real talk, the absolute worst thing to do in a game about choices is to actively take away choices as you present them. the second worst thing is for those choices to ultimately not matter whatsoever in the end. GVH did both of them.
I think the taking away choices thing is supposed to reflect how people have urges to say hurtful things, and when they really think about doing it, they realise perhaps it's not a good idea to say it, like that's how I see it. I do think it should've still let the player choose those options all while having a different variation of that mechanic tho

Nah, that wasn't an issue until Mass Effect made your choices count for something. A lot of Visual Novel games had different choices that took you to the same ending.

When you pick the nicer dialogue options he does develop as a character, and it makes sense when he wouldn’t develop as those actions are part of the 2 bad endings. There is some good work put into the game but a lot of it just feels… lazy. Sure it ain’t bad for a free game but that doesn’t mean we ain’t allowed to critique it.

Honestly I enjoyed the writing AND ending. I was afraid they weren't going to actually end up killing everybody, and the meteor would be a hoax, but they did it. They made a melancholic story with a bittersweet end that feels like a gut punch if you're invested enough. Literally everybody cheers and smiles while they know they're about to be killed by a meteor. It's actually sad. With that said, I expected an after-credits scene of normal human versions of the cast living their lives in the present, unaware of what happened in the past to the identical versions of themselves. Like in a way that brings everything full circle. But I can see why they didnt do that. Still, the writing was good and the presentation was solid.
Honestly, that fits. Imagine their human reincarnations seeing their previous incarnations fossils in a museum and a human Fang say’s; “Have I seen this before?” before brushing it off as a joke.

Alone (Worst Ending): Fang dies alone after failing to learn to value the life they've lived with their friends. 2.) Betrayed (Bad Ending): Fang's rich friend (decided to add a rich friend) tells them that their family is leaving for a place called "The Sanctuary"; a government bunker project where the "privileged few and genetically strong" survive, to survive and tells Fang off after their mistreatment towards them (Fang has the option to treat the rich friend with respect or be rude to them due to their higher status, however, the rich friend is extremely nice) and leaves Fang to die. 3.) Sanctuary aka Fallout (Good Ending): Fang's rich friend tells them that their family is leaving for "The Sanctuary" to survive and invites Fang to come with them after treating them well. This ending has 2 options. The 1st one is where Fang accepts the offer and says goodbye to everyone with or without telling them the truth. The 2nd is where you decline it and decide to give the chance of survival to someone else (such as Naser or Fang's friends). Depending on Fang's interaction with every one of them, they can learn that some still have plans for the future (Naser, Naomi, and Sage) while others have accepted their fate (Reed, Trish, Rosa, and Stella). Your choice in taking the chance for survival or giving one of these characters a chance to survive would heavily affect their relationship with you, whether it's good or bad. 4.) Rage Rex aka Mad Max (True Ending): Fang decides to spend her last moments with her friends just as the asteroid hits. However, the government decided to launch a nuke at the Asteroid, which scattered it to pieces. This, however, made the problem worse as the scattered pieces of the asteroid struck many places, including Caldera Boy. Fang and their friends take cover as a piece of the asteroid hits Caldera Bay. A 10-year time skip occurs showing the effects of the meteor, which left Pangea and its cities in a deserted wasteland. An apocalyptic-styled van approaches a stream of water with blades of grass emerging from the side. A mysterious hooded figure unmasks themselves revealing an adult Fang with their friends alongside them. They look ahead and wonder where the future will take them. Overall, these endings would have honestly made the game better. Also, the ending we got for the game would be the Neutral Ending. So far, whaddya' think?

