I am NOT from Sonoma County, but I am strongly oppose to Measure J in Sonoma County. I hope the voters in Sonoma County overwhelmingly vote NO and reject Measure J. I am for the farmers, 100%. I’m all for the farmers but the farmed also need to provide better conditions to the chickens and all other animals. It’s not fair either to you, because you end up consuming it and the chemicals they give those poor animals you feed it to your body as well, not okay. As long as the farmers are treating the animals with some decency and better conditions I’m all for the farmers as well.
A very humanitarian and altruistic proposition. Eating must be regulated in California. California has been cruel and inhumane to animals. California must pass another proposition giving reparations to animals.

What if we were to just enforce the rules on the one problem farm and leave the non-problem farms alone? Do these activists know how hard it is to get organic certification for a dairy? I will have to read more about this but right now this reeks of legislation written by activists who have no experience in the industry and consequently have no idea what they are talking about.

What are the agreed-upon standards for ethical treatment? Can farmers draft that together? I know animal activists will interrogate you harder than I can. I have no idea where to start.

As a small family farm in Sonoma, yes, this will absolutely help us out if it passes. We do not practice factory farming and as a farmer I know how awful it is for the animals in those conditions. Wouldn't you prefer to have milk and other dairy products from animals that have not been suffering? It does make a difference

The dairy farm featured here has ~750 cows. The EPA threshold for a CAFO here is 700... they could just get rid of 50 cows and remain open.
But they said it was on 2,500 acres that's not a factory farm.

Not necessarily Sonoma county is extremely expensive even with its local farming but yet it’s the same price as LA nothing really will change.
What happens to the farmers? If you're going to take away their livelihood---simply because you feel like it---I'd expect significant compensation.

It's about 6 dairies and 15 chicken CAFOs. There are 3000 farms in the county.
