down the my favorite channel since i got into the hobby last summer. Thanks nigel.
So much better, Nigel. I found that cascade extension distracting from early on. With it gone, I can see the start of a better triangle. Now to add width at the base!
absolutely the right decision Nigel! a much better look for the tree!
Great decision Nigel and great observation 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉..
All the best with you awesome tree🎉🎉🎉
Wow, i really like the new look of the tree. Definitely a big cut for an improvement in the tree....Bottom line is that its your tree and you look at every day. 👍👍 With just a little trimming , the rear of the tree could easily become a new front...🤔
Hope it does well this year Nigel 👊
great decision. wow, looks old and wind blown and charming!
Snow in the North 40 with Dr. Nigel working on his patient. Students. Bring pencil and paper and an apple for the good doctor.
Thank you for all you do❤🎉😊
Good choice👍🌳
Nigel, your "bird nest spruce" tree its beautiful.
Good afternoon Nigel. I hope everything is well in Canada. Bonsai on!
Bonsai on indeed!
Like number 100! Good luck with the new chapter in the life of this juniper 👍
Much better! That cascading branch was odd. Looks more sophisticated now. Try Canadian tire for safe t zorb!
Agreed! Looks much better
My eye sees a tiny tree with the entire top off and using the first set of lower branches as the new tree.
Hi Nigel, good decision with the cascade branch! A wise man said: If you are in doubt… etc. 😉
much much better, and the bark speaks out now. (or how do you say that)
Which trees do you start first in repot season? Which ones are less risky to do cause we have had a harsh winter this year.
Isn‘t this the 50$ challenge Tree?? So good!
What ever happened with your Moringa seeds you planted 8 years ago? I've got some planted now, and was hoping to find a Nigel vid with some lessons learnt :)
What kind of potting mix you recommend for Cascade Juniper Nigel ?
Hi Nigel. . Today we had a little snow and all my Junipers were covered with snow. Would my Junipers suffer from the snow ? Ofcourse I shook off the snow from the branches .
Last year w didn't have any snow at all but the temperature today was 7 °C above.
Would they be ok ?
Since there is no wrong (with the one minor exception of killing the tree) it's all preference. I'd have kept the cascade, especially with clip-and-grow it takes a long time to form such a branch and maybe it might have died off anyway. But if you really didn't want to develop it any farther then the whole branch would have made a nice jin feature.
Regardless I really like this juniper and look forward to updates when it is thriving once again.
Yes Nigel the right cut. It looks like j. procumbens , I wouldn't worry too much, that you're doing the wrong thing. This species is prone to die back and generally a juniper that is not favoured by most bonsai enthusiasts.
Imperial Home Hardware carries safe t sorb.
I think from the back you can make better front.
Been here done this, first...🤣
He Nigel, I've been a subscriber and viewer since 2017. You basically started my bonsai hobby 😅 now I'm trying to start my own bonsai channel, and it would be an honor if you could just check it out once 😅thank you very much 😊
Done!!!