I've finished the game now, it starts very well, the characters are very good but for a game of choices you have only one ending waf!? And I was disappointed that there is only one romance when I thought I could have chosen other characters... Too bad because the story itself is very beautiful and the melancholy related to the meteorite impressed me, Voolcano High will certainly remain with me.
yeah it's def disappointing on that aspect, and there's a lot of what could of beens for all the development that came out of it, esp the rewrites and such. Honestly if only the "criticism" or hate from said people rather helped development of it than just rag on it for reasons. I just wonder if they just wanted the game done and functioning as is and release it because they were tired of working on this for so long they had to gut out features, which is reasonable.
I liked it how it ended, the melancholy about the end times, in my ending (the one of these two options with or without Naomi) i even leave the relationship aside, "thinking about how to live when the inevitable death comes."
One thing that frustrates me about stories like this, is when they create a distinct, fantastical world, but don't really do anything with it; I'm not expecting some real in depth forms of world building (that's obviously not the focus), but I feel there is potential here for an interesting world. But you could change all the characters to humans, and it would change almost nothing about the setting or story aside from appearances. I almost wonder if this story would've worked better as a series, then as a game.
Honestly, I don't know why people hate on this game. "It has one ending" yeah it dies. An asteroid is going to hit the planet killing everyone. Depending on your actions, there is different dialogue during the ending. So technically there are multiple endings but they all have one ultimatum. The animations are stiff and buggy, but theres worse. And to the people who are saying "snoot game is better" ones basically a fanfiction story that came out before GVH. Ive played both games and i enjoy both very much. Some of you guys just find the worst reasons to complain about anything.
GVH on its own is an interesting game comparison aside to snoot game, though i really liked the music. To those who enjoyed it I'm happy u did also holy shit i really do not like rosa and stella's designs in this game, they're so ugly to me lol
I honestly think that the problem isn't that at the end the meteor will always fall, the problem is that it dosen't matter what you chose, you will reach the same conclusion of the characters. There should be different endings showing the consecuences of Fang's actions. If Fang decided to stick to they dreams and insist with the band theme, the end could've been them playing a last concert before the meteor arrives, but alone and without her friends to be there for them. If they decided to chose their friends over than the band, the end could've been then waiting together their end, but Fang feeling a bit empty for not reaching their dreams before dying. Even they could've been an ending here they decide to stay with Naser and their parents if you manage to repair their relationships or even escape with Naomi to die with her. So its not the unchangeable fact that they all gonna die anyway, its the fact that ther could be a lot of possibilites depending on your choices, but there aren't, because it doesn't matter what you do or what you say, everyone will forgive you and the end will be the same.
The game can’t be serious. Before even half an hour has passed, it makes you play the same song, with the same animation, and the same QTE tempo beats. This is *_padding._* You don’t do this half an hour in, and certainly not in a situation like this. This song, if it’s a main theme of the game, _should_ be repeated, but it should be at meaningful moments, not to just simply fill space.
I honestly wish the hate or ill will from people didn't influence whatever they had to do to make this game. I mean the more I just think about it even if sure there's rather some boring aspects outta it, the more I just feel sorry for the devs for some reason? Like at the end of the day, the internet will be ruthless regardless, and I'm glad to have a thought of my own to say with this. On the bright side, I love the technicalities that went into this and how they make use of animations for something of a visual novel if this is what it is I suppose? Helps me get into it a bit and def impressive effort to it. I so would make a steal for it if I were to make one myself.
I realy cant understand everyone hating this game into the ground. I realy enjoyed it, even if it took around 3 Years to be here... Love the Characters, the story and of course the completely animated Scenes. I awaited a visual novel game with a few interaction parts, aaand i got it. ^^ And to be honest, the rhythm parts were actually better then i thought. Also loved how the textboxes changed to fit in the situation. The only thing i dont realy like is the open ending, but thats just my opinion. All in all a solid 8,5/10 from me! 😊 Would love to see KO_OP creating more games the future. ❤
I apologize in advance for my lousy English, I had to use Google translate. Honestly, people's hatred originated from various issues related to the writer where, well, there was a lot of emphasis on the segs and many things that it is better not to mention. But mainly the hate could be due to a certain parody game that left the quality bar very high despite being a visual novel. In a few words you just have to play Snoot Game that is free on Steam to know why there is so much dislike for GVH, which curiously did not originate from TH-camrs.
The game is pretty bad, there are lots of visual bugs, the voice acting and some animations are kinda weird, and the dialogue is sometimes weird, what makes this game really bad is that is a solid 5/10, is neither good or bad enought to be interesting, this game is the text defenition of bland
My main gripes with GVH is apart from the conventional high school setting, I feel the cutscenes drag laboriously, the rhythm action parts are overloaded with prompts, and I don't like the animation style. However, I do appreciate its gentle and wholesome presentation, the colorful skin and distinct dress sense of each dino is lovely to see. It could've done with less cellphone usage, but I understand that's a common thing in high school-all too willing to forego reality for a false version of it.
It just looks awful in terms of character design, which would be a little more tolerable if it wasn't a visual novel which live and die off the strength of their visuals and writing, things that this just doesn't execute well. Doesn't help that the voice acting is badly directed, this should have been left in the oven a little longer honestly I will say that the backgrounds are absolutely gorgeous, you can tell the person who worked on it was different than whoever drew the characters
This is a good story, and it was worth the wait. It touched me in a way I didn't expect. Fang for real is someone i sympathize with. This all sort of feels so real. With how people are, and how they'd react in a time like this in the state of their lives they were in. Life really can be cruel sometimes, but at least we have the chance to go through it together. To make memories.

