hahaha! the smash bro’s hype reactions are definitely comprised of nothing but screaming once the actual character is revealed. i guess ever since etika’s actual hype for the characters became so infectious, everyone started trying to be as hype as he was.
As a die hard Nintendo fan, it’s so weird to me to see someone say “I didn’t know ______ was in Smash Bros!” or “Who is this character?!” Not saying that’s a bad thing in the slightest.
Seriously lol I haven't played tons of the source material for these characters. Especially the older titles but I still recognize every single one of them lol
I feel the same! I'm equally ignorant about characters from things like Gears of War or Uncharted who aren't featured on the box art, but I've picked a lot up aside from focusing on Nintendo, but I guess that's just my obsession lol
Frankly I love the fact that somebody with no prior knowledge of Metroid and "Ridley is too big for Smash" can still be hype as fuck watching the Ridley reveal trailer, it really shows that Sakurai and Nintendo are really good at building that hype.
When Sakurai made the decision to make EVERYONE in Smash, it was a BIG deal for the Smash community! Prior to Ultimate, most of the roster couldn't come back either due to hardware limitations or they couldn't reuse the rights in time.

@@EskChan19 well technically yink was the superior link in melee... Tink was the replacement for yink in brawl. I mean you don't really need both at the same time and most of us just assumed that tink is what yink became in brawl.
Shade Pizza Actually, it’s more because Pichu plays too much like Pikachu & Young Link was the same for Link at the time. Now he and Toon Link play alike.
The reason why the characters of Dragon Quest look like they're straight out of Dragon Ball is because Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball, has worked as a character designer for numerous games, from Chrono Trigger to the Dragon Quest Series.
The Joker reveal was the most “out of left field” Smash announcement Nintendo has ever done. Absolutely no one knew about it and was randomly dropped at The Video Game Awards. Look up the reactions to the Joker Smash announcement. Fans were flabbergasted.
Remember that time the ENTIRE Nintendo Network crashed when Joker released because everyone tried to buy him at the same time and nobody could buy him for like a solid day after he released🤣
@@hdrissy well browser's height also varied depending on the game. I believe also Charizard is just 1,60m. So yeah they never really bothered with their canonical heights and weights.
@@tyrannapusandfriends6254 id say it's not a bad recovery but yeah, if you went by canonical abilities zard should easily have the best recovery in the game. And mewtwo should have been a heavyweight. BTW Ridleys also lighter than Samus ingame... The characters in smahs don't really follow their canonical properties. I mean it's a fighting game. All characters should feel natural standing next to each other and you of course want to have things as balanced as possible.
I'll just tell you this. Masahiro Sakurai is a legend who gives his all to his fans. He overwork himself to make sure things are done correctly and on time. You'll notice him saying that he's tired. We all love him for the fun we had back then and now. I literally want this man to rest and delay some dlc characters so he's at full strength and healthy. @@allenholloway5109 I doubt it'll be the last Smash. They'll keep making them as long as they can keep making money with them. But with the Smash having come this early in the Switchs Lifespan, i hope he can have a good ong rest before the next one on the next console.

@@allenholloway5109 if I remember correctly he was going to retire from making more smash games. nintendo drops a bomb saying a new smash was being made for the wii u and 3ds(I think or maybe the switch). This basically forced him back into making more smash games. He also has a hard time giving the rights to smash to someone who can give there all to the fans and be as dedicated to games as he is. I think he might have had someone at one point but that person died.(this i have to reresearch again)

On the Nintendo side, you look at the rest of the industry and all you see are daring, mature, graphically out-of-this-world, genre-defining and generation-defining titles for the BIG boys, completely overlooking all the garbo that goes on there. Then from the PS/Xbox side, you see Nintendo- a company that doesn't need graphics to be gorgeous, doesn't need narratives to have engaging plots, doesn't need to go wild and daring and mature to appeal to everyone and just have a damn fun and creative time, whether alone or with your buddies, completely ignoring the garbo online and Mario 3D All-Stars types of debacles. As a brilliantly-written character once said, "Perfectly balanced, as all things should be."
DeeBee, you gotta understand why it was so hype. The reveal was disguised as a Splatoon* fakeout. So when the reveal happened, it gave us 3 pieces of info: 1. Obviously that Smash was coming. 2. Link had his BotW outfit, so the characters were most likely going to be recent iterations. 3. Inklings were confirmed as new characters. Then from there all the showcases showed we were getting all the characters from the past, which meant all the copyright and licensing issues were ironed out for this game. As well as getting new characters like Ridley, Ken, Incineroar, etc.
@Nhat Anh Hoang Everything about Cloud and Joker's reveal was about collabs from their respective games. It didn't say Smash x Persona Q2 or Smash x Final Fantasy Explorers. It was Persona 5 and FFVII, both of which were not ported or playable on a Nintendo Console until long after its initial release and Persona 5 isn't even on the Switch. Persona music from Games 3-5, none of which were ever on a Nintendo console. Stages from their respective games, Midgard and Mementos, while also including cameos from characters outside of spin-offs.
@Nhat Anh Hoang Persona 5 Scramble was released years after Joker was announced on Smash similar to FFVII finally being on a Nintendo console years after Cloud's inclusion in Sm4sh. There has been no official rule for Nintendo platformers only. The only official rule that Sakurai himself has stated was that Smash newcomers have to originally come from a video game, which he said in response to Goku requests.
@Nhat Anh Hoang And again, Scramble wasn't released until 2 years after Joker made it into Smash similar to how FFVII wasn't playable until 5 years after Cloud's inclusion. And even then, Persona as a main franchise still hasn't even been ported onto Switch. It's the reason why his reveal was hype because people thought it might be a port. Do you think Sakurai just sat in a room and went "Oh Gee, it's a good thing that Joker was released on a spin-off series on a dying console, otherwise I can't include him " rather than him just adding him because Persona 5 is just a game? Or "Thank GOD Cloud appeared for a split-second in a spin-off game where he isn't the main focus otherwise I can't wait to still have legal trouble with Square-Enix over this technicality". The man himself said they just have to be a video game character, I don't need to give you a list of unrelated third parties when Sakurai himself has stated it. I don't see an official statement anywhere else that states they have to be on a Nintendo platform.

