Trainspotting tip: you can tell the difference between the MP54 (5400 hp) and the MP40 (4000 hp) by the vents on the roof. The MP54 has two sets of big vents like (0:29), the MP40 has just one (4:35). The F59 (3000 hp) is clearly distinct (6:38). Due to its lower power, it's usually limited to 6 coaches per locomotive.

Not exactly, the F59PH on the Toronto-London train is currently 1 F59PH on a 10 car set due to a double header ban by GO transit, meaning it still has potential on 10 car sets but other than that it would be on 6 car sets because GO Transit being GO Transit.

@@GamingRailfanner I said usually, not always. GO transit prefers to have at most 6 cars per F59, but they are permitted to pull up to 10

I never noticed the difference in vents! Good catch there, thanks for sharing!

Another major difference between is that the f59’s are numbered 557 to 564(?), while the mp40’s are 600-666. Mp54’s are 667+.
The mp40 also wears the classic green (except for 607, 662-666)

@@torontoareatransit8123 Yep! 647 is also an MP54; it was the MP40 that was rebuilt as an MP54 in Boise.

Love the E-bells on the VIA train at 22:00 and 29:23! Reminds me of the @UTAride Frontrunner's cab car bells.

Why is it only The Canadian that travels so slowly in and out of Union Station? Does it have a special speed restriction?
