A couple of TH-cam friends said to make my video titles controversial. So here goes nothing.
NKT-275 White Dot transistors are the clearest and most dynamic sounding I’ve ever heard. So, I’m calling them the best. There. Is that controversial enough? Lol
THEY’RE BETTER THAN A KLON! I WOULD KNOW! LOL
My face at 16:15 says it all.
It does make me wonder about the clone/rip off market. Analog Mike Piera finds fakes all the time. It’s weird. The world is weird.
Nothing much bloviating here. Just a bunch of racket. Enjoy, folks.

Jason Isbell uses a Sun Lion. I think on Twitter he specifically mentioned using on Flying Over Water live. Also, a band like Spoon uses fuzz. Even War on Drugs.

Also, Jeff Tweedy and Nels Cline from Wilco, etc

I do listen to Isbell but none of the others. I’ll make a playlist.

Very nice and melodic playing. You really display the dynamics of the setup.

You are one of the VERY few people that have an older NKT275 White dot Sun Lions (I have one too) and they are so rare that it is hard to figure out how much they are worth due to the lack of others that have one and are putting it up for sale.....You just don't hear of many that are around.... I acquired mine because I already had a Sunface NKT275 white dot fuzz and loved it so much..and was watching their prices go up over time....then i saw a guy selling a SunLion NKT275 white dot on Craigslist here in Austin and at that time he was already asking $500 (which was A LOT at the time but I had a feeling they were just going to go up in price (which they indeed proved to do) (PLUS I loved the sound so much I thought I should get a "spare".....now I'm sure they go for 3x that much. PS I did get Bill Webb (high end amp tech for Eric Johnson here in Austin to do the very same mod you asked Analogman about (reversing the order so as to have Beano into Sunface....and yeah i do like it a lot better this way....SO IF you can find an amp tech that you feel understands working on VERY OLD, FRAIL, SENSITIVE, IRREPLACEABLE Transistors such as the RARE NKT275 white dotted transistors you could have them do this mod for you...(of coarse doing it at your own risk) But,yeah I do like it better this way, so I thought I'd mention it. I've seen one other one on Reverb...But you are the only other person I know that has a Sun Lion W/NKT275 white dot (both sides)....Sure I've seen plenty of Sun face NKT275 white dot.....But never the SUNLION NKT275 white dot....so i thought i'd chime in

It’s my favorite fuzz and boost. It’s all about the cleans!

I have a BART/RCA and love it… such great cleans. I use it as a feedback enhancer for free jazz. How would you compare running both channels at the same time to a regular Sun face?

I think Rhett Shull has a fuzz on his board most of the time - maybe even an octave fuzz. +1 on Isbell. I've only tried a Way Huge swollen pickle and never really got it working with my rig. Seemed kind of over the top at all settings. I've used the high gain side of a Hudson Broadcast to get into fuzz like territory but it's not a "real" fuzz. That Pedal Show I think did an episode where they put pedals in the fridge and compared them.

Rhett Shull? Isn’t he the 6th Backstreet Boy? He’s like the 5th Beetle right? I kid. I think I remember seeing a fuzz on his board but I’d have to ask him. I like the LOOK of a lot of what’s new and out there, but the prices can kick rocks.

@@austinskinner Rhett wants it that way :p. +1 on prices. I mean I get something like the Automatone given the complexity or H90... but dang a fuzz circuit?

I was angling more away from the classic vintage examples and wondering more en masse who’s using all the fuzz varieties available now. Seems to be a very popular new item for every builder.

I understand. John fruciante is another modern fuzz guy. I think most people don’t like fuzz because it disappears in a band mix unless your trio. Ariel Posen, josh smith and Joey Landreth are some other modern fuzz artists

Great video Austin! NKT275 is one of the best for volume cleanup and "tube amp" response that I've came across. I bought an Analogman white dot Fuzz Face and my Cornell First Fuzz with the same white dots about 2 years ago and they were not cheap but not the prices they are now. I think as what happened with real BBD analog delays. People started to notice they are becoming unobtanium and got scared. We'll see....(there's plenty of silicon transistors left 🙂) here's that Cornell if you are interested. th-cam.com/video/SFhNBbLr7TU/w-d-xo.html

I could do with any germanium transistor in the ballpark. I’d call Mike for his take in a heartbeat. But still, I love what I’ve got!

@@austinskinner that’s the best place to be. I like my bc183 sunface the most because it’s quiet without RFI. The 275s seem to love radio stations here…
