“Are you happy now?” From Spongebob Squarepants. The episode left me feeling shaken.
How 'bout Cat Blanc for how hard fall Cat Noir fell into despair being akumatized mistakenly destroyed all of Paris and everyone in it including the girl he loves and had to remain that way for weeks before time travel fixed all that
“Haunted” from Teen Titans remains one of my favorite episodes of the show. Granted, any episode with Slade is banger. “Aftershock”, “The End Trilogy”, etc.
Same it was just very memorable
I never liked those episodes because of some sadistic implications. I mean, Ghosts? Implied sexual abuse? Her getting revenge on said abuser? Giving birth to her own dad?! How the hell do you explain any of that to kids?! How?!
I liked that one episode where Terra died.
@@HandsomeVellz in my mind, she doesn't exist.
Haunted is a MASTERPIECE, and was an incredible and tragic allegory for PTSD and Trauma.
"Whoa, that Static Shock episode about school shootings was pretty intense."
Watchmojo: You know what's _more_ intense? Phineas and Ferb getting busted by Candice!
Fr💀
They didn't really go into how zombified Phineas and Ferb were. The episode was dark. It wasn't just that they were caught. Only ep I really remembered watching on list, except for Captain Planet.
@@trinitybernhardt9944 But it was all a dream. And it's not like they were dead or something.
But a kid showing up to school, confronting a bully and shooting a kid in the leg? That's not just dark, that is way too real, even back when that episode aired. I remember being surprised that CN let them push the envelope that much.
That is true. Though the impact on kids... it isn't always as important as to realism for kids. That hits us adults harder.
Aren't they Americans? If so then that'd explain it
Everyone hated Squidward as a kid only to end up being exactly like him as an adult
I didn't hate him. I empathize with him. I guess that's why I turned out so positive?
Literally
Not at all I hated spongebob and patrick and felt bad for him
@jimjimjimmy "that's now how you're supposed to play the game"
Not me, I actually loved Squidward but I didn't turn out like him
"Haunted" from Teen Titans is the best episode of the show for me , Slade's voice was like in an terror movie
Agreed my favorite episode.
That episode was awful!
Ron Perlman knows how to be a creep or a villain extremely well. But he can also be a caring individual in other shows and films, like Hellboy and Conan the Barbarian.
@@cookscreativecorner gave me nightmares
@@cookscreativecorner next time, I'll put a cross over my bed
squidward will remember this for a long time and so will we 😭
When I first saw that episode, I just (somehow) knew that he was just pulling up a scallop cage.
The end of the episode were squidward goes on a rampage tearing up apart many spongebob copies sounds scary
Whew Squidward really went 100% crazy 😨😨😨
It's not that bad because it was the only way to get him out of depression and make him have the energy he needs.
@@cleatusmartin1123 Well, at least he felt something again.
I think Dexter’s Lab, Powerpuff Girls, & Courage the Cowardly Dog all have darker episodes than the ones you put on the list.
Indeed.
Definitely
Courage The Cowardly Dog was a Dark Show In general. Every episode had something off about it, I loved every second of that show.
Practically any of HIM's stand-alone episodes are great contenders for PPG, however, in Speed Demon things went up to eleven, even by the standarts of HIM.
Also Gravity Falls. It's a pretty dark show for Disney's standards, but the Weirdmageddon episodes take the cake.
The dark truth is that Squidward has depression.
How can Squidward forget his 'sweet victory' at the Bubble Bowl?!
@@kittylover62 You mean Band Geeks? Yeah, how come Squidward forgot?
I Blame the writers for making that messed up episode
@@gerardgarcia8501 Yeah! They have no right to make a dark episode of any cartoons.
Well
it’s their art, some have reasons, others do it because they like it and they’re running out out ideas(Modern Spongebob)
Tom & Jerry's "Heavenly Puss" episode has some pretty dark stuff. I think the darker thing are the drowned kitten. I didn't got it when I was a kid and watched the show, but now hits pretty hard.