(Warning this is a long ass review) I heard about the game about a week ago. For the past few days I have been all over the Internet looking at the reviews of the game. I've seen the biases. Those who only hate the game for it's queer representation and those who like it simply because of said representation. As I am unable to actually buy the game for reasons so I have decided to just watch the whole 6-ish hour long playthrough. That being said here is a completely 100% unbiased review from a gen z kid half way thru their last year of high school. It's mid. At best the entire game is just mid. And here's why: Character design: honestly nothing good but it's not terrible. For a game with anthro dinos I was expecting for there to be perhaps something that reflects how each character's species reflects their personality, like idunno maybe a trex for a sort of loud or bossy character. Honestly tho it's not that big of a deal, but it would've been nice to have. Most characters just look pretty bland.Faces also look a little off sometimes. Voice Acting: Kinda mid. For some characters it was pretty good. I liked Trish's va, I think she did a good job. Everyone else was ok. Except Fang's va was pretty subpar considering they are the main character. Also noticed subtitles and lines from characters sometimes don't match. Audio occasionally cuts off. Animation: The style itself I think is ok. A little stiff sometimes with the actual animation and lip syncing can be a pretty off sometimes. Backgrounds look pretty good tho but sometimes they take a second to load in. Music: I'm more of a metal and grunge fan but I can appreciate the music. There's good amount of talent and effort that went into it and I think that needs to be acknowledged. Gameplay: (ok ima be quick with this one cause this I'm about to give a huge rant about story in a bit) can't say much because I haven't played the actual game but I hear rhythm segments are pretty much meaningless as is the affinity system and I noticed game seems to not allow certain dialogue choices. STORY: (ok I'll divide this into long and short version each of which with conclusions) (Simple version) Huge letdown. Y'know for a game where everyone knows they are going to die in the end, it really does not feel like they are all going to die in the end. There is barely any existential crisis and not a lot of conflict amongst the group itself. No friendships being put to the test, not really any major arguments, and supporting characters, despite being confirmed to have families, dont really do anything about it. There is only one ending and you're choices don't matter. Overall characters feel flat and story is annoyingly slow paced where not much happens. 5/10, again mid at best. You've maybe heard this before but really, just play Night in the Woods, that game I did play, its really cool. Ok, Buckle up. Extended cut that is both me saying and giving actual criticism and also just me saying what I would've done. I've already given you my review so if you want to read more then that's cool but you don't have to: This game was announced in June 2020 for a release in 2021 for ps4 and ps5, however due to certain things happening behind the scenes the game was delayed until 2023. Between this time Snoot Game, a parody of this game, came out. Personally I recommend SN over GVH. But enough of that, this is supposed to be about the story. I feel this game is supposed to be more of a slice of life rather than a pre-apocolyptic drama. But considering the giant ball of death looming overhead, I doubt slice of life can be used to accurately and realistically describe the state of the world. As the story goes on, the world seems to become increasingly aware that the asteroid is about to kill everyone, but nothing happens in response to this. Characters kind of just gloss over it until the very end. I understand that the game is likely using the asteroid as a metaphor for growing up. I get that. The feeling that the world is ending soon and the anxiety of not knowing what happens after high school is something I know that me and a lot of my friends feel. But comparing the end of highschool to a meteor coming in and killing me and everyone I love doesn't help. Like at all. Honestly I think they should have just skipped the entire meteor bit. At least then the ending would have felt better. And speaking of THE ending, there is only 1. In life our choices have an Impact on the world and the people around us. What we do in life is a cause and effect. The same is true at the end of the world. Through of course you can't escape death, but you can choose where you are in your final moments, how you changed people, and how you face it. As previously stated the game has a affinity system but as far as I can tell it's useless. Really tho think of how cool it could have been to have like several endings or big changes in dialogue depending on who are close to. What if Fang did decide to hang out on the roof with Reed? Or if she decided to act more offensively towards Nasser about their future. Or if Fang messed up one of the band's songs. These are things that are supposed to happen with these kinds of visual novels. Again maybe the devs should have just got rid of the meteor plot point as it does little for the main story and would not only make things less complicated, but it would have given more of a focus on the band aspect and how each character's dreams and aspirations and beleifs effect each other. Nothing out of ordinary really, just an engaging story with realistic aspects. However... If they wanted to keep the meteor bit and make their story more interesting then think of all the cool things they could've done. I'll throw out a few examples: - Further dive into nihilism and the beleifs that life is meaningless. - characters feeling cheated that their life will be cut short - Some characters wondering if there is even any point to life at this point. - Maybe they could have made Nasser more old fashioned and make him less accepting of Fang, but now that they are about to die he wants so much just to be on good terms with her. Maybe include a storyline where he's willing to try to talk to Fang and Fang could either help him to understand her or she could just basically shoot him down. There could have been an ending where Fang essentially screws it up with everyone and at the end she kind of just sits alone in her room in her final hours just waiting to die. Then Nasser could have came in and maybe told Fang something about how he knows they never really saw eye to eye on her goals or sexuality but that in these final moments he knows it doesn't matter now and that he loves her. Then he could say that if they would have acted differently then maybe they both would have had a happier ending. These last lines would not only give more depth to Nasser's character, but encourage players to play again and get a better ending because again, there would be several endings. Hell, there could have been a crazy hard to get ending where they all somehow survive the meteor. Well Im tired writing and I got homework to do. I've noticed that this has gone from being an actual criticism to more of me complaining about the devs not seeing the huge missed opportunities to make an awesome game. If you really read this whole thing then props to you I guess. Overall pretty sucky game. Fukit, 3/10 because im mad the devs missed such a great opportunity.

Developement started in 2018, so it was actually almost five years. And to be fair, they rewrote the entire thing very late in developement after firing the lead writer over showing a cropped picture of Harry Potter porn in an article, which is hilarious because she showed it just to call it "gross" and pander to the people who got her fired.

