    As a longtime Sony NEX camera user that's not into film making but made corporate videos for clients on a budget( and vlogs for myself) I thought of buying the g6 years ago but stuck with Sony however I am seriously fed up with the work that needs to be done to make Sony colors look natural. I don't shoot flat / log but just as in your video Sony always looks like there is some kind of grey-look over all the colors (which is great if you want to create a blockbuster movie unnatural look) ... I did prefer the g6 colors they look more natural and happy whereas the Sony colors look depressed even on a sunny day ;)

    • @NigelBarros
      @NigelBarros  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tobias Michel thanks for the feedback, I think Sony colors always need more work but I did dial down the colors and contrast on the a6000 for grading purposes. Thanks for watching!

    Hey man, first time long time! I was wondering about your opinion on the ultimate settings for getting the most cinematic look from the Panasonic G6? So, neutral vs standard or another setting, and then the numeric value of the contrast, saturation etc. Keep on keeping on, cheers!

    You don't have to do separate system sound for a6000. You can buy the ECM-XYST1M which you can use on it's own, or you can connect your preferred external mic to it because it has an external mic connector. I know it's more expensive, but the image quality with a proper lens is worth it. Speaking of lens, a comparison of the cameras with the same lens would be nice also would love to see how they would fare in low light conditions. Sigma 30mm f1.4 has mounts for both sony and micro 4/3 and it's a very amazing lens in my opinion.

    • @NigelBarros
      @NigelBarros  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haxxy see I've heard that from various people but have yet to see (or hear) of that claim to be true. I've in fact I've used the mic you're referring to and the XYST1M has a port that says "mic out" not "mic in" every time I tried plugging a mic up to it the sound didn't improve at all, and even if what you're claiming works, you still have no manual audio control so the sound would be all automatic gain. And as for a low light test that kinda seems unnecessary, the a6000 would win hands down, a older micro 4/3 sensor will never do as well as a super 35mm semi new sensor from Sony, so that seems kinda useless to compare the two. Like I said I've owned and used every mic for the a6000 and none of them are that great, if you watch my other videos on the a6000
      I talk about it more. Thanks for watching

    I'd like to hear a detailed review about the Sony a7 II and Nikon Z5 for 1080p video. Budget full frame!
    From what I've seen from a few other TH-camrs, the Z5 1080p footage looks a lot more detailed, but the a7 II has a much higher bitrate with XAVC S. The a7 II also seems to suffer more with moiré and aliasing. Is the Z5 footage really more detailed, or is it just oversharpened?
    But, does the XAVC mean the a7 II footage holds up to color grading better than the Z5? I think these are all questions worth exploring.

    Hey Nigel, I'm a long time subscriber of yours and was heavily influenced by your videos to buy my first camera, which was a Canon EOS M that I picked up last summer. I'm currently in the market for a new camera for cinematic video purposes and was wondering what you thought about the G7 vs the a6000. I've found a few used G7's for sale for $650 with 3 lenses, and a used a6000 kit package for $520. Do you think the G7 would be worth grabbing for only $130 more? Any feedback would be much appreciated!

    A Request: can you do a comparison video like this between sony A6000 and Canon T5i(if possible with magic lantern raw video)? Please try to include skin tone comparison before editing and after editing, also try to compare low light performance of the two cameras.

    Hey looking into purchasing my first mirrorless camera, but only have a budget of $500, do you recommend buying a used kit for the G6 or SonyA6000 with an extra lens, or save up and get the G7? Thanks!

      eric abenojar if you can the the g7 is really a no brainer, although if you wanna save some cash and invest in good glass the a6000 is great if you do audio separately

    • @NigelBarros
      @NigelBarros  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No I tested these cameras in avchd to keep it fair, I think o mentioned in the video that I was aware that the a6000 had an xavcs codec update. And yes I’m also aware of both of those mic options and owned them both, wasn’t very impressed with either. Thanks for watching!

