    There were endless spots where they could have been hurt in this video, maybe not critically injured, but still injured. I thought it was a scary video to watch. Probably because I've faced these exact moves since I'm a lover of off trail and done a lot of bushwhacking. Nothing's harder than bushwhacking up a steep hill through shoulder high brush. And then throw in the insects! Its a nightmare and you feel like you're on the edge of being overwhelmed emotionally. Also, I thought this woman's moves in dicey situations showed intelligence in that she knew you can't just launch yourself and hope it works, you have to know you're controlling your hand and feet placement. She knows what she's doing and has a very high work capacity. I saw their video of a one day ascent of Mt. Shasta. Very impressive couple.

      Thanks very much -- that means a lot to us coming from a fellow bushwhacker. You are absolutely right about the difficulty of going uphill through shoulder-high brush -- it made boulder scrambling upstream for 2 1/2 miles seem almost refreshing! We really appreciate the compliment. ❤️

    Good job! All most everyone else would have given up. In the thousands of years that the area has been inhabited, I imagine only a few people have seen that waterfall.

      Thank you, and yes that was our feeling as well. There was utterly no sign of any human being at the waterfall or even going to it -- no old footprints in the dirt or anything. All we saw were a few animal prints. Amazing! ❤️

    For a moment there I thought Elise was going to break down and eat one of Adam's pop-tarts! What an adventure! Has to be one of my favorites of your videos, especially with Elise's sense of humor throughout and seeing you guys experiencing so much joy at the end.

      Haha thanks so much -- this is one of my favorite videos too for the exact same reason! I felt really proud of keeping my sense of humor even though, as you could see, I was really having a hard time on the way out and was on the verge of giving up several times if Adam hadn't willed me through. It really was pure joy at the waterfall, and I didn't even mind the hike back after I got to experience that incredible place! ❤️ --E

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great question, Marc, and yes. Where I really shortened them was on parts of the descent which were ultra-steep and scary. I tend to shorten them all the way down while descending facing the slope, and just dig them in like Wolverine. Unfortunately we didn't get a shot of that because it was so dicey in those parts we couldn't spare a hand for filming, but will try to get a shot of it next time. --A

    Elise, I see that Rambo💪 has pushed you to your limits again! Whatever you guys have for breakfast we want some! Steroid cheerios? And you rock scrambling in a bikini! That qualifies for a Guiness world record. We admire you guys for your extreme perseverance to push on thru nasty obstacles, having bugs for snacks, and conditions that only wild animals would dare to endure. Only Lewis & Clark would have been so brave! The reward at no trails end was awesome, but we can't imagine how exhausted you two must have been at the end of the day! Talk about a good night sleep after that. We are so glad that the water is the only thing that took a fall!😮 Catherine & Ron🤟🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

      Haha thanks so much, guys! Full disclosure, I did take an accidental slip and slide into a big pool on the way back, but no injury except to my pride. Funny you mention Lewis and Clark, because Adam grew up along their route to the PNW, so as a little kid in school he always idolized them and imagined he'd be like them one day -- he will love this comparison!! Meanwhile, at least for me the rock scrambling was a cake walk compared to that crazy bushwhack up and down the mountain face -- that thing was dicey AF! ❤️ --E

    it was epic! So Adam, in the spirit of your poetic interlude, I call this sequel of sorts "Elegy written in a country church office." (be gentle - I only spent a few minutes on it!)
    The flying bugs that swarm’d like angry bees,
    have faded much the way of evening light.
    the task be accomplished, everyone sees;
    The sufferfest o’er, giving way to night.
    Oh waterfall! Unseen by human eye,
    Your glory and thunder impress the soul.
    your depths and rapids we could not deny,
    but beholding your beauty was our goal.
    thanks as always for taking us along!

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      OMG Jeff you absolutely made my day! Love it. If only "The sufferfest o'er" had occurred somewhere in the canon 😂 Did you know that the romantic poets, particularly Wordsworth and Coleridge, loved doing sufferfest-style hikes in the Lake District? They would go out all day and come home totally exhausted. Anyway, many thanks -- brought brought a huge smile to my face. --A

    This was awesome :) I did a bushwhack earlier in the year out to Mildred Falls, highest falls in San Diego County, which only runs in the spring. That looked rough! I was really nervous for you guys a couple of times. What are you wearing for footwear? There were parts that I feel like I would have slipped but you looked like you had decent grip. I love hiking with poles but the bouldering I would have wanted to tuck away somewhere. Not sure if that’s an option with your lightweight packs. Glad it seemed to be worth it in the end!

