Hi Rick. I like the look of your boxes especially in cedar which holds properties condusive to orchid growth.........I wouldn't think that we could get the sizes you use......only at exhorbitant price. The weather is lovely and warm in Alabama .......wish I could lounge in that heat..... our maximum temperature for at least another week is 13c......and it's supposed to be summer. Some of the plants I have put in lava rock have started to respond in a very positive way........I'll show them when I can handle the camera properly........take care my friend, Ed.
Can't tell you how happy I am to see your videos coming again after such a long hiatus. God bless you with good health always. I'm just so happy to watch and listen to you RIck 😊😊😊
Love these boxes! I made two out of material I already had - scrap wood, with hardware cloth as a bottom - a short while ago, after seeing them in your videos. Holes will be added as soon as I find my set of Forstner bits.
Very clever design Rick with drilled holes & mesh bottoms🎉🎉 The baskets looked so intricate I thought they were stone 😂 these are now on my to do list....just wanted to say growing orchids are such a joy now, thanks to your great teaching. I've extended your philosophy on orchids to grow better plants overall...fruit trees, berries, rosemary, sage, lavender. The only downside is my craft room competes with being a garden shed🤭
Boy, you werent just whistling Dixie about that calcium and magnesium. My roots look scary, they're so fat and happy and have a mind of their own! I love it! Thanks Rick! I feel like I've been given the secrets to the universe! I'm so glad you're back and feeling good. God love you, Rick. 😊
Rick… thanks for all your videos… my experiments with bag babies has worked wonderfully in lava and perlite. I had a very special phal that the roots kept dying no matter what medium I used. When I stumbled upon your videos I planted it in lava, perlite combo. It was totally rootless..now roots are popping out all over. Thank you for sharing your information. Take care
Rick, you are super handy with those tools and I loved those baskets the moment I saw them years ago on your channel! If you ever have extra time and extra baskets, please let me buy it from you! They are adorable!!!!
Roger mentioned your channel and I was curious because I grow outside too and all the other channels I watch grow inside. I’m in Australia and it rains a lot in autumn and is pretty hot and these baskets are perfect to save my plants from root rot. I love your channel and your honesty. I pray blessings for you and your family.
Thx Rick. This goes straight to my save list together with all your other DIY videos, such as your pot clips . Thx for sharing your knowledge. Have a great day.
It's always so exciting to see you posting! Miss you, rick! You've taught me SO MUCH about orchids. Especially their roots. You taught me to experiment and what certain orchids like. I hope you're doing well. How have you been feeling?
👩🏾🌾 Rick, thank you for demonstrating how to construct your orchid boxes. 💁🏽♀️I've wanted to know how to put orchid boxes together since I began following your channel. 🙏🙏🙏
This is a really good (much simpler design) than using thin strips of cedar with multiple layers (traditional orchid baskets). I know Home Depot and Lowes sells cedar boards, but I need to price it out! Thanks Rick!
Greetings for you Rick and Jan….. This is my next project for sure, 😆. I think it was three years ago, me and my husband made baskets out of cedar board. But I think this one is much stronger than the baskets. So watch out for it….. By the way Rick I have a question in your last video before this one. Please check on your leisure time. Thank you so much. 🤗
Good evening.... you already responded to my question. The notification was late. Thank you so much Rick for your visit at MyLittleJungle, I dearly appreciate it. Yes I always want to share my morning walk... I actually love talking even if my tongue is twisted sometimes. Hahahah
Back to building 😊 this is great! If you aren’t careful, you will be inundated with orders from everyone with 2 left thumbs … ahem… the likes of me. I am far away, so it won’t be me asking you if you couldn’t just make me some 🤭 wishing you and your camera lady a beautiful evening 🥰
Love your boxes Mr. Rick, of course your orchids are doing great 😁..that’s a given! I come from carpenter bloodline (horticulture also now that I’m thinking about it..) built horse jumps and dog coops for one.. so I particularly enjoy your creations, be they wire, wood or both. First female to take wood shop in school.. I’m older than dirt lol. Still have the cherry gun rack and ash fishing net frame. They’re probably antique 🤣.. Thanks for the video, they have helped me so much 🌸🙏🏼🌿
Wow!! I think I can even do this!! Great video Rick. I’m definitely going to do this. I love your orchid baskets. Thank you for sharing. It is appreciated! 😊
......do you mean the mesh that I use on the bottom......If so....I get it at Home Depot or Lowes........the green wire that I use to tie orchids down with comes from the same places.
Thanks for posting this, I love those little boxes! I didn't know about the gutter guard on the bottom. I would like to make some with a 6" depth for some of my bigguns, though... Does it have to be cedar?

thanks Shanan......Facebook........yes and no....I started a orchid page, but have not gone public yet.......I wanted a place for others to show off thier orchids and ideas.....
Hi again, I was re-watching an older video of yours where you talk about a nitrogen experiment. The one that was done on 12 orchids and each got varying amounts of nitrogen throughout the year. Do you remember? I’m wondering if you can talk a little about nitrogen . Can I add it to every watering? Like calcium ? Ty❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