The whole damn thing turns out to be a bad dream, but it doesn't even save the episode for being incredibly dark.
Is that the one where Tom dies for like 5 seconds but goes to heaven but the Angel tells him he wasted his whole life chasing one mouse, so if he got a signed apology accepted he could get in, what ended up happening was Jerry was being stubborn af even when Tom explained and then he ripped up the paper
@@DrippleDragon yep.
@@u.g.3298 ohh okay, cause fr they’ve had a couple episodes with the situation of Tom goes to hell or something a personal creepy episode of mine was when The Mouse from the factory got out and it was a nuclear bomb, so Jerry dressed up as the mouse to scare Tom so when he seen a white mouse he kicked it and blew tf up
I actually laughed out loud at the drowned kittens joke.
It's so freaky seeing human on human violence in Ben 10, especially a grown man actually punching the teenaged main character.
Edit: Kinda makes Ben cooler for taking it like a champ and getting a few good hits in despite not being in alien mode.
I thought that
I'll never forget the "beer episode" from 'Tiny Toons Adventures.'
haha me too, must seen it before it was banned
I laughed as a kid cuz I always knew beer was nasty.. Now here I am 37 drinking beer 🤦🏾♂💯
I think it has been mixed for those who know that episode. I know for myself and a few others, it wasn’t until more recently when you have individuals talking about the episode since we didn’t get the chance to watch it when it was on-air.
I think the reason that episode is controversial is because you've got to take these kinds of issues seriously.
@@andrewthompson6453 Actually, they showed reruns as recently as 3-5 years ago. I saw it while I was channel hopping.
"Same as it Never Was" is the one TMNT episode I refuse to see because of how dark and traumatizing it is
OMG! Yes! I remember when I first watched that episode I was so shocked afterwards!
Insane inn the membrane is also dark and disturbing too
Actually, I think the "Invader Zim" episode where Zim puts Dib in a false reality where Dib is actually successful, respected and admired just to get Dib to admit to throwing a muffin at him in the cafeteria is WAY darker...
Or the episode where Zim literally steals people’s organs
What about the Xmas episode?
Dark harvest is also an equally dark episode
@@DrippleDragon That is their #1.
The time travel episode is also pretty disturbing.
As a kid I never knew how dark some of these episodes were
Now that I’m an adult, I’m glad I didn’t get scarred for life
I remember back in the day Tom and Jerry had a couple really scary ones when I was a little kid. And of course Ren and Stimpy.
Yeah, like the one where Tom dreams about dying and winding up in Hell or the one with Tom & Jerry sitting on a railway with completely dead-inside expressions waiting for a train to run them over.
"The Return of Hydro-Man, Part II" from Spider-Man: The Animated Series was pretty dark too. The moment of Mary Jane's clone dying is very sad, dark and heartbreaking.
Agreed, that episode hit me like a punch to the stomach. Along with the episode of Captain Planet listed here and Tiny Toon Adventures, it was one of the few times I was moved emotionally by a cartoon series.
SpongeBob: “So, What’s YOUR Happiest Memory, SQUIDWARD?”
Squidward: “Um.., Let Me Think.” 🤔 📺
ONE of THE Best Darkest Children’s Cartoons Ever!
Agreed. I actually really like that episode because it does a good job portraying depression and for once Spongebob actually tries to help him feel better and doesn’t do it in his stupid, childish ways, he actually does it like a truly concerned friend would. 🧽🐙
Invader Zim was such an awesome show. Honestly, and I may sound old, but cartoons used to be so much better. Sure you have adventure time and the regular show but those are the exception. From the Looney toons to late 90s early 2000s Nick and Disney was the peak of cartoons imo. Where greatness was not the exception but the norm.
Im kind of surprised that Stonehedge from spongebob wasnt mentioned. That episode really disturbed me when I was younger.
The Bikini Bottom burried in time and the only memory of this land that remains are the stonehedges that Old Spongebob made.
