    Thoughts from an Old School Large Format/Medium Format photographer.
    More pixels don't matter much unless you're printing very large (I have quite a few 40x50 and 24x60 prints) or you have an 8K monitor/projector. Full HD is only 2MP, 4K requires 8MP, and 8K can display about 32MP.
    At typical print viewing distances, 26 MP is easily enough at 24"x36" - for close viewing, you'll want 300dpi, which is about 13.3"x20" Or you can upscale and go much larger.
    If you are going to display at 8K, then a simple upscaling of your editing software of choice is more than adequate. Sure - you get some cropping space, which is always nice - but Adobe SuperResolution will still likely leave you with an image more than adequate for an 8K display, even after cropping half your frame away.
    If your goal is an 8K display, it's worth going to the H2/T5.
    Thoughts on IBIS
    If you shoot from a Tripod - this matters not at all. If you can keep your shutter speed up to 1/focal length and have a good stable position (NOT holding the camera at nearly arm's length looking at the rear screen), then IBIS is nice but probably unnecessary. Consider trading it for a bit higher ISO and potentially a tiny (probably not visible) bit of noise. If you're working with long lenses - they mostly all have OIS.
    Eye Focus
    There is some concern (many reports) that Eye Focus on the T5/H2 has a pretty high miss rate - this may be related to burst rate - or something else. I hope that the correct choice of settings will solve the problem - or, worst case, a firmware update. It's possible it's a hardware fault - in which case, we'll have to suffer through.

      🙌🏾👏🏾Simply well said! Thank you so much Vincent, for sharing your wealth of knowledge! I’m going pin the comment so more people can benefit from this post.
      I have seen and heard the issues of AF in the CMOS 5R sensor cameras and also experienced it myself but because it was for a brief period, I just dismissed the issue as user error. It will be interesting to hear what Fujifilm has to say or possible solutions that can assist users.

    When shooting in really dynamic environments, I use single point autofocus and recompose, and I do not generally shoot wider than F2. It's a bit clumsy perhaps, but I get very high hit rates working that way.

    I'm also an amateur with an XT-3. I don't use it for video, only photography. So, for the most part does a great job. With the recent selling frenzy by those upgrading I was able to afford two Fuji lenses I have been wanting for a while. Both were mint and were at really good prices. I'm thinking that I will hang on to my XT-3 for a while. But, I will keep my eyes open for a great price on a used XT-4 or maybe even a great sale down the road on a new one. We'll see. For now, I want to focus on my skills and become a better photographer using what I have...that beautiful XT-3!! Happy Thankgiving!

      For photography, just keep investing on famous 'typical magical' Fuji lens, like XF35mm f/1.4, XF56mm f/1.2, 16mm f/1.4, 18-55 or 16-80, with these things never go wrong. Grab the new XF18mm f/1.4 WR whenever possible for future proven(this lens can almost replace 16mm 1.4 with excellent video capability). Skip XT-4 as a transitional product.

    AF on X-T3 and X-T4 is the same! I have all of them (including T5) and have shot dozens of weddings with T3 and T4... AF on T5 is better for sure, but I don't need 40mp for weddings. For studio it is nice. Actually - I switched back to T3 bodies (gripped) this year after shooting weddings with T4 (gripped as well) for more than 2 years because I absolutely hate flippy screen (photo only) and for fast pace weddings IBIS is irrelevant. Kept T4 bodies for video though.

    I am that amateur enthusiast that owns and loves his XT3. However I really have found the autofocus to be lacking at the most inopportune times. I'm on the fence with whether or not to upgrade. I want better autofocus, I want IBIS and I'd like more detail in my images. However these are 'enthusiast' wants and not needs. I feel upgrading would future proof me for quite a few years? Great insights! Thanks for the video.

      Hi Geoff, I believe that whether we are enthusiasts or doing photography professionally, having a camera that helps us capture images as best as possible and also inspires us to shoot is a big deal. The XT5 definitely ticks both boxes and the price makes it even more tempting. Upgrading is maybe a no brainer but what I love about my XT3 is that small tweaks and adjustments to settings always helps me greatly. The IBIS is a big factor especially if you use mostly primes. Not everyone wants to shoot on zoom lenses, so in terms of IBIS , the XT5 is very compelling.

  • @TeriqZA
    @TeriqZA ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for yet another insightful video!
    Seeing as that you have three XT3 and XT5, can you please comment on the colours produced by both, particularly with primes. That is - are you getting the same/similar colours SOOC on just about default settings, or is the XT5 (XH2!) noticeably cooler?
    Your insights appreciated :)

    • @lostcreators
      @lostcreators  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Teriq, I hadn’t done a critical side by side comparison to be honest in terms of colour rendition sooc. I will look at the last images I took on the XT3 and the XT5 and compare. I’ve seen from a few other reviews where it seems like the CMOS 5 R sensors cameras just seem to lift the shadows more and the blues are a bit punchier. For me, I shoot typically I Provia Standard, Raw images 1/2 stop over exposed on my XT3 because it doesn’t have the most amazing dynamic range. I use two standard presets so I don’t really fuss too much on the colours because fujifilm raw files are easy to edit and don’t fall apart easily. I will check and get back to you, I’m also interested in the result.

