Rudy Gobert is one of my favorite players, I’m really curious why people don’t think he is a good player, just because he doesn’t score much. It’s honestly baffling how much people don’t actually watch him play or understand what he does.
He caught a lot of unfair heat in Utah, where he was the team's entire defensive anchor. Poor Rudy was being forced out of position to guard smaller, more nimble players. Now that he's on a good defensive unit, he can really play to his strengths.
Some guys just get a bad rep and it’s hard to shed it

This is what the modern nba is missing, tenacious defense. Watching great defense is much more fun than watching teams score 130-150 points a night. The Timberwolves are fun to watch because their offense isn’t about iso ball. When they need someone to take over though they have Ant. And their defense is a joy to watch. Any old head can see the refs are allowing the wolves to hand check and I love it.
The booker take was terrible and just a lie and propaganda. He has played with kd for 2 years which is the only offensive player better than him he's played with in his whole career. Chris Paul was out of his prime and not demanding defensive attention anywhere near booker was and booker still carried them to the finals. Before Paul and kd had consistently put up great offensive numbers and scored 70 ad the number one option by far to the point the defense only had to focus him the teams were terrible. The only reason paul and kd went to play with him is because of how good he had been with no help and the main defense focus
Agreed but as time passes this will be forgotten and likely more people will parrot this talking point just like how low says the 2017 Rockets were seen as competition for the KD Warriors

Kd doesn't need an excuse he's playing well against the best defense in the NBA. The other players on the team need to pick it up. He can't score 60 a game, so the other members (Booker) need to step it up

Rudy on the jazz was really expected to just do everything. They thought he was lebron speed or something expecting him to play basically half the court on his own.
After watching these first 3 games, Booker should be traded if the Suns want to end up with a deep enough team for the playoffs. His play is dirty. KD and BB actually play with skill, while Booker plays with his arm bar, flops, and dirty plays off ball plays.
Funnily enough, the Phoenix Suns are without a doubt playing great defense against us, almost as much as we are to them. They absolutely have the better offensively talented team; with more ability to stretch the floor, having better shooters. But when I watch them, they have no game plan playing against us. They seem to have little to no coaching on their side, as they look absolutely clueless on how to play hoops 😭 What I’m noticing about this series so far is that both sides are playing great defense, until the Timberwolves heat up in the second half and win by 20 basically 😂 woulda been awesome if we coulda kept the Suns from scoring below 100 points throughout this entire series, but a 4-0 sweep still cool lmao

League is too deep now for Big 3's with no depth to hope to bring home a ring. Especially when said Big 3 essentially all do the same shit offensively. I said the moment they drafted Beal their ceiling was a second round exit.
I think that in terms of dealing with 4 more prolific scores, you try to limit 2 and hope that the other two don't burn you too bad. I'm this case it seems that the goal was to limit Grayson Allen and Bradley Beal and take your hit from Booker and Durant. But with Allen hurt, the shift went to more defensive pressure on Booker. The series was pretty even with a slightest edge to Minnesota when Allen was healthy and playing but since he's been out it's been pretty lopsided. Also the difference in defensive tenacity is normal is notable. The Timberwolves are playing like their playoff lives are on the line. I'm kinda surprised that your aren't seeing any Bol Bol in this series. I feel like his length might help in the interior.

Strong defensive play is gonna be essential to winning the chip this year due to officiating changes. It just bothers me that they didn't actually define any of the rules. They made them more vague. Hopefully the rule changes are defined this offseason so we can get by this transition period where offensive players don't know what is and isn't allowed. It just creates bad basketball.
Yet again, more evidence showing that the KD trade just made no sense. At the time, as a Suns fan, I was hesitant on it and we were the only team to really do anything against the Nuggets last year in the playoffs. I just never saw how this team would work going forward without a bench. Then we got rid of even more of the bench that we didn't have to pick up a bum Beal, it just makes no sense. Now we have no draft capital for years to come and nobody to throw Beal at and a KD that will probably ask out next year. My team is COOKED

Phoenix should’ve added more defensive depth as opposed to more scoring. KD and Book are mid range snipers but if they fall behind those mid range points ain’t gone do shit. KD made the same mistake he made in Brooklyn. Opting for more offense instead of surrounding himself with three and d players to slow down the opposing offense when he and book don’t got it going.
Wouldve made more sense to fill out the team with quality role players as opposed to getting a third star and having a bunch of minimum contracts even if Bradley was the same level we've seen him be at this team was never gonna win a chip

He might not have a very deep offensive bag. But his offensive gravity is massive. Teams constantly need to send 2 players when Rudy is rolling or else he gets an easy lob. This opens up easy shots on the perimeter. Minnesota is top 3 in team 3pt%. And having Ant and KAT who also have massive gravity on offense, it makes really tough decisions on their opponents when they get rolling.

The point of the original comment is to say that KD can only thrive if his main role is scoring and not other things, but objectively, he has been able be a decent-good defender and decent playmaker while being the best scorer in the league. In terms of just playing games and how much he impacts winning, he’s not some “scoring only” guy. In terms of getting far in the Playoffs and achieving well there, he’s also been that top scorer in the league while also being above average defensively and decent at playmaking.
That is to say, you can’t just go out and “matchup hunt” or exploit him because if his playmaking or defense. He’s a lot more than just a scorer
Edit: And then to the extent of THIS team, it’s not as if he’s being exposed for his inability to play defense or playmake. It’s just the team around him not being great that doesn’t make the team go far (not being great meaning not a real contender).