Nickelodeon should have cancelled the show after that episode perfect ending
Stonehenge always disturbed me too. It was like, the first disturbing one that actually got me. The only super creepy one before that was ‘I was a teenage Gary’
Can someone greenlit the "Top 10 Most Evil Cartoon Villains"? I'm looking for Complete Monsters (look it up on TV Tropes). Don't give me ones that are not on that trope like HIM and Azula. Here's the rundown of what I got.
The Lich - Adventure Time
General Morando - 3Below
The Joker - DC Animated Universe
Bill Cipher - Gravity Falls
Prince Kalmaar - Lego Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu
Dr. Robotnik - Sonic the Hedgehog (SATAM)
Lord Marmoo - Kulipari: An Army of Frogs
Twin Masters - Hero 108
Zhan Tiri - Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure
Shredder - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003)
Add Azula from Avatar
Can you add HIM from the Ppg (1998)
YES
Also, Dark Danny - Danny Phantom
@Shane Page He doesn’t count.
What makes Dark Harvest darker is the fact that it indirectly led to the rise of a serial killer. A viewer by the name of Delesky outright admitted in a courtroom that he was "fascinated with organs", and wondered "how the human body would function without certain organs." There are only two kinds of people who would use those phrases: psychopathic killers and biologists who study human organs (the latter likely won't use the second phrase unless their research says otherwise).
“Game Over” is a much darker episode of Reboot. Enzo getting his eye slashed and losing the game haunted me as a kid. Dot’s scream at the end…
in the 80's and 90's are more "physical" and violent" Dark episodes Now a days it's more mental emotional dark.
Until today "The puppetmaster" from Avatar still the most scary and dark episode on the show

I wouldn't exactly call Bloodbending an evil, it's all how it's used. It's just that the only times that we see it used, is for selfish or evil purposes.
It's good thing Katara that banned it in legend of Korra because waterbending shouldn't be use for such Darkness
@@Solbankai66 Katara* banned*. And like I said, a technique is only as good or evil as the user using it. For example *bloodbends a criminal to allow cops to subdue him*

The problem with power like that is, if you have that power, where do you draw the line? When is it okay to take away a person's autonomy? What gives you the right to decide when taking someone's autonomy away is okay?
I'd like to think I'd make good choices with power like that, but you know what they say, power corrupts. That kind of power would be remarkably easy to abuse.
@@Diolki800 100% true. Look at Deathnote. At first Light used it to kill criminals. Then he became power hungry and declared himself as a god. And yeah, murder is murder, even if it helps eliminate the worst criminals or wealthy businesspeople who care only about themselves.

Angelica's Worst Nightmare scare the hell out of me as a kid, but now I just laugh at it because it's so goofy and tame compared to the rest. Also, that baby having purple lips disgusted me back then, and it still does.
Dark Harvest was my favorite Zim episode, next to the boot camp one and the movie. Loved hearing Zim complain about that one organ that I can't spell. It made me laugh a bit too much.
You guys keep missing out on the swat kats!!
A bright and shiny future: the pastmaster sends our heroes to a dystopian future where mankind gets over taken by the metalikats and robots, our heroes learn from callie Briggs that they died after their plane crashed into the mayor's tower during an air fight

Razors edge: after chasing darkkat in the skys of megakat city one of our heroes Jake fires 2 non explosive missiles that darkkat manages to avoid and have crash into a shed that he rigged with C4! Once exploded two "civilians" appeared to be injured causing our hero Jake to not only doubt himself but to also fall into depression and no matter how hard chance tried to cheer him up Jake couldnt let go of what happened until the end of the episode
"Even the good guys can get doubtful and depressed"
Please include these two episodes next time
The Freak of Crystal Cove from Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated to me was the darkest, Fred learns that Mayor Jones is not only the freak, but not his father and he's actually a kidnapped Child and the gang is split up in the end.
The Same As It Never Was actually makes me cry every time. I have two brothers myself and the 2003 TMNT series nailed the brotherly bond aspect. So seeing the brothers (except Donn) all die hits hard. And seeing Raph crawl to Leo’s dead body shows how much he still loved him. But knowing Raph never got the chance to apologize or make peace with Leo breaks me every time.