      @TeriqZA ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lostcreators Thank you for taking the time to read and respond :)
      Agreed - Provia STD RAW is easy enough to edit, but since your post I've realized that there's a new "WB Auto Ambience Priority" setting under the XT5 Q menu which easily makes a noticeable warmer difference, more akin to the familiar XT2/XT3 hues. Looking forward to your input when you have time :)

    The lack of a battery grip for the X-T5 is a deal-breaker for me. A lot of my time with the X-T3 is spent shooting sports in a vertical orientation with a 50-140/2.8. The extra battery life, something to hold on to (that lens is heavy) and vertical orientation shutter button all make a big difference. That makes the X-H2 a more compelling option for me... though I'm staying put with my X-T3.
    That said, I'm primarily using an X100V, which internally is very similar to an X-T3. An X100 series with the internals of an X-T5 -- similar to the X100V, but adding 40MP and IBIS -- would be very compelling.

      Hi Jeuziel, thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video. The idea of and x100v with the cmos 5R sensor or in the X Pro 4 is actually very exciting. But I think Fujifilm are a bit careful not to create the perfect camera 😅

    • @JeffreyHauser
      @JeffreyHauser ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree not having a battery grip for the XT-5 is a deal breaker for me also. Prolonged shooting in the portrait orientation of your camera makes a battery grip a necessity, not to mention the added battery power for your camera. I do not need 45 megapixels, so I will continue to use my XT- 3 cameras for the time being. No interest in the XH2 or XH 2s.

    I am hearing rumblings and doubts about this camera’s AF, specifically the Continuous AF. As I shoot a lot of fast paced events, this has me a bit concerned. I should have this camera in my hands before next week when my camera store gets their orders in, so we shall see. That said, I plan to keep my ‘3’ regardless (hell, I still have my ‘2’👍), one thing that I learned as a working shooter for close 38 years, is you can't have too many cameras, one will invariably fail you at a critical point.

      Woah! 🤯38 years is a wealth of knowledge and skills! Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video. When I tested the XT5, I experienced some challenges with continuous AF especially with Eye AF. Because I only had the camera for a few hours, I just assumed it was user error. Thnks for video. I only use singlepoint, I found that making the focus box big has the best hitrate if you need to be quick. i am normally under pressure so single point big box. i use topazz for the rest. from other real life YT I can see the xt5 has better AF but not nearly enough for an upgrade. Time will tell if Fuji can sort ou their AF. They should just buy sony's AF. I have 2 systems now because of that bad AF. i prefer the xt3 but my client deserve in focus images. Once you go single point focus and the joystick, there's no going back 😅 I shoot multiple ways and shoot a bit if video too and I found that while I have workarounds such as shooting manual, I work a lot slower, so the improved AF from the XT5 and beyond is greatly needed. The fact that the new AF is still not on par with Canon and Sony is disappointing as it is the single biggest pain point for all Fuji users. I do hope they get it right either with firmware upgrade or just adopt the competition's technology.

    • @lostcreators
      @lostcreators  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      😅 that’s still fast moving 😅 after the last firmware upgrade it feels very close to the XT4, it’s really good and I’d say over 85% hit rate and for me that’s pretty good. You still get those random shots where the AF box turned green and confirmed focus but the images would be soft. But again, that’s like 1-2 images out of 10 and where the conditions are a little more difficult, like low contrast environments, shooting into the sun or light source or multiple subjects or someone moving their hands around and stuff. But even in those situations, you will still walk away with the shot.

    Me, I simply always buy extra batteries; for the x-s10 and now the X-H2. It's simply that, as an amateur photographer, I shoot everything. 2 fully loaded extra batteries don't cost that much but solves major headaches.
    With IBIS you have the opportunity to try vintage lenses. I have a few Pentax vintage lenses and the work well on the IBIS stabilized cameras. Look into a few of them. It may take your photography into an enjoyable realm. The X-S10 was the first Fuji camera to provide IBIS in an *affordable* Fuji camera.

      🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣You just made my day! Always great chatting with you Enrique. I was at a friend's house today to shoot a video about the X100v and X100f and I actually told him that some of the images I took with the XT5 took forever to get right because it kept picking everything around the eye except for the eye. This made the focusing a tad unsettled by the time you press the shutter, as a result, the images weren't as sharp as what I expected from 40mp. I also watched some videos where the xh2 was compared to the Canon R6 and the Sony A7v and I realized that the same thing was happening. But I think it's not a total loss, it seems that the algorithm is not perfect and could be fixed in a firmware upgrade.
