Can we all collectively agree that Cater deserves the biggest hug? I kind of understand his thought process. He thinks if he makes a buffer between himself and others he won't have to say goodbye when leaving. I want him to be happy and for him to have lasting bonds with those he met at NRC.
With Cater being one of my favorite boys, I did notice a lot of this, and my mind couldn't help but think that he's based off of more than just a normal card soldier. With what we've seen and heard about him, I think Cater might be at least loosely based off of Cinderella. Two sisters who run him ragged, views the school (which is a castle) as an escape, and hides his pain behind a smile and a good attitude. The few times we've seen Cater's happy mask slip off, it breaks my heart because this poor boy deserves better
I don't think we'll ever get to know exactly what's going on with him and how he really feels. We just get some sprinkles of info but they never give us the full story which is so sad because Cater is such an interesting character (like all of them) but we do not know him like we know the Diasomnias and Ignihydes
5:13 I think it's interesting how Cater was initially surprised that Lilia was able to answer a call from Sebek so quickly (albeit mid-conversation), in contrast to the next scene Yuurei showing how Lilia sees Malleus, Sebek, and Silver that they're family and feeling as though Lilia wouldn't be able to understand his experiences, but then immediately answering a call from Trey himself. It makes me wonder if Cater subconsciously sees Trey as family, but maybe I'm missing something.
So the Cater and Cinderella parallel/theory is something that I have seen floating around the fandom for a little bit now, with someone even leaving a comment about it under this video. There was a fanfiction that I was looking at that centered around his possible Cinderella association, and it had me thinking about the song and central theme of “A Dream is a Wish your Heart Makes,“ in the Cinderella movie. In the movie, after Cinderella stepsisters cruelly destroyed the dress the mice worked so hard to complete for her, thus ruining any chances of her going to the ball, she instantly was defeated, and breaks down. She no longer had it in her to believe in her dreams or wishes. Since Cater’s wish from the “Wish Upon a Star” event was included in this video, when thinking about it more, we learn that he has been making superficial wishes and not the wishes he truly wants - with Trey bringing specific attention to that in the scene that happens after he collects Cater’s wish. I don’t know if this is going to be considered a stretch or not, but I am wondering, if not too dissimilar to Cinderella in that moment/scene, that Cater does not believe or see any value in his true wish or wishes? Maybe that - paired with him being a closed book/guarded with his feelings - is another reason he did not share his true wish or wishes. Why bother sharing what he truly wants or desires if it is something he possibly believes won’t happen or won’t come true? Why bother getting his hopes up and/or opening up to someone about what he wants when there is nothing they can do about it and he’ll just be letting them in more in the process? Just a thought that I had. Until this day, I still feel so bad for Cater.
You do not know how excited I was when I saw this in my subscriptions upon its upload! I really love Cater! He is my top favorite character in my list of other favorites. I really want Cater to be happy as well at some point. I kinda have a couple of headcanons. The first one would be that in order for him to heal and actually be happy, at some point in his life, he’ll probably have to move out from his parents and be on his own. He can finally be able to set down roots somewhere, and actually just have a sense of permanence and forge bonds with people. Also, since his home life and relationship with his family is strained, there will be some distance between him and them. (I hope that does not sound bad.) And also hopefully get therapy because there are things that he does need help to work through. My second headcanon is that he has an avoidant attachment style, but I am no expert on the topic. I find psychology interesting and love hearing others discuss narratives and fictional characters through a psychological lens. I just learned about the avoidant attachment styles through information from actual psychologists and some things seem to line up with Cater, honestly. The moment between Trey and Cater from Cater’s wish is a moment I think about a lot. There is so much left unsaid with Trey and Cater, both together and separately. I do agree that it is likely because of the reasons that people are theorizing that Cater didn’t share his true wish. Poor Cater and Trey, honestly… Cater definitely comes across as character who is more introverted, but is good at acting more extroverted than he really is. I guess that is just another part of his facade… I am really looking forward to the eventual Trey and Cater relationship summary video and Trey’s history video! Speaking of those two, a relationship summary video between either Trey and Cater with Jamil would be interesting. If possible, and if you’re interested, of course! Thank you for another fantastic video!
When Cater revealed that his sisters define everything by cuteness I was expecting Lilia to express his desire to visit the diamond household for a convention being the Diasomnian mascot of cuteness. 😂 (Btw there is a theory that Cater used to the dorm leader of Heartslabyul but Riddle defeated him and took his place , something that fueled his hidden depression even more)

It looks like he's happy to stay in one place (away from his sisters) for once

He's been through ten schools, they start to get blurry
No point planting roots cuz he's gone in a hurry lmao