Also, Failsafe from Young Justice was so bleak. It was one of my absolute favorites.
Both shows was supposed to be mature but not that mature.
@@chadkennedy7855 Maybe. But I like it when cartoons are allowed to have a darker tone. Episodes like that stand out to me in the best way. So you don't see me complaining when cartoons get really mature.
@Angie Reyes I had no idea.
I remember the first one listed (Fairly odd parents) really gave me an existential crisis as a kid and still pops up in my head as a now 23 year old 😅
You should have included "Growing Pains." In that episode, Robin meets a lost little girl and she essentially dies at the hands of Clayface and there is nothing he can do to either prevent or undo that.
Right😢
Speaking of Batman: The Animated Series episode "Appointment In Crime Alley" is still a pretty heavy episode to watch. When Batman is late coming to assist Jim Gordon and the GCPD in a raid on a drug lord's warehouse, a gun battle takes place and Gordon is nearly killed as a result.
I can probably think of many other dark cartoon episodes that could've been on this list:
1. One Flu Over the Loud House from The Loud House
2. The Joy from The Amazing World of Gumball
3. The Great Fusilli from Courage the Cowardly Dog
4. Nasty Patty from SpongeBob SquarePants
5. Power-Noia from The Powerpuff Girls (1998)
6. Speed Demon (also) from The Powerpuff Girls (1998)
7. Mother Simpson from The Simpsons
8. The Mad Doctor from the black and white Mickey Mouse shorts
9. That's Life! from The Fairly OddParents
10. The Day the Edd Stood Still from Ed, Edd, and Eddy
One flu over the loud house is not that dark

I remember watching that Invader Zim episode as a child, multiple times, I loved it. It seemed fitting for something a Alien should do
That Captain Planet episode was pretty dark especially for the 90's. I didn't realize how dark until I was an adult.
4:07 Ultimate Alien was a surprisingly dark cartoon as a whole... This Stockholm Syndrome episode and Ben's resolve to kill Ultimate Kevin were high up there definitely
#11 really hits me deeply, ive been bullied by so many people, even the teachers picked on me, i always had thoughts of pulling a weapon out and using it on everyone who picked on me, not listening to reason as they try to talk me down, i keep the gun pointed at them, slightly shaking in my emotional anger and pain, and pulling the trigger, as the bullies lay dead, i keep shooting their bodies until the clip is empty.
the point of this is you have no idea what bullying can do to people, especially mentally, to me, if you want to be a bully, you signed your pathetic life away
Static shock- there was an episode where a guy and his sister were criminals, they were able to get the sister to turn an over a new leaf an go into the foster care. While the brother stayed a bad guy. They showed a scene of him transforming into this deformed purple monster- which caused him to be more violent (due to being mad about his appearance). That scared me so much as a kid.
Young justice- when Wally disintegrates in order to save the planet. Was dark to see and so heart breaking.
Why does everyone forget about the Best Friend episode of Zim, He literally rips a kids eyes out!
Spongebob can be a parent's nightmare. I'd characterize it as an adult cartoon beneath the childish theme.
Basically every episode of Ren and Stimpy had messed up imagery. But Ren’s Retirement really disturbed me as a kid.
Who would've thought that it took "guts" for Zim to pull that off?!
Absolutely wasn’t expecting the recognition of Reboot on this list.
That episode had me as a kid
Who else as a kid wanted more of these dark story lines?
That's one of the reasons i stayed up till like 6 am to watch adultswim. As a 7 year-old.

Okay, I did not expect to see Drab City from The Care Bears as an honorable mention. I'm happy to see the show acknowledged in some shape or form.
The Tom and Jerry episode about heaven and hell scared me as a kid, nd haunted me for months.
I blame Did for planting haunting thoughts into Zim's head that started all of this.
But what's weird is that I've watched these episodes and I wasn't scared in the slightest, or that it didn't gave me any nightmares.