I have never seen a high school type game that wasn't some wattpad ass false reality. Like seriously this game is real, and resonates with me since I happen to he a high school senior and have a sense that I'm kind of doomed, especially now.
For me it’s touching, moving & inspire because in the end if the world my end as long we have our friends, family & love one watching or here we can make a very good memories.
Half-baked characters, half-baked animations, God forbid we talk about the most thrilling part of the game which somehow the boring rhythm sections. Shoot Game just did it better.

The comments acting like this was supposed to be some tell-tale game like the walking dead or something is wild. You can clearly see, even by the "choices" that's not about that. You can go "why is this even a game" but it's missing the point. They wanted to tell a specific story and they made a game out of that story. The glitching texts, the dialogues switching up to say the same thing, those are just Fang's own head, like real people, keeping her from opening up. Some games are more of an experience than anything else.

Considering the hundreds or thousands of small time indy games that never get a mention and are actually pretty good but just fall off the face of the Earth into obscurity, the only thing this game had going for it was LGBT representation.
I mean, everyone's giving it shit, but I'm at 3:35:15 , and I quite enjoy it, kinda like a long movie, a bunch of cool charecters with interesting relationships, and despite there being so damn many charecters, none of them feel samey, I quite like it! Plus the world setting is quite a unique take, the ever present threat of the meteor, while the worlds in a panic, but everyone is just... doing their best to live life as best they can, despite being worried sleepless that the world may litterally be about to end, it's a nice concept, and gives a weird, but much welcome tense feeling to the whole story. Nothing ever quite without tension, everyone has a shared fear, but even with that, the whole story isn't FOCUSED on it. The meteor is a constant threat, but it's only brought up enough to make it clear this is on everyone's mind a bit.
A bit curious, does the music change if you choose different names to play? (Like when they were choosing the robot song and the others, I wanted to hear the beep boop one lol)

I wish they never changed the writing. Would love to see what a goodbye volcano high would’ve looked like with their original artistic vision. This vision just feels rushed. Would love to see the developers make a new game that isn’t tainted by a fan project that literally detransitions the non-binary rep and got more popular with their rendition of the characters. got faith in the studio for that.

Yeah this game really does seem wrong at times. I really don't get Sage's transition and Fang being pretentious with pronouns saying "Fuck normal! We don't owe them being normal!" So many things wrong with this game.
i'm gonna be so honest, all the people being nasty about this game are genuinely baffling to me. its a small, low budget game with very down to earth (ha) stakes. its well made and you can see that there is a lot of love that went into this. the reviews dont lie either, its genuinely a solid game. for what amounts to an interactive vn, i think it was really good! do i hate fang's end of the world bangs? sure. but i think that, overall, this is a very good game and the ending was worth the time it took to build up to.
A lot of people hate this game, but honestly I just feel sorry for KO-OP. Even if it is just a digital mess that's not even worth 30 dollars (the two characters at 2:14:10 are pretty much just cardboard cutouts that don't even move or blink), perhaps it could've been so much more. Maybe it would've been if it weren't for the rocky game development with COVID and the story rewrites and all that. Well, we would never have gotten Snoot Game if it wasn't for GVH, so there's that I guess. Still don't understand why people can't at least have some respect for that reason though. Btw I still can't believe they scrapped Leo from this game. I was never really much into scalies, but I absolutely _adore_ his design, weird wrists and overly long tail aside.

For some reason it has audio issues, the animation doesn’t sync right occasionally, one time it had a weird moment where it flicker like my screen turned black and then right back up. And I also found out that in the rhythm games there’s almost no consequences for messing up. But the biggest thing I didn’t like is how that it feels like none of my choice matter since this game has only one ending
5 years in development hell to make a 6-hour long visual novel with only one ending. A bunch of people from 4chan made a visual novel with a better story than they did in a shorter amount of time. It's completely embarrassing for KO_OP.

I loved this game, like genuinely enjoyed this game. It makes me livid that there can be no fandom for this game, that it's drowned out in snoot game b/s. This story about how , how adolescence ends after high school, how difficult it can be to imagine life as an adult, ready to chase your ambitions and people you expected to be in your whole life may just up and leave for their own dreams and goals. It's good. And I can never talk about this with anyone because people just want to call it shitty, say some 4chan dating game was better and shut out any other opinion.
MEH. Goodbye Volcano High including voice acting, animation, and a new story. Not quite on the heels of Snoot Game, it felt more natural to engage with the characters and more entertaining. It's funny that a game created for a few weeks by a random steamer was better than the real game.
I honestly really enjoyed this game, and will probably play it again sooner or later. I get it has problems and all that, but I look at the game that I feel tells the story pretty well, from my eyes anyways. I’ve never played Snoot Game, probably won’t, but I enjoyed this one, and the soundtrack is great

I'm going to be 100% honest, I really loved this game. It has its problems, it's not really a game, it's moreso an interactive movie with some branching paths, like it's as much of a game as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on SEGA CD, but the story, characters, themes, art & the music are all so good in my opinion. Easily my favourite aspects are the characters themselves, simply because I found them all to be lovable in their own ways, as well as the music being so well made and lovely to listen to. It's just a shame that the actual music segments can literally be bypassed and the game treats you like you've done amazing either way, plus some of the performance issues on PS5 being pretty unacceptable, but overall, I really enjoyed my time with GVH.
Why buy this game for 30$???? The parody which is arguably better is literally for free!!! This game is a waste of money better give that money to game like terraria, dead cells, hollow knight and other inde where you get 1000 of hours

