Ok so I'm super familiar with that spot as I get my bait for the river there and have fished it for over 20 years and I'm 34 but I can tell you I have caught a pb flathead (54lb) in the first pool below the actual spillway, giant buffalo, my pb largemouth (10lb 60z), PB Black Crappie (1.8 lb), PB Yellow and Brown Bullhead all in the first pool below the waterfalls....I even accidentally snagged a spoonbill in the hole below the bridge after a flood. I've caught smallmouth and sauger down there in early spring and fall/winter but few and far between....crappie are stacked tho. Always try fishing after the water has dropped after a good rain...the fishing is awesome...and you can catch channels all day in the first pool as well by suspending cut bait 3ft down on a bobber in the current against the bluff....hope this helps..good luck
That’s incredible. You’re not the first person I’ve heard talk about PB they’ve caught below the spillway itself. Need to get back there and get to that spot.
@@ShowMetheHawgs yes it can be a good spot....I throw my cast net down there for bait for Big Blue Cats that I Started to target last year....I know some good bank spots on the missouri under and by the bridge in Chesterfield....I caught my PB Blue last year on 9/11..85 lbs...it on my other channel if you wanna take a look...th-cam.com/video/_d5CmDdw_AQ/w-d-xo.html
Technically, yes but I took my 4yo to Suson for a couple hours. Got skunked lol. Looking to get out tomorrow morning at Busch Wildlife for some fly fishing. Here’s hoping that goes better 🤞 🙏
@@ShowMetheHawgs good luck! I took the kayak to Simpson today and got some bass then took my oldest trout fishing after he got off of school and we got some nice ones.
That would be great but unfortunately it’ll have to wait until next year. I’m getting ready to leave St. Louis for the next year on assignment for my job. Sucks cause that is such an awesome spot.
I used to be a police explorer in Lake St Louis. Where the spill way is. Police station used to be above the start of it. And I've always been told it's illeagle to be down in there. Yet there is a easier way to get in there. Police station now on other side of town
I wasn’t aware of that. Multiple people (civilians from what I know) recommended that area. As long as you don’t fish the lake itself, you’re ok but I’m going off second hand info. I expected there’d be some snakes down there but thankfully didn’t encounter any. Probably too cold that day. I bet they were hunkered down somewhere warmer.
That's just what I've always been told about the spill way. Snakes and chiggers can get really bad in there. The deepest part of the lake is about 15 feet deep. If you want to see how much water goes over the spill way, look here in TH-cam "lake st.louis spill way. I've seen it get almost back to the level of where the lake actually is.
You should've walked up further I caught a 5 pound large mouth, some bowfin a pile of gar and a 15 pound carp further up the spillway earlier this year.
Yes. Definitely give it a shot sometime. Be careful though. While I haven’t seen them in my limited experience down there, I’ve been told there are snakes.
I remember driving over the bridge with my folks as a little kid and I remember seeing thousands of fish swimming up trying to get up the spillway to the big lake during some type of spawning season. Ever since then I've always wanted to get down there and see what type of fishing there was.
Theres a spill way at simpson park that connects the lake to the meramac and i tore it up using a bobber and worm caught 26 bluegill 3 large mouth and a gar. Its clean and and has easy access.🤟
This is definitely on my list, I’ve been striking out over at the Busch wildlife area. Have you ever fished along the Missouri south of I64? There’s a bunch of backwater there and a hiking/biking trail that runs right along the river.
I haven’t fished much of the Missouri. The only stretch I’ve fished is along Katy Trail (specifically the Greens Bottom Trailhead) near hwy 364. There are some creeks along there that feed into the river. Also, there are several wing dams along the trail I’ve been told have white bass, crappie and catfish around them. I haven’t tried those yet but it’s on the radar.
Used to walk down from bridge years ago set lines and catfish from levees. Caught many flats blues n channels n drum common up to 20-30 and few bigger ones . It's been 25-30 years though

Wait where I this place at bc I live in st.louis
Lake of St. Louis
Look up "lake st louis spillway over flowing". You can be down there. From the bridge going north. From the bridge south is a no no.
👍
I used to be in the police explorers program there. And at 17 attempted to attempt suicide from that bridge.
When I was there, in the spillway, I saw a snake grab a minnow in it's fangs, take it back and eat it. Good spot
It's such a great spot. The one time I was there I didn't see snakes (too cold maybe) but I've been told to watch my step.

Could you send me the location of where you parked? Same issue.
If I remember correctly, I parked in a lot right next to the east end of the levy. Google maps says the building is Borengasser Law Office.
Thanks man! Tight lines.

Do you have a second channel if so what is the name of it.
I used to but don’t anymore. I shut it down after I came to the realization I can only support one channel.
