I find it actually pretty humbling to see these guys at their work. No proper tools or what a Western mechanic would call a workshop. And the younger lads right there playing just an important part as their older workmates. You all have my admiration of your skill and ability.

Absolutely amazing! What fascinates me is how they can remember where everything goes back - it seems no One is co-ordinating the strip-down and each person takes off whatever they can so that it seems impossible to have a recollection [no workshop manuals here] of where each part goes. Tea break is on the job, no down tools and off to the smoko room. Impact wrench - club hammer to the end of a ring spanner! With the resources they have, they do an amazing job - take my hat off to them. Oh, and forget about school - these boys are learning something much more valuable then government curriculum!
What is refreshing to see is these kids and they look 10yrs old! They are motivated with no power tools, no bench to work on, no sturdy shoes. Just your brain and willing to learn and make do. I would be so proud of these kids, what invaluable knowledge they are taking in. A kid learning to use his hands will not fail in life.

In the early '60's I was about the same age as these boys, working in my father's rural garage, and my job was to disassemble engines and clean all the parts. Then I watched as my father rebuilt those engines.

I was so happy to see a head gasket, crank seal, and exhaust manifold gaskets. That magic gasket in a can will only get you so far!

They are learning how to live in the world that they live in, not the world that YOU live in. Just think, if they had all the skills that you have and live where they live. They would most likely be useless dependents on others that learned a useful trade like you see them doing in the video. Not everybody lives on your planet. This is obviously an alien culture to you. These kids are not 'poor kids' they are very fortunate kids to have found these skilled mentors that are willing to share their knowledge. The poor kids are down the street chasing rats at the city dump.

If your learned and skilled you can hold any nut/bolt and know it's grade and its max torque requirement along with the part !!! You don't need all the fancy tools high dollar crap 🤣👍 It's fun reading comments 😜
I watched this carefully, as a 30 year mechanic, gas/diesel/2 cycle/4 cycle, air or liquid cooled, bike/boat/car/truck/tractor I have worked on everything! NEVER have I seen engine tear-down and build, not using a manual, bolt loosening/tightenimng sequence ((head, crank)) or without the use of a decent accurate torque wrench. ESPECIALLY an industrial diesel engine, I give that engine a week before it blows apart, simply amazing!
Seeing you know it all, get off your polished ass and go visit. Then you'll see how their unqualified, uncalibrated lives actually succeed through something you will never understand. Basic hard work and grit.

Putting back in place all the dismantled parts of the engine whhich are mixed with one another requires extraordinary mechanical skill. Give these guys a complete set of modern tools and they will trouble shoot any engine problem with perfection! Salute to ingenuity and skills guys.
The more I watch these vids I'm blown away how they just take it all apart without any seen organizing of pieces yet still get it together perfectly. RESPECT!!!!!

it's only wrong based on our way of doing things. For them, as long as the engine runs, it's a success. Sure, it may burn oil and need another repair eventually, but they're not thinking about that.

@@learjet7491 i guess at a 30th of our cost or a garage cost around here. This engine will do its job ! Just to look at the before in the coolant they where too much water for a LONG period of time just by looking at it. its not the same around their place as ours. I did see very well rebuild engine not last.. and some not so well rebuild last.. so . I guess overall their jobs seems to be ok !

I love it. They assembled the engine without a torque wrench and no bolt pattern. My C mechanic knows to get the bolt pattern and torque specs before trying to assemble any engine.

Seems like the kid knows a thing or too. Like he kept one bolt not to drop the disc on his toes. This is fortunatly still common around the world, only the west got lost with lazy unenthusiastic spoiled kids, and alot of them have imaginary mental issues, hmm wonder why.
Not a rarity but a necessity, the kid is working to support his family. This is a common sight in Asian countries.
The kids are on job training. They hardly earn 1USD per day, and it is not easy to find place on these workshops.
My dad started working for his father at the age of five.....sanding wooden draw knobs, in a shed!(1933).left school at 14 and was an aprentice electrician for Marconi...then RAF.

This was one of the cleanness engine shoppes I've seen since watching these videos but what was really enlightening was how freely the senior mechanics the two younger ones
to partake in breaking down the engine and you could see that these young ones had any free of making mistakes so the older mechanics had a real talent for teaching.

Agree with others in these comments. Whats so wonderful is to see this team working together. Here, in the west, everything is like done by one guy - its lonely ! But thats also why so many tools are required ! Life is something done in group for these guys.
Impressive what is accomplished with the bare minimum of tools. There is a lot of experience there to use the right amount hammer and torque when reassembling.Hats off to you guys and the youngsters.

These talented workers working together on an engine like honey bees working together on a flower. That's amazing. Pakistani labor is very talented but sadly very underpaid and over worked for their hard work. Mechanics here in Canada 🇨🇦 don't even bother overhauling this kinda engine. They just scrap it and swap a new, used or rebuild engine into the vehicle.

bro, it's a youtube channel, there's a ton of americans that take down broken vehicles and get them back to running order just like this. infact i bet it's way more common in america lol. i've done it to 3 vehicles already. not to mention that fact that these 3rd worlders likely don't have access to the parts and literally can't reliably rebuild an engine.
This is what alot of young kids should be doing learning some kind of physical trade instead of Xbox or a phone.