Yeah, SG is way better. Just go and see the comments of any SG video, everyone praise the writting and characters, there are people who had said that it helped to heal wounds from the past. GVH just doesnt resonate with the audience, and that is a big problem if your game is a visual novel
Sg is a really good game, it isn't necessarily because of the 4chan influence that people think is great, in spanish speaking countries the game became popular because a famous influencer played it and liked it
Painfully slow, boring, mundane, dull, etc... The writing is horrible, the characters are all ENTIRELY blank slates with no personality. Voice acting was pretty damn bad. The only thing going for it were the songs were decent and the animation was nice at times. Huge drags were Fang being just a total loser the entire time. She's a horribly written character and never had to deal with any of her own issues. I'm upset I wasted time even watching this. At least I skipped the D&D garbage.

I think the taking away choices thing is supposed to reflect how people have urges to say hurtful things, and when they really think about doing it, they realise perhaps it's not a good idea to say it, like that's how I see it. I do think it should've still let the player choose those options all while having a different variation of that mechanic tho

Nah, that wasn't an issue until Mass Effect made your choices count for something. A lot of Visual Novel games had different choices that took you to the same ending.

When you pick the nicer dialogue options he does develop as a character, and it makes sense when he wouldn’t develop as those actions are part of the 2 bad endings. There is some good work put into the game but a lot of it just feels… lazy. Sure it ain’t bad for a free game but that doesn’t mean we ain’t allowed to critique it.

Honestly I enjoyed the writing AND ending. I was afraid they weren't going to actually end up killing everybody, and the meteor would be a hoax, but they did it. They made a melancholic story with a bittersweet end that feels like a gut punch if you're invested enough. Literally everybody cheers and smiles while they know they're about to be killed by a meteor. It's actually sad.
With that said, I expected an after-credits scene of normal human versions of the cast living their lives in the present, unaware of what happened in the past to the identical versions of themselves. Like in a way that brings everything full circle. But I can see why they didnt do that.
Still, the writing was good and the presentation was solid.

1.) Alone (Worst Ending): Fang dies alone after failing to learn to value the life they've lived with their friends.
2.) Betrayed (Bad Ending): Fang's rich friend (decided to add a rich friend) tells them that their family is leaving for a place called "The Sanctuary"; a government bunker project where the "privileged few and genetically strong" survive, to survive and tells Fang off after their mistreatment towards them (Fang has the option to treat the rich friend with respect or be rude to them due to their higher status, however, the rich friend is extremely nice) and leaves Fang to die.
3.) Sanctuary aka Fallout (Good Ending): Fang's rich friend tells them that their family is leaving for "The Sanctuary" to survive and invites Fang to come with them after treating them well. This ending has 2 options. The 1st one is where Fang accepts the offer and says goodbye to everyone with or without telling them the truth. The 2nd is where you decline it and decide to give the chance of survival to someone else (such as Naser or Fang's friends). Depending on Fang's interaction with every one of them, they can learn that some still have plans for the future (Naser, Naomi, and Sage) while others have accepted their fate (Reed, Trish, Rosa, and Stella). Your choice in taking the chance for survival or giving one of these characters a chance to survive would heavily affect their relationship with you, whether it's good or bad.
4.) Rage Rex aka Mad Max (True Ending): Fang decides to spend her last moments with her friends just as the asteroid hits. However, the government decided to launch a nuke at the Asteroid, which scattered it to pieces. This, however, made the problem worse as the scattered pieces of the asteroid struck many places, including Caldera Boy. Fang and their friends take cover as a piece of the asteroid hits Caldera Bay. A 10-year time skip occurs showing the effects of the meteor, which left Pangea and its cities in a deserted wasteland. An apocalyptic-styled van approaches a stream of water with blades of grass emerging from the side. A mysterious hooded figure unmasks themselves revealing an adult Fang with their friends alongside them. They look ahead and wonder where the future will take them.
Overall, these endings would have honestly made the game better. Also, the ending we got for the game would be the Neutral Ending.

I've finished the game now, it starts very well, the characters are very good but for a game of choices you have only one ending waf!? And I was disappointed that there is only one romance when I thought I could have chosen other characters... Too bad because the story itself is very beautiful and the melancholy related to the meteorite impressed me, Voolcano High will certainly remain with me.
yeah it's def disappointing on that aspect, and there's a lot of what could of beens for all the development that came out of it, esp the rewrites and such. Honestly if only the "criticism" or hate from said people rather helped development of it than just rag on it for reasons. One thing that frustrates me about stories like this, is when they create a distinct, fantastical world, but don't really do anything with it; I'm not expecting some real in depth forms of world building (that's obviously not the focus), but I feel there is potential here for an interesting world. But you could change all the characters to humans, and it would change almost nothing about the setting or story aside from appearances. I almost wonder if this story would've worked better as a series, then as a game.
Honestly, I don't know why people hate on this game. "It has one ending" yeah it dies. An asteroid is going to hit the planet killing everyone. Depending on your actions, there is different dialogue during the ending. So technically there are multiple endings but they all have one ultimatum. The animations are stiff and buggy, but theres worse. And to the people who are saying "snoot game is better" ones basically a fanfiction story that came out before GVH. Ive played both games and i enjoy both very much. Some of you guys just find the worst reasons to complain about anything.

