In a local interview during this time she told of the grueling months long field eliminations before he even got to China for the 13 televised weeks of the final elimination rounds. Well, she said all of a sudden we realized he'd completely run out of stagewear ! So much exhaustive new material to find, get scored, arranged, learned, rehearsed, no one thought of it. Here he was, in China, we were all home, his Father's career, the other children and now we were all scrambling. Friends, neighbors, relatives running all over Kazakhstan madly looking for suitable things and he's 6'3" remember and overnighting them. It was a nightmare and he called. Mom, about the stagewear. I'd really appreciate 3 selections of each item; colors, you know. Gasping, the interviewer said, What did you say ? She looked down for a moment, then up straight into the camera, smiled demurely and said NO. The house came down.

However, they forgot to obtain permission from Vitas in a timely manner, and he and his team of lawyers would not grant permission to Dimash to perform the song publicly. Fortunately for us, and to the chagrin of Vitas, the Chinese had already streamed the performance online. Dimash decided to surprise the audience with a lively version of three additional key changes on top of the one done in the original. Unbeknownst to Dimash, his father had come from Kazakhstan to watch him perform this song and surprised him at the end of the performance. Dimash was so happy and excited to see his dad. I watched some behind-the-scenes footage from after the performance. Dimash actually asked his dad if he thought that his performance had been ok. Lol. He is so humble. Opera2 was the second performance of The Singer competition in 2017 in China. The song is in Russian. A language he also speaks fluently. The original was from the famous Russian singer named Vitas. The song is very famous and popular in China. The audience already knew what to expect, but were very surprised when Dimash raised the pitch three times. Vitas but only once. The man who raises his fist in the air at the end is Dimash’s father. He came from Kazakhstan to support his son. However, Dimash knew nothing about it when he performed. I think it was very difficult for him at the beginning. You have to imagine, until this competition in China in 2017 he never was alone. Dimash, like many other Kazakhs, has the tradition of living under one roof with the whole family all together. He lives with his grandparents, parents, a sister, a brother an other relatives in the same house. Only one interpreter came along and that at the age of 22. He was almost a kid to me then (my son is 20 so I can imagine…). And after that performance he saw his dad. So beautiful and emotional. BTW the audience is also the jury. During the Opera 2 performance, he flirted with the audience in a way that wasn’t really his habit at the time (fortunately that has changed in the meantime). And afterwards he said that he was really uncomfortable that his father saw him like that🤭. Luckily he didn’t find out until afterwards because I love it when he’s like that on stage🥰. I love this video because he still seemed so innocent. Just a boy and he didn't seem as serious as he sometimes is these days. He still looked carefree.
