    I like the bubbles. Reminds me of old glass

    I have heard that adding a tiny amount of water to your stone or sand paper, sands the glass with a nicer finish. Also sands quickly.

      A little water also helps less of the dust get into the air.

    Thank you for this! My microwave kiln and glass pieces are currently in a box because I was a bit scared of it. But now I might take them out of the box and at least look at them. 😁

      One step at a time 😁😁 I understand being a little nervous. I was when I first started but it is really pretty simple. You just have to remember that you are working with really hot items. And don't be too disappointed if some of your projects don't turn out. Thanks for watching. 🙂

    if you tap the glass on the underside of your score lines it will break easier, often the gentle tapping is more satisfying; you can watch the break follow the score.

      Thanks for the tip I am still not very good at the cutting part and I am always nervous about the score lines. I need a lot more practice I guess. 🙂

    Thank you so much Sindy , I really really enjoyed watching you create these beautiful and uniquely stunning pendants. I absolutely love ❤❤❤❤ and adore them. I’m definitely thinking of getting one of these fuse kilns and making some myself too. xxxx Mags ❤❤❤

    I like this idear and I am defenetly going to try this method. Thank you for showing.
    Some things I found out in the last years. It is easier (usually) when you cut in your direction anstat away from you and you can use a ruler (ad least I do). if you give the glass a gentle tap with the back of the cutter helps the crack run throu. I sand the back of my item swith fine wet sandpaper. Water on the smothin surfis does make your glass smother and the sandpaper last longer. The finer the sand paper the more shine on the glass. You can also use polish wool (like you use with soapstone).

    Stretching wire makes it a bit more pliable. Just hold both ends with a plier and pull not to hard because it can snap. Hope this helps.

    Is it best to use a dedicated microwave for a microwave kiln?

    • @UpcycleDesignLab
      @UpcycleDesignLab  29 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It's up to you really. If you have space and can afford a second microwave.

    You only need 4 pounds of pressure to properly cut glass. You will have a cleaner cut with less shards.

      I usually follow a ruler edge and don't press so hard, and it works. I agree, you get fewer shards.

    What happens to the sharpie marker if you don’t clean it off? Could a sharpie be used to draw a design that will stay in the project?

      Hi thanks for watching. I haven't done any specific testing on this but I am pretty sure that the ink would just burn off. I might discolor the glass a little but I don't think it would remain a clear image.

    This is so interesting!! Thank you so much for sharing. Do you know if it’s safe to do this in the same microwave you cook food in?

      Hi thanks for watching. I am sorry I don't have a definitive answer for you. I have a couple of different kilns and one say to clean the microwave thoroughly before and after fusing the other one recommends having a dedicated microwave for fusing.

    • @sharon-dq9qu
      @sharon-dq9qu ปีที่แล้ว

      No it's not safe to use the microwave you use for food ,fusing glass and the kiln paper/fibre paper give off toxins

  • @BJEXUM

    I was skeptical, but thinfire fuse paper will change your life!

      do NOT try it for inclusions/impressions, though, ask me how I know lol

      Can you do it under the glass above the fiber paper?

    Fantastic tutorial. Is it possible to put confetti glass in the already fired impression and refire again?

    • @UpcycleDesignLab
      @UpcycleDesignLab  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi thanks for your question. You can fuse the glass more the once but I don't think the impression will hold its shape without the fusing paper. I haven't ever used confetti glass so I don't know if it would take the shape of the impression but I think it might blend together more than you want it to. Sorry I don't have a clearer answer. Thanks for watching.

    You should have the sharpening stone in a container with water to control the glass dust

    If I added the coil of wire to the glass before fusing, would the wire melt?

    • @UpcycleDesignLab
      @UpcycleDesignLab  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi - I believe that it would melt and I wouldn't want to put the metal in my microwave. Thanks for watching.

    I score against a straight edge and then use running pliers.

    Grain from fusing paper. Wash paper with an agent like fumed silica, dry, then sand with fine grit on another piece of glass. You can get 10,000 grain!🤗😇