I dunno why I laughed so hard when he said Teenage Mutant Ninja Dead Guys but its freaking hilarious as
To think Robin was obsessed with seeing a former military merc gone for good, that's crazy
For "Are You Happy Now?", Squidward's depression did kinda get resolved - he took out his anger on cardboard spongebobs that Spongebob made to try and cheer him up. Besides, Squidward did say he felt much better
And it got banned ever since
The episode where Spongebob tries to give Squidward a happy memory is a good one, because Squidward is my favorite character.
10:00 You forgot to mention, the three kittens arrive in a bag knowing they were drowned.
Can't tell which is worse for courage, the trumpet monster or that episode with "return the slaaaab~". I'm glad CGI have improved greatly since then
The "heavenly puss" episode scared the crap out of me as a little kid.
When i was a kid , "The puppetmaster" episode was so dark and creepy than i didn't watch again for a long time , everything about this episode is dark , especially the final scene
Blood bending?
I wanted the witch to die.
Damn... talk about downbeat ending.
One episode that I think should've been on here is No Such Luck from The Loud House. While it's not quite as dark or creepy as the other episodes on this list, it still holds a GREAT deal of controversy amongst the LH fanbase.
Long story short; after attending SCORES of his ten sisters' after-school activities, Lincoln tries to have some quiet time at home. But he's instead forced to attend his sister, Lynn's baseball game; who threatened to use a bat on him if he didn't comply.
During the game, Lynn's team loses and SHE claims it "only happened the minute Lincoln came." After that, he's treated as bad luck by Lynn; who does everything in her power to keep the rest of the family away from his "bad mojo." Lincoln gets the smart idea to use this as a means of gaining some me time...only for it to backfire on him in the worst of ways.
He's kicked out of his home, kicked out of his DOG'S house, tricked into believing his parents destroyed his bed to "burn away the bad luck" and he's forced to make an apology to them; making him a town laughingstock...but the family refuses to give him the time of day.
In the end, he sneaks into another one of Lynn's games by wearing a mascot costume and she ends up winning. After that, the family believes Lincoln IS good luck...but only while wearing that dumb suit. Needless to say, this episode was one of many that generated a lot of dark fan content

4:05 I've never seen that episode, but what I see here is an accurate representation. Most of the pain of depression doesn't comes from the depression. It comes from the people around you insisting that you're not good enough, that they need to fix you, and they deserve the credit for having done so. Most of the reason I'm such good friends with other people with depression is the acceptance. You never have to explain yourself, or account for the fact that it's been a week and circumstances have changed but your mood hasn't. That's not to say we don't encourage each other to keep doing the work, but when the formula doesn't produce what the non-depressed say it should, there's no added guilt and rejection for failing to cure yourself.
Holly Jolly Secrets was one of the series' turning point where after those episodes, Ice King wasn't portrayed as rhe princess stealing villain anymore, but more of a distant companion, there are moments even where finn and jake would sometimes call Ice King "Simon"
Poor Simon. 😑
That is why he wants to steal princesses, because Simon used to call Betty his princess. Love can truly hurt💔
I think "the Mask" is the darkest episode of Courage. If the scene where Bunny gets raped isn't strong enough evidence, then clearly you never watched the whole show
That's a thing?!
@@TheFellersOfficial Yep! It's hinted. In the scene where Bunny tries to escape, she's halted by Mad Dog's henchmen. The dialogue is:

Please do Top 10 Darkest Peter Rabbit Episodes eventually. There's a LOT of episodes to choose from.
My favorite cartoon I grew up with was X Men the animated 90s series and it was like a soap opera with action scenes.
The darkest episode that really caught me off guard was the season 5 premiere of MLP FiM. Don't get involved with cults, kids.
one of my favorites is "future tense" from disney gargoyles, sure the show was already pretty dark at times but that was a whole new level: we find out two of the main characters disapeared for 40 years, their city is in ruins under the dictatorship of their main enemy, another main character died in the hands of said enemy, another is blind, another is more machine that gargoyle, the villain freaking murders his child in cold blood, not to mention the amount of deaths in this episode, and (spoiler free) aparently, all just because their leader left
Invader Zim was on a league of its own.