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, and those are great questions. For footwear, we're both wearing hi-grip trail runners that we ended up not loving for actual running, so we use them for hard river hikes instead. They really work great for traction, and haven't gotten totally destroyed yet since we don't use them too often. Ya the poles are a trade off for sure. If we really need our hands for a lot of climbing we can get the poles into the pack, but here we would have just been pulling them right back out for all the slippery river crossings anyway so we just left them out. ❤️

      @@LiveHardxLoveHard yes!! Indeed! I totally get it! Last June during our road trip my friend and I did an unplanned afternoon hike w/ only 2 tiny tangerines and some water in our packs up Nevada Falls in Yosemite (after learning closures for Inspiration Point and Taft Point), we were so hungry and tired but the journey to see the waterfall was totally worth it. Another poem for you lovebirds-
    Elise and Adam, seekers of delight,
    Set forth on a hike, with spirits bright.
    Through a super bloom, colors ablaze,
    A tapestry of nature, in a vibrant haze.
    Their footsteps danced amidst petals fair,
    Inhaling the scents that filled the air.
    But fate's whimsy played a mischievous tune,
    As Elise, mid-stride, swallowed a bug too soon.
    Undeterred, they pressed on, despite the surprise,
    On treacherous terrain, with determined eyes.
    Slippery rocks challenged their every stride,
    Yet hand in hand, they fearlessly defied.
    Their souls intertwined, they ventured forth,
    Driven by the call of wonders unearthed.
    And lo, in the distance, a mesmerizing sight,
    An incredible monster waterfall, pure and white.
    Its cascading waters roared with majestic might,
    A symphony of nature, a breathtaking sight.
    Elise and Adam stood in awe and wonder,
    Transfixed by the beauty, their hearts asunder.
    For in that moment, nature spoke to their souls,
    A reminder of life's grandest goals.
    To embrace the challenges, the unexpected thrills,
    And find beauty in moments, both big and small.
    Though Elise had swallowed the bug's unwelcome sting,
    It did not deter the joy that love could bring.
    Together they witnessed nature's magnificence untamed,
    A testament to the bond they had reclaimed.
    With gratitude in their hearts, they basked in the spray,
    Immersed in the magic of that glorious day.
    For in overcoming obstacles, they had truly found,
    That love's strength knows no bounds.
    So let the bugs buzz and the rocks be slippery,
    Elise and Adam's love will forever be.
    In the face of challenges, they shall prevail,
    With nature's wonders, their love will never fail.

    It's so funny, because of all the insane hard core hikes and climbs you guys have done on high mountains and deserts, this one seemed to be as challenging as the best of them. Unless you have bushwhacked off trail, you can't appreciate this kind of adventure and how hard it can be. I have done it a couple of times, and I can attest that it is insanely hard! My buddy and I were scratched bloody by thorns and brambles, which from a distance, looked so soft and plushy. But up close, they became vicious, cruel brambles determined to eat us alive. I have done nothing that compares to that hike, but I do have a waterfall story.
    There is a place near where I live called "Fall Creek Falls" State Park.
    A couple of buddies and myself were contracted to do a video for the parks, this is decades back (and yeah, it's on YT). It was a fantastic adventure, and at the time (can't speak for now), the falls was runnning very similar to the one you showed. The trail was easy, nothing to tell there, but the falls had carved out a plunge pool at the bottom, and a few were swimming in it. Fun, but no big deal.
    I thought, what would it be like to go inside the falls, and I did just that. It was like stepping inside a hurricane, then just as easily you could step out, then back in. The hardest part was the trip out, still NO comparison to your trail since it was well manicured, but the grade was VERY steep, so I was breathing hard at the end.
    Enjoyed the video, WOW, what a climb. Tim

      Tim that is awesome! I actually don't know many people who have done that, because it really does hit like a hurricane and as soon as they get close they're like, nah. It's such a cool experience though, as long as it doesn't knock you out! --A

    I wasn't kidding on Sherman pass from westside/100 giants sides. The river down the steep gorge at cascades is perfect in low flow. Kern River Kernville area.
    GREAT VIDEO! AS USUAL.