    • @dejayrezme8617
      @dejayrezme8617 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah that is good. 28 mbps is definitely too much video compression. Not a fair comparison for the two cameras ;)
      Thanks!

    • @NigelBarros
      @NigelBarros  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dejay Rezme in my testing the extra bitrate only made a slight upgrade that’s was barely noticeable, it only really came handy when pushing the color grade. Since the G6 and the a6000 have avchd shooting options, I wanted to keep things as similar as possible. I think the softer video on the a6000 is due to the cheap kit lens I had on it. But it really goes to show that panasonic not only makes sharp cameras but also really have sharp cheap kit lenses as well. Thanks for tuning in

    • @dejayrezme8617
      @dejayrezme8617 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a total newbie trying to figure a cheap camera to buy to get into making some nice video.
      I figure it's a question of how much detail you have in the shot, e.g. large depth of field for landscapes will totally overwhelm 28mbps. If you have shallow depth of field with blurry background it doesn't matter as much.
      I got one of those little 4k action cameras and found that their unlimited depth of field makes total garbage out of nature shots.
      So I guess if you work with it and use the right lens and aperture you can shoot great footage, but I'd rather not have to worry about bitrate.
      So I'm looking at fast primes now to avoid the issue, and it also seems the sony prime lenses are way more expensive than canon or mft.

    Hi Nigel, I really appreciate what you are doing with this channel. Most of your video are informative and really useful to get at least an idea of what is important to know to do good video works.
    I am a street photo shooter from Italy, and sometimes I shot some unboxing videos (but I've done also some short movies of my neighborhood, you can check my channel). I'm still very noob on video capabilities. I own a Sony a6000, have owned a NEX-6 before (that was my very first serious camera) and now I use it mainly to shoot videos, since I have a Fujifilm X100F for stills.
    Recently I'm wondering if I have to upgrade my a6000 to a G7 (or G80). I think that better video quality doesn't necessarily means better usability, and I've proof since the X100 lines by fuji is so fun and simple to shoot with that I've never pick up my a6000 not once to shoot stills. And even if I've set the a6000 MR meunu 1 to shoot flat profile (I use Portrait -3 -3 -3), at 1/50, 24p, I still feel that this camera is lacking that feeling of not being between me and the subject. I always dig in the menus and rarely find just what I'm searching for. And even if I'm using this camera from 2 years now, I'm not feeling that it's good for me. On the other hand I think that it can be hard to leave APS-C and go to 4/3, Narrower fileld of view, less bokeh. I should buy a speed booster, and then the price will go so high that maybe an used A7R or A7s will be a better choice (since I own also a bunch of vintage MF lenses with adapters. But in this case I must stick with Sony and it's terrible menus and horrible rear display that doesn't rotate... I'm confused. Too much choices, too much compromises.

      Francesco Manfredi Very true, although it has no manual audio control so the audio quality would still be pretty poor, plus no xavcs either. If I ever get a chance I'll definitely try that camera out though, you're right that it could still be a good option if someone wants a larger sensor. Thanks for the input and again thanks watching Francesco!

      ummmm the a6000 has 49 points of AF
      edit: Sony a6000 has 179 in phase and 25 in contrast AF... Probably the reason why the a6000 AF is slower when taking photo but is beast when shooting video.

      der Jack Sensor crop, color reproduction, dynamic range and the difference between Sony's kit lenses vs Panasonic's, those were the comparisons I was making. I'm fully aware of the 16-50 being a soft lens and if you actually watched the video, I mention that with a different lens on the a6000 it would have been just as sharp as the Panasonic.

      Guardian Observer despite the iPhone X ability to shoot in 4k in 60fps. The sensor is too small to make good use of the pixel specs (that's probably fluffed knowing Apple's track record). If you're one of those people who think the iPhone (or any Apple products )excels over anything. It's no need to try to convince you. Enjoy your iPhone camera.
