  • Currently I'm partway through building an incredible 8kW eBike, but there's still a lot of work to do so I though I'd spend some time running through the main areas that I still need to work on. And what didn't go so well for my Sabvoton...
    Peak Power - 8600W
    Peak Torque - 135Nm (100ft/lbs)
    Nominal battery voltage - 51.8
    Battery capacity - 2072Wh
    Power density - 156kW/Ton
    Power HP - 10.2
    Weight - 55kg
    Timestamps:
    0:42 - Front end
    2:39 - Rear suspension
3:34 - Rims, hub and tyres
    5:12 - Weight and power
    5:36 - Lighting
    6:20 - Custom FCU
7:27 - Getting serial data off BMS and Sabvoton
    8:43 - Uh oh...
    10:48 - Dashboard
    11:41 - Registering the bike
    13:57 - The end

We're all sticking with your build.
As I've said, heads and shoulder's above anything else out there on TH-cam.
    Very informative.
    You're subscriptions will pick up.
    Cheers.

    Good luck mate.
Don't go the 125 route, go the moped one. There's a lot of misinformation out there but the speed hasn't got to be limited, you just have to state that it has a maximum designed speed of 30mph (if you get caught doing 60, that's your fault). You have a 3kW motor and that's enough, no need to limit it - the 4kW for mopeds is defined as the amount of power the motor is capable of sustaining continuously for 30 minutes, not the peak power (we don't run on SAE standards in the UK).
If you start buying parts with the MSVA in mind, try to get ones with E marks stamped on them, it saves on questions and having the examiner standing there with his tape measure. Also, if you have the MSVA in mind, KISS ("Keep It Simple"....) and then you can add all the goodies after you have the paperwork. Lights, indicators and speedo is all you need (nearly). The less questions and scratching of heads, the better.
No one will test the power or the top-end, all they'll test is the bare essentials to see if it's fit for registration and use on the UK roads 😉

I know about how 4kw is continuous not peak so 8kw won't be an issue. I wonder if the police would check if it's a moped if you were doing over 30 or whether they'd see it has a number plate, tax etc and leave you alone🤔 Cheers for the advice on E marking and 'KISS' 😁👍

I am at a very similar step in my build. You can get the sabvoton 72150 unlocked direct from QS and it allows for up to 150 amp flux weakening and 200 amp peak current for the same price as the normal 72150. Definitely worth doing. I have a ct-22 display and it isn't easy plug and play - make sure you buy it with the sabvoton because it needs to connect to a hall signal output wire on the controller. Hope this helps, cheers.

Yh 72200 looks worth it although I've tried contacting QS and haven't heard back for a week. What's complicated about the CT-22 - aren't there just wires coming out the back and the hall sensor one connects to one of the motor hall sensors?

I just got myself on gumtree, grabbed a second hand custom downhill bike and you get everything you need. Marizocci forks, brakes, good cranks and sprocket, bars, stem etc

If you can get a good deal then go for it, it's a good way of getting a bundle.

i have a 72v 3kw bike ive built 5 months ago never had a problem with the police use it every day in manchester and theres even a guy that i see almost every day doing food deliveries on an 8kw ebike same frame as you, i dont know him but he seems to still be doing deliveries i think the police doesnt care really unless you're doing wheelies through red lights

Yh, I wish I could rely on it being like that near me but I suspect I'd get pulled over. As you say you can probably get away with it by being sensible and not doing wheelies but I think mine looks too obvious as it is. I got away with it on my old bike so know it can be done

Solid plan bro, I am in the process of registering my bike now. I highly recommend it , it will bring you a true piece of mind. I am finishing up the measurements for my battery and bac 8000 upgrade. Working with a seller on E.S.:endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=105671
You should check him out when you have time. I can't wait to see your bike when it's finished. I thought about moving my ct22 over (to my bike) but dialing in the speedometer portion is true pain in the a$$..lol; that I really don't wanna be bothered with at the moment. You have me very interested in your arduino programing project. Thanks for the update bro, I went with street tires and I love them. Keep me updated.💯👍🏽👌

What are the different tires you’ve found? I’ve had a lot of trouble finding 19x3.00 tires

The website I've found is tyres.buycarparts.co.uk/. The have a good range of 18" tyres for me and I look on there for 19" and I think there were quite a few options.

Love what you're doing to the bike probably a good idea because all that work to have the police take it is just crazy imo.

Let me know how you get on with trying to register the bike, I found an email address from one of Andy Kirby's videos and the turn around for a new Vin was just a few days. Now i'm just trying to locate a garage that can stamp the Vin for me.

Ah cool, are you doing the whole MSVA thing too! Have you got a link to that vid, will come in handy later?

Have you taken a look at "Nuclear" controllers" ?

Yes, but big waiting time and too expensive for me at the moment. Maybe one day...:)
