i loved this song because it reminds me of how i met my wife, but now i'm going to show it to my children because we got them ukuleles for Christmas, how awesome is that
I love encouraging children to learn music at an early age. Making music is one of the most incredible things that humans can do. There are also a lot of rock songs that lend itself to the uke. I’m playing ‘Another Brick in The Wall” which I got from another TH-camr, Jogo 1209 and ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want. ‘. Hope they take to it. God Bless you all.
im a old school country/blues/rock player... and there is no way to deny that mans voice...pop music aint dead... you just have to get past the pops and whistles... gorgeous
He's singing fine. Pure vocal, live with no effects or auto tune. Loads of great singers could sing just like this and you'd hear small imperfections. No singer is flawless every single time. This is a perfectly fine vocal performance.
Actually this is in the same key as the original, there's ukelele on the studio version as well, but the simple fact is, without autotune, compression and other studio trickery, his natural voice is bound to sound different. Plus the fact that when tracking vocals in the studio, he can do it section by section or even line by line if he wants, a live performance allowing space to breath is going to change the way a singer sings, especially when it's this high. I'm a singer, trust me it's HIGH!
Why is everyone bashing this? He is supposed to sound like he is singing at the top of his vocal range - that's the sound his is deliberately going for. Listen to the recording. And he is singing without any vocal effects or backing.
+youtubkeeper I very highly doubt a bigger production like this and a famous pop band wouldn't use any vocal effects. Guarantee you they are using at least EQ, compression, limiter, and reverb/delay.
+jeff darnell I'm sure you're right. But my point really that there are no real effects on the vocals (I barely count reverb as an effect). I can hear very subtle reverb, but there is certainly no pitch correction, harmonising, backing, doubling, etc.
jeff darnell you wish you could sing like him come up with a song like this or even play the Ukulele like they do unfortunately you cannot do any of that so all you have left is hate lol keep hating He can sing the song however he wants that's why is his, check some other video there's one where he sings it outdoors and it sound great obviously not like the original recording otherwise it wouldn't make sense to perform live
+youtubkeeper It doesn't take a genius to figure out that he's fucking hammered. A lot of these guys drink a lot before doing live performances. Take a look at his sunken eyes, droopy eyelids, slurred voice, bobbing of the head with no real balance.
What a bloody great rendition by the lead singer himself. What a voice !! It is soooo high and upbeat and it;s live. I think some people posting on this thread just have not been to enough LIVE performances to know that they differ from the Studio recordings. Cant believe more than Four thousand six hundred viewers have such poor judgement they gave this the thumbs down. It is a savagely groovulant melody.

I sing too, and the amount of creaks I had whilst singing the song were countless. So cut the crap, and the enjoy the damn live show.
Yea he might sound a little out of tune, but with a song like this. Its extremely difficult to sing it without damaging your voice. So give him a break.

@@ds8249 to me he still sounds good. Not everything is last forever. Vocal can change to. This song is hard to sing imagine sing this at every concert it could damaged his vocal cords.
Bintang Baraja bro, he’s hitting basic high notes. It’s not damaging anything lol why do people think a slight flip is killing his throat. He’s clearly just off this day or didn’t warm up right
Technology didn't "ruin" talant. It is just being talented in different ways. And just because there is technology doesn't mean there isnt what there was before. There is, and more.
this is my mothers song. she loves this song. she die two years ago and when i here this song i cry so much but i love it because i think of her. Miss you so much mom
I think the problem is that a lot of people aren't listening with headphones, the way this video is recorded really calls for a different output. (not speakers)
OMG....who told u that u can sing???r u out of ur mind??I have stomach pain after listening to this incredible exclusive acoustic performance of "Hey, Soul Sister" by Train!(((Bravoooooooo...;(((((
You don't need to be a good singer yourself to know that his voice is really off in this clip, and it sounds very different from the official music video.
A lot of singers cant sing in their songs' actual notes while singing live. So does that mean their songs are in higher ranges than their comfortable range? Even in your comfortable range, singing a song like this which barely has any gaps in between its stanzas, is a difficult task. So stop looking down on people who are achieving way more than you in their lives.
@@abhisheklama1393 yeah if they can't sing the notes as well as they do in the studio version it's maybe because the note is not in their comfortable range. Good singers never have problem producing the same or even better sound quality live
@@abhisheklama1393 and im not looking down on him. I myself am a fan of singing out of my range, because I just love high notes. The only problem is it doesn't sound good, however hard I practice. @El Mehdi Tokyo Simon's voice is nowhere near as good as Patrick's, and even then he is millions of light years ahead of you when it comes to having a good voice.
I can tell you that is NOT what u are hearing! At the time of this recording, Pat was 100% sober! The reason his voice is not the normal beautiful voice u are used to is that this song is not really in his key, it never was ~but, it became such a big hit he is forced to recreate it in live performances, constantly...Personally, I think it is harmful to his vocal chords, I wish he'd retire it! The sooner, the better!
Yea he is terrible. But only because he is singing this song in a key where it sits too high for his tessitura. He is a baritone, who made a song for tenors and tried to sing it. Its tiring this way and i believe he would be able to do much better if he transposed it down.
alejandrothefader Hello there. In regards to your statement that tenors can't sing this in chest voice, its true. However, you could tell that he was already mixing alot as he hits the highest note(A4) tenors would be able to stretch a chest dominant mix up there into the needed tessitura without this much strain. He has a really strong voice to manage this song while being a baritone though
+Jing Seng Patrick Monahan is not a baritone by any means or definition. He is a tenor, and a very high one. Just listen to his tessitura and vocal range, both falsetto and chest voice in songs like "Drops of Jupiter", "My Private Nation", "When I look to the sky" and "If It's Love" and you'll hear.
***** Nah being able to sing in tenor range does not equal to being a tenor. A baritone could sing in the tenor range and sound relatively relaxed but he would never be able to get the true ring of a tenor's voice in that range and while he may not sound like it, a baritone would be struggling
Jing Seng Check out this page, it's a forum in which people discuss singer's ranges. They've all agreed that Pat is a tenor. His voice is really high and his voice sounds natural as a tenor voice. There are different kinds of tenors, not all of them have to have the same ring to their voices. Pat can't really sing low and his highs are outstandig without screaming. I really don't think he's a baritone, but you should discuss it here therangeplaceforummotionscom/t1708-patrick-monahan (place the dots like this place.forummotions.com)
Why people are blaming this. There can be differ little between studio and live version. This is pure version with just one ukulele. Even with just one ukulele he can sing every note and the whole song well. This is better than present day trending artist who use auto tune every moment to cover their original voice. This song structure is also better than present days trending song with just 3 or 4 line of rhyme and lyric.
