BiPAP has been developed by my group at the Univ. of Innsbruck, Austria in 1987. By no means it was developed for non invasive ventilation, it was ment to be a replacement for PCV in severe ICU patiens on an ET. We were able to demonstrate that with a proper timing and pressure level setting it is able to improve not only oxygenation but also CO2 elimination compared to plain PCV. This was shown in animal studies as well as in patients by our group, as well as by Dr John Downs with his APRV.
COPD patient with heart disease. While in hospital, I experienced failure and blacked out, woke up on BiPap machine. I think the machine saved me. Too much CO2 rather than not enough O2.
After 3 years of trying out a CPAP therapy. I've done three studies now. My Dr - is thinking that I should have a BiPAP machine. It was pretty ODD to get accustomed to during the overnight study. But - If its better..... I"ll give it a good shot. Thanks for good overview of this therapy.
Thanks for this tutorial. Initially I was going to try dental unit but even with insurance it would cost me 1200. I couldn't do that. I tried cpap during sleep study and it felt like I was drowning in air. Bipap is my next hope and glad to understand ramping.
Hello, thank you for the education. I have a question. My dad uses a cpap machine that the air tube has broken at the base of the mask. I have used tape to keep the tube from falling off. Is there are risk with using cpap in this fashion? Thank you I hope you can advise.
I just got my bi pap machine. The cpap I was using the highest setting for my breathing it wasn’t working. Now I have to figure this res med bi pap. Soon I see my pulm doc. It should not hurt when you breath while using the bi pap. Is that correct?
Thank you. I wish every ambulance had this machine. I have had it done to me and it opens up everything and takes the chest pain and panic away. When your not taking in air a nebulizer won't do a thing for you.
sir i am a student of srilanka , sir need to know that every clinical bipap unit should be able to connect oxygen line to it doesnt it sir , but for home care units cant
if the pt is resp acidotic and not ventilating how is it possible to blow off co2 against an epap pressue? also the tubing seems considerably long. does that have any negative effect to evacuating co2 tubing compensation?
Exhalation against EPAP is normal and actually increased due to the airway being more open. The recoil of the chest wall outweighs any EPAP. The difference between EPAP and IPAP (driving pressure or pressure support) dictates how much CO2 will be blown off in most cases. There is a little CO2 rebreathing in the tubing but masks have exhale valves to remove most of it before it enters the tubing.
My dad has been put on bipap, but we re having trouble getting him to wear it. He says he feels like it's suffocating him. Any advice on what we could do to help?
Cpap is a continuous positive pressure which doesn't change. The patient breathes on top of the pressure. It aids oxygenation but does not support ventilation (Co2 removal). Bipap or NIPPV is an inspiratory and expiratory pressure which are different and usually synced the patient's breathing rate. This supports both oxygenation and ventilation. One is not better than the other they are indicated in different conditions.
Best explanation of BIPAP I’ve seen on TH-cam. Nice job!
Chris Campollo I agree

Great job!! I understand you better than I did in nursing school. Thanks for the details.

This was a great tutorial , thank you so much. Thsi is difficult out in hospice land with no RT.
Dear Christopher Cox, the model of BiPAP is, Philips Respironics BiPAP Focus
haha Christopher cocks
Great tutorial. Beautiful troubleshooting tips and details.

Awesome video of course! Great to learn!

He'll just be getting a lower CPAP than prescribed due to any leak. You can easily purchase new tubing and masks online, just search

Thanks for your explaination the use of BiPAP.

When using the Vision should one use a circuit that incorporates a whisper swivel.
How do you administer nebulisers during BiPAP with this machine , thank you .
U cant
@@4funHero you can with a t-valve
Disregard comment above You can use a neb by inserting a T piece into the circuit.
would it be helpful if no beds available during covid19

Does it mean BiPAP can work same as CPAP if both pressures are set same?
Thank you
Great vid
Thanks, this was every informative! future RRT :)
Good luck!! I take my RRT this weekend.
Sharp smart person. Enjoyed it. !! Thanks
looks like the guy from the Pawn Shop show
Actually nasal pillows are still out there and they are not uncomfortable at all.
I want to know which is better bi pep or c pep

@@Flower_slayz I'm going to hospital to do the titre, will answer once I experience

I get it now!!! Thank you so much!
Thank you for the video! So helpful!
It's the Respironics BiPAP Focus.
Thanks.some time it's not enough .Good luck👏👏👏
Which particular model BIPAP machine is demonstrated here?
Great explanation
super helpful! thanks
Good God!! He said he uses 18cm of water pressure!! Sheeeesh. I’m glad mine is not that high at all.
Very good lecture
Can i asck Question
nice, thank you!
Good