    How does one fairly quantify or determine what makes the "best" waterfall?
    For me it’s about the distance, struggle, nature and of course, the waterfall.
    And while Adam seems to have made easy work of all four of these, Elise had a different experience to show us.
    She really had to focus and use all of her inner & outer strength, including all 114 chakras😂to overcome these obstacles. Did I mention bugs & insects? Well, let’s just say Elise was at the front of the buffet line dinning on these creatures.
    Adam, ever the super hero, taking the lead bushwhacking his way thru 7’ tall super bloom growth and some pretty sketchy boulder scrambling is was what was required to tie this all together and get to the big payoff, the ever illusive, So. Ca. waterfall.
    So, in my opinion, this particular waterfall has to rate among the “best”, bugs, insects and all.

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Frans that is a perfect encapsulation! I was struggling so hard on this one from beginning to end, and just following in Adam's wake got me through. I had several moments of real doubt, but once we got to that waterfall I felt so overjoyed and glad we'd stuck it out -- it was incredibly beautiful in person, and we could feel that no one had been there in a really long time. So I fully agree with your "best" designation! ❤️ --E

      Wow that sounds freaking awesome! So did you treat it like snow and leave an unpacked "slow-down-zone" at the bottom before running into something? The scary thing about sledding for me was always picking up too much speed! --A

      So glad you saw this one! Definitely one of our most challenging adventures, but so worth it to find that waterfall! ❤️

    Mmmmmm, protein. Dinner with a view. That was quite the hike. Hope the way back was a little easier. Loved the video.

      Haha ya those bugs were no Pop Tart but they suffice in a pinch! Delighted you loved the vid -- we had a great time editing and thinking about you guys enjoying it! -- and yes, the way back was much easier emotionally because we knew what we had to do. Going out was really hard because we didn't know if we'd be able to get there or not, but once we made it we just chilled on the way back. ❤️

    I love bushwhacking. Right up my alley. Watched all your videos. You guys are always the best out there!!!!

      That is awesome! Great to get props from a fellow bushwhacker -- it's a hard way to get places, but as you know the places you get to are always worth it. So glad you're enjoying the vids -- lots more big adventures coming as we move into summer!! ❤️

    Sooo Awesome!! great payoff too at the end. So...what was the time back. It's usually faster but in this case I'm not so sure lol

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you're right Michael it was definitely faster back. We took a chance on following the river all the way out and barely made it through, which saved us a couple of brutal hours of bushwhacking up and down. So about 4 hours on the way out as opposed to 6 on the way in! ❤️

    I don’t know whether to like this video or not as it looked like torture with the bugs and abnormally large flowers and climbing up the canyon - an adventure for sure all by yourselves - come to NC for even better waterfalls

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure, Rick! My brother has been talking up those NC waterfalls for years, and that will def be one of our first early retirement destinations!! ❤️

    I did a lot of bushwacking when I was a kid in the Puente Hills of So
    Cal, but this was really extreme.
    Where are you at here, looks like the hills above Malibu or Ventura County.
    BTW, Loved the waterfalls!! 😊

      This was actually deep in the San Gabriels, Carl, but you're right it really does look a lot like the Santa Monicas. So glad you're liking the waterfall hikes -- it's the best waterfall season ever in SoCal, and we want to take full advantage of it! ❤️

    Anything worth a damn in life takes A LOT of effort to achieve. Both of you are going to be 100+ y/o on your deathbeds and you'll vividly remember this waterfall because it took a lot to get to.

    not looking forward to the bugs this year in utah! so much water and I'm wondering if some of the peaks will even be accesable by augast lol.

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shawn that is so kind of you to say, and wonderful for us to hear -- thank you! Yes the bugs are freaking insane this year here already, so you are definitely headed for Bugageddon in Utah. We're having the same problem here with our peaks -- just too much avalanche danger for us in most of the Sierra right now, but we definitely have our packs out and ready to go once it seems at least somewhat safe! ❤

    That was some bushwacking...reward at the end...thx for taking us along...now the return hike...

    • @LiveHardxLoveHard
      @LiveHardxLoveHard  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya the bushwhacking was intense but SO worth it. Amazingly, the return was better than the original hike out because at that point we knew what we had to do and that we were over half way, so mentally it was easier (though totally exhausting physically!). ❤️