I honestly think that the problem isn't that at the end the meteor will always fall, the problem is that it dosen't matter what you chose, you will reach the same conclusion of the characters. There should be different endings showing the consecuences of Fang's actions. If Fang decided to stick to they dreams and insist with the band theme, the end could've been them playing a last concert before the meteor arrives, but alone and without her friends to be there for them. If they decided to chose their friends over than the band, the end could've been then waiting together their end, but Fang feeling a bit empty for not reaching their dreams before dying. Even they could've been an ending here they decide to stay with Naser and their parents if you manage to repair their relationships or even escape with Naomi to die with her. So its not the unchangeable fact that they all gonna die anyway, its the fact that ther could be a lot of possibilites depending on your choices, but there aren't, because it doesn't matter what you do or what you say, everyone will forgive you and the end will be the same.

The game can’t be serious. Before even half an hour has passed, it makes you play the same song, with the same animation, and the same QTE tempo beats. This is *_padding._* You don’t do this half an hour in, and certainly not in a situation like this. This song, if it’s a main theme of the game, _should_ be repeated, but it should be at meaningful moments, not to just simply fill space.

I apologize in advance for my lousy English, I had to use Google translate. Honestly, people's hatred originated from various issues related to the writer where, well, there was a lot of emphasis on the segs and many things that it is better not to mention. But mainly the hate could be due to a certain parody game that left the quality bar very high despite being a visual novel. In a few words you just have to play Snoot Game that is free on Steam to know why there is so much dislike for GVH, which curiously did not originate from TH-camrs.

I've been melancholy for days
The game is pretty bad, there are lots of visual bugs, the voice acting and some animations are kinda weird, and the dialogue is sometimes weird, what makes this game really bad is that is a solid 5/10, is neither good or bad enought to be interesting, this game is the text defenition of bland
My main gripes with GVH is apart from the conventional high school setting, I feel the cutscenes drag laboriously, the rhythm action parts are overloaded with prompts, and I don't like the animation style. However, I do appreciate its gentle and wholesome presentation, the colorful skin and distinct dress sense of each dino is lovely to see. It could've done with less cellphone usage, but I understand that's a common thing in high school-all too willing to forego reality for a false version of it.
It just looks awful in terms of character design, which would be a little more tolerable if it wasn't a visual novel which live and die off the strength of their visuals and writing, things that this just doesn't execute well. Doesn't help that the voice acting is badly directed, this should have been left in the oven a little longer honestly
I will say that the backgrounds are absolutely gorgeous, you can tell the person who worked on it was different than whoever drew the characters

This is a good story, and it was worth the wait. It touched me in a way I didn't expect. Fang for real is someone i sympathize with. This all sort of feels so real. With how people are, and how they'd react in a time like this in the state of their lives they were in. Life really can be cruel sometimes, but at least we have the chance to go through it together. To make memories.

