    It's the flywheel that's amazing

I believe that had it not been for the factory fire of 1914 Edison would have followed this example for ALL of the future Amberola's. However after the fire Edison had to severely cut costs and while the Amberolas that followed were certainly good machines, they just did not measure up to the Amberola V. As you mentioned they really are like a baby Opera and they sound fantastic! The gear drive combined with the flywheel are still light years ahead of the belt drives that followed.

I can't wait to watch the restoration on this! I have one and have been afraid to mess with it for lack of knowledge, I'm sure that is going to change thanks to you!!!!

Edison got the cabinets from The Brunswick Balke Collender Co., up until 1915 or so, that is when Brunswick got into the phonograph business

I have one out of the Walt Bellm collection. It is all original and plays well. I interested to see what you do to yours. My horn and grill are in the same condition. Also, want to see how you lube the motor and gear train. Thanks!

I have a 1916 victrola and after I play a 78 recently I noticed black record shaving dust on the needle when I change it and it concerns me because thats part of the 78 and of course its very small amounts just I was wondering if you knew whats happening

How often do you change your needles? Have you ever had the reproducer rebuilt? Steel needles should be replaced every time the side of a record is played. If your reproducer has dry gaskets or isn't properly adjusted, it can cause premature wear to the record. You should also only be playing records made prior to WWII as the ones made later are not made of a composition that is resilient enough for the heavy tone arm.

Make sure you watch my video of how to clean your 78 RPM record, and then make sure you always use a new Needle. Hopefully it is just old dirt in the grooves.

I replace the needles per side

@@bonnieshousehold.816 sounds to me like your reproducer may need a rebuild or adjustment then.

Yes I have noticed when I jiggle the reproducer it seems more loose ever so slightly at this may be putting some strain on the reproducer and if so how would I adjust it would I just take it off and put it back on more tighten then how it is because in my own theory the vibrations of the sound loosen it over time ?
