    The coolest thing about co-op is the lower stakes that allow you to express yourself with your personal favorite spells. Working as a diverse team as opposed to the pressure of getting the optimal solo build is just… amazingly fun to think about

      actually i think it would be easier than you might think, since all that basically has to be done is send updates to eachother, though that might be pain with some fast-cast wands
      but you could always just create a dedicated server instead of direct hosting, that should fix all issues

      @@MinkSquared for a game like this, where the amount of chaos ( mathematical chaos ) is as off the scales as it can be, “just sending updates” would destroy both your computer and your bandwidth.
      You can just send updates about player interaction, and have the same RNG seed for everyone, and that would work at fixing issue 1, but only if the communication happened instantaneously ( including decoding and encoding, encryption, decryption, and every other thing ), and it would still break as soon as some random cosmic radiation ray decides to flip a bit somewhere in RAM.
      You can occasionally send sync packets to fix both issues 2 and 3, but then it would be laggy, unplayable, and everything would randomly teleport.
      You can use a server, that would fix #3, and #4, but it would render #1 and #2 un-fixable.
      So, you have 4 issues:
      - Amount of data to be transferred ( -> severe lag )
      - Communication delays ( -> [lag OR bugs] AND jankiness )
      - Uncontrollable influence on RNG ( -> complete failure )
      - Lag ( -> lag )
      But you can only fix of mitigate three at once.

      @@chri-k There's actually a pretty easy solution for this. Make it local coop and use something like remote play from steam. Works like a charm with games like Binding of Isaac

      I do not know what remote play is, but if it is what it literally says it is, then that could work, but you would need to proses [ player count ] times more graphical data, and then transfer that, which essentially is a fixed #(2,3,4), and mostly fixed #1, but instead you created a #5: destruction of GPU/ whatever the game uses for rendering

      @@bobbynally3776 If you are referring to the "Random Robes" mods i took a peep and they just generated a different full player with different colors n stuff... 80MB mod :^(
      the game allows to change sprite colors in the ui but not in the actual world sprites so i would have to turn every player into an ui entity and that's just gonna get real jank

    i just got a 200Kb noita update, idk if it adds smth or whatever, but it sure was installed on my pc and doesn't come from mods, so idk, devs may be doing something rn

      Are you subscribed to anything on the steam workshop? Updates to workshop content happen automatically, and they queue up the same way a game update would.

      I remember someone mentioning that it will be near impossible to mod since syncing a shit ton of pixels for all the players at the same time even with lag compensation will take some insane processing power and internet.

      It's still separate. Soler was talking about how syncing just the *capes* of players caused a lot of performance problems. Syncing the entire world would be a nightmare...or it would require crazy black magic that the devs at NollaGames themselves would have to conjure.

      @@yellowsaurus4895 Petri Purho from Nolla Games went into the technical details of Noita in a GDC talk at the end of 2019. Performance was one of noita’s bigger challenges since simulating every pixel is quite the endeavor. They achieved this goal via segmenting the world in chunks and only recalculating/rerendering those that may change, which significantly reduces the amount of work you need to do. If multiplayer were to be supported, not only would at least the host have to be capable of doing this for every player (meaning you have 1/n the performance for n players worst case) but on top of this you have to now synchronize this information over a network which significantly reduces the throughput (the amount of work you can do). Solving this would be an incredible feat.
      I’m not a game developer, so if I mispoke/misrepresented something please correct me.

      ​@@theofficialiole99 I think the tough problem to solve is the nondivergent simulation of chunks that are active for more than one client (i.e. when more than one player is in the same place).
      Given the p2p nature, each client could calculate its own chunks with the first client to activate the chunk remaining the 'authority' for that chunk until that client moves out of the chunks range, at which point authority would be passed on to another client which is in range and closest to that chunk. If no client is in range then the chunk's final state is broadcast and then deactivated as usual. This makes scenarios where players are spread out/off on their own fairly trivial.
      As for the hard part (real-time sync of a chunks state to multiple players interacting with that chunk), I'd guess a lot of optimisation compromises would have to be made to make it playable. My first thought is having all clients calculate physics individually, with the host emitting chunk state 'keyframes' at intervals of something like 500ms-2000ms (depending on the size of the chunk state blob). These keyframes would replace the state for all clients effectively syncing everyone at the given interval. Between/alongside keyframes each client broadcasts selected important physics events real-time such as player movement, kicking, firing/switching wands, throwing potions etc. Other clients can then simulate those events as if they were their own. I imagine each projectile (expensively, given how many projectiles you can create in a short time in this game) would have to have its definition and vector broadcast on creation too since projectiles (at least a lot of the players ones) have a lot of rng in the form of spread, among others.
      How well this kind of thing would work comes down to how deterministic the various frame to frame mechanics are in Noita. If there is a lot of random value use then the keyframe interval will be more noticable. It's obviously wide open to client-side cheating but I don't think that's honestly a concern for 99% of players.
      This is all pure spitballing on my part. Though I'm a software dev I don't work in the games industry and I don't know what the limitations are for Noita modifications, this could all be far beyond its scope. It's interesting to think about though, and it'd be extremely fun to play one-world-instance multiplayer!

    I doubt you’ll see this and if you do even take the suggestion. But I think you should try out keeperRL or Dwarf fortress. I think you’ll enjoy them, tho. Dwarf Fortress is super complicated but fun at the same time.

      @Joe Joestar Its pretty fun to Noita with friends! I know DunkorSlam does group runs with his stream on Saturdays (at like 3am tho). Soler also does Together runs but it's dependent on how many people wanna join. (And my friend has a group in like ~30 minutes so feel free to join as well xD)

    I hope it isn't just PVE. I hope players or the devs can somehow make a noita combat system. Imagine an online gladiator gamemode where players fight in a destructible arena and gain new spells after they win a round.

      It’s because it requires more permission from your PC to run (connecting to your Twitch account, etc.) There are other mods like this as well. These mods can’t be on the Workshop because of this.

      That's one of the settings they have. When a player dies, rather than have them sit out the rest of the run, or have the run end for everyone, the mod has an option to use this compromise solution. With this active, when a player dies it takes a bit of max HP from the other players to revive them. If the players don't have enough max hp when you die, it ends the run.

      No, each player is still in their own world, but you can visually see what wands they are using, etc. It's getting closer. Syncing multiple player worlds online is going to be extremely difficult, though. Even with just 2 players, syncing everything would probably slow each player's game down to single-digit FPS in order to simulate everything, unless some kind of very optimized technique is used to do it. So...not impossible, but not entirely realistic either.
      Local co-op would be a lot easier, however.

      @@FuryForged Adequacy/fun, maybe. It's still not a proper, normal Multiplayer, - fellow players don't interact with host's world, they phase through carts etc.
      It's not something you'd expect when you heard "this mod adds a multiplayer".

    Been watching fury play for a while, and i have no idea why my game is cursed: enemies dying crash the game sometimes, and stains never stay as long as his does.