Out of all the Avatar episodes that one left me the most shook and I was like "whoa whoa whoa whoa what did I just watch?!"
Only thing here: Danny Phantom The Ultimate Enemy it wasn't an experiment gone wrong. Danny cheated by stealing the answers to his CAT test. His family, friends, and teacher met at the Nasty Burger over it and there was an accidental explosion that killed them all, making Danny see the whole thing as his fault. That's one of the key points that made it such a heavy episode, a 14 year old feeling like he killed everyone he loved and wanting to get rid of that pain.
All the episodes on this list didn't give me even ONE nightmare. Bring it on!
I don't think this is dark enough to be on here, but the one episode of Spongebob where the new guy in Spongebob's boating class wanted to beat him up just for saying hi to him has always creeped me out.
Unfortunately there are some people out there who would be that crazy as SpongeBob's classmate.
@@melissacooper8724 That's true.

The Invader Zim episode was the most darkest kids show episode I've ever seen.
The one where they were turned into human hotdogs was darker 💯💯💯
Do you even want to know the worst part? I heard that Dark Harvest was the inspiration for a real life murder, where a teen broke into his neighbor's house, bashed her head and harvested her organs, all because he was fascinated with the concept of a human living without organs; unfortunately, the dude was a teen at the time so he got a lighter sentence and I heard he's eligible for parole in 2023. The concept and execution of Dark Harvest is dark enough, but being cited as inspiration for a real life murderer's disturbing ideas? Tell me why on earth it wasn't removed from Nickelodeon the moment it premiered?
This list changed my life and I'm not even kidding before this list came out I had no idea that the Static Shock episode "Jimmy" existed and because of that I now have a youtube account, made a friend, created a new obsession, and maybe Jimmy Osgood will star in something new.
The sad part is...stories like Jimmy from Static Shock are STILL happening in the real world today, many of which involve ant-Asian hate crimes

I personally feel the zombie magician episode of Powerpuff girls was rather traumatizing. That episode always creeped me out. The dude died in a spiked coffin type thing. Freaked me out.
That courage the cowardly dog episode gave me nightmares as a kid
"The series finale of Courage haunted many children" bruh I'm a grown ass adult and I'm still haunted by this episode
At 5:15 "Same as it never was" I remember rewatching it after a while and it was heartbreaking and seeing all the turtles except for Donnie die broke my heart I am just so happy it didn't traumatize me (sorta)
With Reboot we actually didn't find out what happened to Bob until about ⅔rds of the way through Season 3.
Was this the same episode Sprite lost his eye and got trapped in the game?
I knew the scene with Squidward hanging up the noose would be in here 😬
Lil Buddy episode from Clarence should be in this list, it brilliantly shows the loneliness epidemic that people feel.
can we talk about how in that episode of tom and jerry or at least i think its that one, there's a bag of kittens floating down a river and into heaven insinuating a drowned bag of kittens
In the captain planet episode, Linka never willingly took Bliss till she was addicted to it by her cousin giving her an intentionally laced sandwich.
As a 19 year old I remember the Phineas and Ferb episode very clearly
I remember being so shook up after watching the turtles die. I LOVED that show when I was younger and seeing them die 😳😭
That "Are you Happy now?" episode of SpongeBob SquarePants led the creation of one of the scariest creepypastas, Squidward Suicide. *Shivers*
It’s not exactly scary as much now, but I could imagine a lot of people were creeped out by it back then.
Squidward is a character we can all relate to.
yep
When you get to keep an episode of harvesting organs, but not able to teach kids about the dangers on alcohol
I totally agree with all of these especially with Dark Harvest from Invader Zim I remember having nightmares for weeks after I first watched that episode so it definitely deserved to be #1
Good job This is So Amazing