Actually, this is harmful for everyone touching and working on that engine. We wear gloves not only to protect our skin but to keep oils out of our skin which can get into the blood and cause cancer.
I don't like using extensions where I can get closer to the bolt.
Now, there is nothing wrong with hand tools, but a few parts should be torqued correctly and other parts measured so they are in spec.

This is why I have learned, from a very young age, to do this type of work myself, for myself, by myself, because the only thing I hate more than have to fix a motor once, is having to fix it twice!

I live in Europe and aprox 30% of all people are below the poverty line here. Meaning: they cant afford the rent, food, clothes. Life is very expensive here, heating is very expensive as well is petrol and housing. You cant compare countries by just looking if children are fat. Being fat comes from poor food, poor people are often fatter than richer people (just look at britain), because good healthy food is more costly then a candy bar, snack, or durum shoarma, chips. And sitting behind a screen doesnt help

I love this, as an engineer seeing first hand involvement of youngsters is enlightening in a world of none vocational preferences. The can do attitude and interest is in abundance, not sure about the ceiling light fixture being used as a hoist point be a good idea though:)

Being at the centre of the ceiling doesn't necessarily means it's a light point. They've got a hook drilled into that centre point which serves the purpose

Excellent work ! The master and his crew deserved all the credit. Prerfect example of “Hard working + Talent “. The missing part in all Pakistan Repair videos is the “ professional working culture”. I grow up in a similar society back in 1970s. I worked in a car mechanic shop ( cleaning carburetors, and spark plugs etc). These workers do not have the concept of “ safety “ that we ( in USA) know. They learned skills simply mimicking their uncles / masters. The current “working environment culture “ is comming from generation to generation. For them “ this is the work condition “. They are happy with what they are doing .
The system will not change unless there is a enforcement by superiors (i.e. government )
This is something can be achieved if the government comes up with better training, affordable power tools, improved “ working condition” standards, training and imposing the laws. We are talking about “paradigm shift” here.
So, once implemented there will be improved efficiency and better human health, and prosperity of the society. Like it is happening in developed countries.
For example ; In USA history “Civilian Conservation Corps” had achieved the paradigm shift and improved standards for the workplace safety.

As a non mechanic I only wonder how they know which bolts go where. As far as I saw, they were removing bolts and just throwing them all together in blue buckets.. Respect..
as a mechanic and tyre fitter all i can say is you cant teach experience . get in and have a go. find some one who knows and learn everything thing they can teach

Here in old Europe we have to use a torque wrench on the tightening force and the order of tightening of the bolts. Masters of renovation ;-)
and no gaskets at all, this motor will start to leak in less than a week

I think these guys are pretty experienced, they know how to tighten. I've seen supposedly rebuilds fail even with all best practices followed, even factory engines can't make it off the assembly line. This truck is probably overloaded already and doing just fine.

uhh huh, stuff like criss-cross tightening of circular patterns or specific tightening patterns for the head (or a torque wrench...) are clearly considered western decadence there :P
Also, what in Allah is that sound at 34:28??? The engine should not be making grinding noises *after* a rebuild!

No, they don't. You need a torque wrench at least for the main bearings, rod bearings and the head. The head screws need more torque then in the video.
They do good work for the tools they have. But i think this kind of repairs aren't cheep. So they do repairs for like 1.000 USD they also can buy a torque wrench for 100 USD.

And every bolt probably was damn close. Pretty sure that guys who do this on a dirt floor garage and build their own tools are as good as mechanics as anyone.
@@specforged5651 I'm sure you correct about the torque, but the mixed up the piston, rods etc. on a well used engine. The engine will run, but like shoes, the parts are worn in and should be put back on the correct foot. It

When they were stripping the engine down there must have been at least 30 different parts and places to fit back on how did they know what bolts to put on at certain parts being fitted

Although they knew how to disassemble and reassemble this engine is a bomb waiting to happen. I admire there v hard work. But use gaskets, new bolts amd a torque wrench. You can not assemble an engine without torque. It just want last. Period. These looked like same bolts. If so it want last a week or two. Bolts stretch and can never be reused. If they were new. Then yippy. Still want last without torque. You torque be able when engine gets hot. The bolts stretch then relax. Again admirable, buy want last no time.

I'm proud of those young boys learning a way to earn a living, especially being we live in a country where WAY TOO MANY adults are allowed to lay around all day living off the fruits of the working man. Why are only criminals made to do roadside cleanups yet there's plenty of people milking the system that are doing absolutely zero to pay for their existence on this planet.

engine rebuilt without the electric tools, only hand tools. Government should set up place like this for car repair for homeless people so they can make some money out of it. Provide land, electricity, mechanic (local or import) to train the homeless.

There were some things that I would have been more careful with but generally they did an excellent job.
Indeed. And tighten the head screws is always from inside to outside and crosswards. Needless to say you better use a tool as the torque wrench.