I heard about the game about a week ago. For the past few days I have been all over the Internet looking at the reviews of the game. I've seen the biases. Those who only hate the game for it's queer representation and those who like it simply because of said representation. As I am unable to actually buy the game for reasons so I have decided to just watch the whole 6-ish hour long playthrough. That being said here is a completely 100% unbiased review from a gen z kid half way thru their last year of high school.
It's mid. At best the entire game is just mid. And here's why:
Character design: honestly nothing good but it's not terrible. For a game with anthro dinos I was expecting for there to be perhaps something that reflects how each character's species reflects their personality, like idunno maybe a trex for a sort of loud or bossy character. Honestly tho it's not that big of a deal, but it would've been nice to have. Most characters just look pretty bland.Faces also look a little off sometimes.
Voice Acting: Kinda mid. For some characters it was pretty good. I liked Trish's va, I think she did a good job. Everyone else was ok. Except Fang's va was pretty subpar considering they are the main character. Also noticed subtitles and lines from characters sometimes don't match. Audio occasionally cuts off.
Animation: The style itself I think is ok. A little stiff sometimes with the actual animation and lip syncing can be a pretty off sometimes. Backgrounds look pretty good tho but sometimes they take a second to load in.
Music: I'm more of a metal and grunge fan but I can appreciate the music. There's good amount of talent and effort that went into it and I think that needs to be acknowledged.
Gameplay: (ok ima be quick with this one cause this I'm about to give a huge rant about story in a bit) can't say much because I haven't played the actual game but I hear rhythm segments are pretty much meaningless as is the affinity system and I noticed game seems to not allow certain dialogue choices.
STORY: (ok I'll divide this into long and short version each of which with conclusions)
(Simple version) Huge letdown. Y'know for a game where everyone knows they are going to die in the end, it really does not feel like they are all going to die in the end. There is barely any existential crisis and not a lot of conflict amongst the group itself. No friendships being put to the test, not really any major arguments, and supporting characters, despite being confirmed to have families, dont really do anything about it. There is only one ending and you're choices don't matter. Overall characters feel flat and story is annoyingly slow paced where not much happens. 5/10, again mid at best. You've maybe heard this before but really, just play Night in the Woods, that game I did play, its really cool.
Ok, Buckle up. Extended cut that is both me saying and giving actual criticism and also just me saying what I would've done. I've already given you my review so if you want to read more then that's cool but you don't have to:
This game was announced in June 2020 for a release in 2021 for ps4 and ps5, however due to certain things happening behind the scenes the game was delayed until 2023. Between this time Snoot Game, a parody of this game, came out. Personally I recommend SN over GVH. But enough of that, this is supposed to be about the story. I feel this game is supposed to be more of a slice of life rather than a pre-apocolyptic drama. But considering the giant ball of death looming overhead, I doubt slice of life can be used to accurately and realistically describe the state of the world. As the story goes on, the world seems to become increasingly aware that the asteroid is about to kill everyone, but nothing happens in response to this. Characters kind of just gloss over it until the very end. I understand that the game is likely using the asteroid as a metaphor for growing up. I get that. The feeling that the world is ending soon and the anxiety of not knowing what happens after high school is something I know that me and a lot of my friends feel. But comparing the end of highschool to a meteor coming in and killing me and everyone I love doesn't help. Like at all. Honestly I think they should have just skipped the entire meteor bit. At least then the ending would have felt better. And speaking of THE ending, there is only 1.
In life our choices have an Impact on the world and the people around us. What we do in life is a cause and effect. The same is true at the end of the world. Through of course you can't escape death, but you can choose where you are in your final moments, how you changed people, and how you face it. As previously stated the game has a affinity system but as far as I can tell it's useless. Really tho think of how cool it could have been to have like several endings or big changes in dialogue depending on who are close to. What if Fang did decide to hang out on the roof with Reed? Or if she decided to act more offensively towards Nasser about their future. Or if Fang messed up one of the band's songs. These are things that are supposed to happen with these kinds of visual novels. Again maybe the devs should have just got rid of the meteor plot point as it does little for the main story and would not only make things less complicated, but it would have given more of a focus on the band aspect and how each character's dreams and aspirations and beleifs effect each other. Nothing out of ordinary really, just an engaging story with realistic aspects.
However... If they wanted to keep the meteor bit and make their story more interesting then think of all the cool things they could've done. I'll throw out a few examples:
- Further dive into nihilism and the beleifs that life is meaningless.
- characters feeling cheated that their life will be cut short
- Some characters wondering if there is even any point to life at this point.
- Maybe they could have made Nasser more old fashioned and make him less accepting of Fang, but now that they are about to die he wants so much just to be on good terms with her. Maybe include a storyline where he's willing to try to talk to Fang and Fang could either help him to understand her or she could just basically shoot him down. There could have been an ending where Fang essentially screws it up with everyone and at the end she kind of just sits alone in her room in her final hours just waiting to die. Then Nasser could have came in and maybe told Fang something about how he knows they never really saw eye to eye on her goals or sexuality but that in these final moments he knows it doesn't matter now and that he loves her. Then he could say that if they would have acted differently then maybe they both would have had a happier ending. These last lines would not only give more depth to Nasser's character, but encourage players to play again and get a better ending because again, there would be several endings. Hell, there could have been a crazy hard to get ending where they all somehow survive the meteor.
Well Im tired writing and I got homework to do. I've noticed that this has gone from being an actual criticism to more of me complaining about the devs not seeing the huge missed opportunities to make an awesome game. If you really read this whole thing then props to you I guess. Overall pretty sucky game. Fukit, 3/10 because im mad the devs missed such a great opportunity.

I realty loved this game even with all is problems.
The comments acting like this was supposed to be some tell-tale game like the walking dead or something is wild. You can clearly see, even by the "choices" that's not about that. You can go "why is this even a game" but it's missing the point. They wanted to tell a specific story and they made a game out of that story. The glitching texts, the dialogues switching up to say the same thing, those are just Fang's own head, like real people, keeping her from opening up. Some games are more of an experience than anything else.

I mean, everyone's giving it shit, but I'm at 3:35:15 , and I quite enjoy it, kinda like a long movie, a bunch of cool charecters with interesting relationships, and despite there being so damn many charecters, none of them feel samey, I quite like it! Plus the world setting is quite a unique take, the ever present threat of the meteor, while the worlds in a panic, but everyone is just... doing their best to live life as best they can, despite being worried sleepless that the world may litterally be about to end, it's a nice concept, and gives a weird, but much welcome tense feeling to the whole story.
Nothing ever quite without tension, everyone has a shared fear, but even with that, the whole story isn't FOCUSED on it. The meteor is a constant threat, but it's only brought up enough to make it clear this is on everyone's mind a bit.

