Castor Oyl is from the original comic strip by EC Segar- the creator of Popeye. In fact, the comic strip was originally called THIMBLE THEATRE and Castor was one of the stars, predating Popeye. Once Popeye came into the the strip in 1929 (!) his popularity took it over. Eventually in the 1970s they changed the name of the strip to POPEYE. But Castor is definitely NOT Wimpy. Boss Fight is coming out with another wave of these figures and Wimpy will be immortalized in plastic goodness then.
More information here than In the entire video. Just do better, sir. Being worthy of free toys is not automatic, you are being given them to do a service, it's not like you have a right to do the reviews, they have to be substantive and when the audience that these figures are being made for have to pick up the slack for you, then you are not doing the basic minimum that both the customers and the company sending these to you deserves to receive. Don't take these things for granted. They could all go away if you do. Cheers! Do better, another false take from a random fan of figures and Popeye.
series 2 is: Wimpy, Poopdeck Pappy (and Pooky Jones), Popeye (in the white sailor suit), and Sea Hag (and Vulture). While the next series/waves haven't been announced, as far as who, it has been said that there will be more waves. These are cool, and I plan to get more, although things could change my mind.
I have them, and love them. Had them preordered since day 1. Also have wave 2 preordered. They said they are planning on characters from the original strips, and doing characters never done before.
Dude, thanks!!! Just bought them. I had some Christmas $$$ still on Amazon plus that's a great price and free shipping... only thing that would have made the deal sweeter was if I didn't have to pay taxes on it.
its crazy the amount of popye toy photos that are out there already, and i look forwards to seeing what photographers will come up with now with these toon versions. castor oil who? you mean not-wimpy? what a deep cut.
I love the Popeye cartoons I'm on the fence about buying them as action figures. Maybe I'd buy them if they made other cartoon figures. Such as looney tunes and Hannah-Barbera.
Kyle man, Missed opportunity! you should have worn your captain's hat for this review. I'm shocked that Wimpy wasn't part of this series 1. When you were showing the back of the boxes in the Popeye Olive Oyl video, I thought that Castor was Wimpy. I was wrong. Also if you haven't looked ut up yet, Bluto used to be known as Brutus. If they want a deep cut, if there is a series 2, they should put Hamgravy in there. He is the ex of Olive Oyl. Cool set btw. I like the idea of Alf, the Simpsons, Ren and Stimpy, and Popeye all hanging out on the same shelf.
@@KylePeterson1980 yeah I was confused when I would watch Popeye when I was a kid b/c it always went back and forth with his name. Sometimes he was Brutus and sometimes he was Bluto. Did Wimpy make the cut for series 2?
@@andrewmoeller1987 yeah, I just went and looked a little bit ago, and I really like the look of white sailor suit Popeye. I'm also happy Wimpy made it to series 2 :) I think it was a really weird choice to have Castor Oyl instead of Wimpy in series 1, but hey, I wasn't the one who decided who was in each set.
@heisensaul5538 you have to think about it from a business standpoint. Saving Wimpy for series 2 keeps people interested in the line. If all the big name characters come out first, the fans might not return to buy the next series of waves. I went in on all the figures, except for the Black and White Popeye exclusive to BBTS.
Should not have included Jeep, Castor never was paired with Jeep in strips or movies. Jeep was added long after Castor was forgotten. A better prop would have been a big bag of money. Castor was always coming up with get-rich-quick schemes...and would rub hen's head for good luck. Which always worked!!

I'm just getting Popeye and Bluto. I was a big fan of the 1980s Popeye movie. Robin Williams and Paul Smith did a great job playing those characters.

Thanks Kyle Peterson for presenting these Popeye figures here at ur Plat form. They bring in big beautiful memories.

Bluto was also called Brutus at one time in the old Popeye cartoons. But I mostly remember him as Bluto.
Wave 1 is 20 bucks on Amazon….hope wave 2 goes to that price as well after it is released….Cool video and review! I like these figures….

@@CesarIsaacPerez nice! Glad you got them!
Awesome, I’m new to a Popeye vid!
Grabbed Popeye to see what they were like and I’m very impressed. It’s also odd that only your review pointed out the magnet in Popeye’s head

Wimpy is in the next wave
If they want to make an alternate Bluto, they could make him as Sindbad the Sailor or the phony Superman!
Great review
The classics nice!! 👍🏻
I remember the Popeye and Son cartoon from the 80's

If they sell well I'm sure they'll find other IPs to make toys of.

My dad still calls him Brutus. Series 2 is now up for pre-order.