Would love to see the developers make a new game that isn’t tainted by a fan project that literally detransitions the non-binary rep and got more popular with their rendition of the characters. got faith in the studio for that.

The game was made to de-transition Fang. That will always be its #1 purpose and it’s #1 goal and frankly. If the detransition part didn’t exist the story would stay the exact same. It did not need to exist.
And I don’t even like goodbye volcano high. I think both games are not for me . Goodbye volcano high at least however is not shrouded in so much deep water that I constantly see Snoot game fans ignore by acting like it doesn’t exist.
If you want to debate go at it. But essentially saying “who cares”, “it doesn’t matter” or “it’s simply better” does not defend snoot games utter motive.

i'm gonna be so honest, all the people being nasty about this game are genuinely baffling to me. its a small, low budget game with very down to earth (ha) stakes. its well made and you can see that there is a lot of love that went into this. the reviews dont lie either, its genuinely a solid game. for what amounts to an interactive vn, i think it was really good! do i hate fang's end of the world bangs? sure. but i think that, overall, this is a very good game and the ending was worth the time it took to build up to.
A lot of people hate this game, but honestly I just feel sorry for KO-OP. Even if it is just a digital mess that's not even worth 30 dollars (the two characters at 2:14:10 are pretty much just cardboard cutouts that don't even move or blink), perhaps it could've been so much more. Maybe it would've been if it weren't for the rocky game development with COVID and the story rewrites and all that. Well, we would never have gotten Snoot Game if it wasn't for GVH, so there's that I guess. Still don't understand why people can't at least have some respect for that reason though.
Btw I still can't believe they scrapped Leo from this game. I was never really much into scalies, but I absolutely _adore_ his design, weird wrists and overly long tail aside.

For some reason it has audio issues, the animation doesn’t sync right occasionally, one time it had a weird moment where it flicker like my screen turned black and then right back up. And I also found out that in the rhythm games there’s almost no consequences for messing up. But the biggest thing I didn’t like is how that it feels like none of my choice matter since this game has only one ending
5 years in development hell to make a 6-hour long visual novel with only one ending. A bunch of people from 4chan made a visual novel with a better story than they did in a shorter amount of time. It's completely embarrassing for KO_OP.

I loved this game, like genuinely enjoyed this game. It makes me livid that there can be no fandom for this game, that it's drowned out in snoot game b/s. This story about how , how adolescence ends after high school, how difficult it can be to imagine life as an adult, ready to chase your ambitions and people you expected to be in your whole life may just up and leave for their own dreams and goals.
It's good. And I can never talk about this with anyone because people just want to call it shitty, say some 4chan dating game was better and shut out any other opinion.

MEH. Goodbye Volcano High including voice acting, animation, and a new story. Not quite on the heels of Snoot Game, it felt more natural to engage with the characters and more entertaining. It's funny that a game created for a few weeks by a random steamer was better than the real game.
It was made by a team of anons (cavemanon), and the script was saved by the thrashing of a /lit/-poster. It was also made over the course of a year.
I honestly really enjoyed this game, and will probably play it again sooner or later. I get it has problems and all that, but I look at the game that I feel tells the story pretty well, from my eyes anyways. I’ve never played Snoot Game, probably won’t, but I enjoyed this one, and the soundtrack is great

The entire concept is that these are dinosaurs right before the asteroid hit earth. Check a history book, they died.
Dinosaur died by environment factor when the meteor snuff out the sunlight and destroying herbivore foods then starving them all so they didn't immediately died by died slowly by starvation

I'm going to be 100% honest, I really loved this game. It has its problems, it's not really a game, it's moreso an interactive movie with some branching paths, like it's as much of a game as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on SEGA CD, but the story, characters, themes, art & the music are all so good in my opinion. Easily my favourite aspects are the characters themselves, simply because I found them all to be lovable in their own ways, as well as the music being so well made and lovely to listen to. It's just a shame that the actual music segments can literally be bypassed and the game treats you like you've done amazing either way, plus some of the performance issues on PS5 being pretty unacceptable, but overall, I really enjoyed my time with GVH.

Game states that asteroid might hit the Earth, so there's no 100% guarantee that they all died
Who knows. In the story it was mentioned there was a chance that the asteroid might not even hit, and even if it did it might not cause much damage.

Yes, it's worth playing. As for the comparison with the Life is Strange series, I think it depends. Personally, I enjoyed them both.

Yeah, SG is way better. Just go and see the comments of any SG video, everyone praise the writting and characters, there are people who had said that it helped to heal wounds from the past. GVH just doesnt resonate with the audience, and that is a big problem if your game is a visual novel
Sg is a really good game, it isn't necessarily because of the 4chan influence that people think is great, in spanish speaking countries the game became popular because a famous influencer played it and liked it

Painfully slow, boring, mundane, dull, etc... The writing is horrible, the characters are all ENTIRELY blank slates with no personality. Voice acting was pretty damn bad. The only thing going for it were the songs were decent and the animation was nice at times. Huge drags were Fang being just a total loser the entire time. She's a horribly written character and never had to deal with any of her own issues. I'm upset I wasted time even watching this. At least I skipped the D&D garbage.