The most interesting part of this video is it makes me realize how many jokes and references are in the Smash trailers. So many things you won't understand unless you 1. Play the games the characters are from. 2. Kept up to date on the Smash news cycle. I started to notice because every time you didn't laugh at a joke, or get surprised or opinionated about an announcement I started to get this weird awkward feeling from the silence.
It’s so refreshing and cool to see an outside perspective on smash!! A lot of smash players are spoiled and criticize everything about smash bros. I dare say as a Nintendo fan you have really made me appreciate smash to its fullest again
Seeing someone who has zero familiarity with Nintendo or Smash getting excited is heartwarming to me. I do wish you reacted to the “Sakurai presentations” which would’ve given you more context to the fighter announcements as they were announced.
While this is definitely fun to see, the one thing that’s too bad is watching these with the foreknowledge that these are Smash announcements. As you mentioned, Nintendo definitely enjoys misdirecting and trolling their audience... and some of the biggest hype in these announcements comes from the fact that people were surprised by them. As an example, the big reason why the Joker announcement was so huge was because of its appearance completely out of Smash context. That was aired in the middle of The Game Awards show without any pre-knowledge, so viewers were like “Oh, is there some new Persona game or something?” Nobody knew it was Smash until that envelope turned around and revealed the Smash logo... of course, everyone lost their collective minds at that point! This was the first added DLC character to boot, and it was a character from a third party developer whose game wasn’t even on the Switch console... so the secondary hype came from the fact that this meant that the characters in the DLC to come could literally be ANYONE! Let the speculation begin on who else could be added... 😆
Exactly, that takes a lot of the actual excitement. Also most reveals have lots of memes (in form of which characters get matched up and in what way) going, which someone who doesn't know the chararacters will miss. Those memes raise the production value (which got already praised by Dee Bee Geek) even more. I'm glad he was genuinely interested and managed to actually get a lot of links. I'm honestly positively surprised. I didn't know Dee Bee Geek before and when I saw the video and clicked on it, I expected to either see someone who is completely ignorant on what he sees, or someone who knows the stuff already and is faking some reactions. I'm happy that I was wrong and how it turned out in the end. Though I think he should watch some reaction videos to understand even more how suprising some of those announcements were.
Yeah, I feel it would’ve been better if someone else gave him the links, and kept it all a surprise using the actual names of the trailers, for example “A New Seed” instead of “Steve Trailer”.
@@Alphie_ that's not necessarily a rule. An IP that's on a Nintendo console increases their chances, sure, though Nintendo and Sakurai can put whoever they want. They didn't state any rules, the community just made up some. Plus, no P5 games were announced or were on the Switch prior to the Joker reveal.

a big deal about the "everyone is here" e3 trailer is that people were still doubting that this would be a new game. many people assumed it would be a sort of "deluxe" port, like they did with mario kart 8, but it became so much more than anything anyone was expecting. a massive roster and stage list. no one cut from the list, like in previous iterations. characters that were cut and came BACK. all these + new characters. and theres STILL 4 more yet to be revealed, when the game came out nearly 2 years ago.
Those have been the most annoying fucks at the time. Literally a new name, different engine, art style, new content, and EVEN HOLDING AN INVITATIONAL TO SHOW OFF THE GAME and people wouldnt shut up about it being a port.
Seeing the Joker's trailer, you really have to appreciate as not only was Joker considered a third party, but Persona 5 was only on the PS4 and not on switch (yet?). Also that fact that that trailer was dropped DURING the Game Awards and so it was a huge surprise to everyone to see Joker. He really did steal that show that day.
He did appear in Persona Q 2 which was for the 3DS so he did have some correlation to work off to get into Smash. Even then Persona Q was already on the 3DS so Atlus/Persona had connections to Nintendo even before Sm4sh.
One other thing about that trailer too, the game awards were happening on December 6th, the day before the release of SSBU. People were in line waiting for midnight releases when Joker was announced.
The great thing about Isabelle's trailer was that everyone was anticipating a new animal crossing game, and sure enough after her reveal they announced Animal Crossing New Horizons
Makes me really happy to see someone who hasn't played Nintendo games since the NES be completely open to jumping back in. I think the Nintendo Switch is the perfect console because it has all the games you could want on a Nintendo platform and a ton of third-party support whether it be games or Smash Bros inclusions. I recommend looking at the showcase videos that Sakurai/Nintendo has done for all the DLC fighters. It will give you a taste of just how much detail is put into the characters and will also teach you how to use the characters.
@@NueThunderKing Agreed. However, they COULD still add Smash Run, Break The Targets, and Target Blast into the picture. Fairly unlikely for that to happen, unfortunately, but I'm just saying that these could be some finishing touches that they could add. But beyond that..yeah, I'm not sure what more they could do.

Ridley is from the Metroid games and a long requested character into Smash so it was a big deal when that reveal hit. I remember watching that live and alongside Snake coming back I was going nuts XD
It would have been so cool to see him react to the trailers with someone keeping the titles secret. A big part of the Smash experience in the trailers is not knowing who's coming.
Ridley is one of the staple Villains of Metroid. He is Samus' Nemesis, and he is responsible for her parents death amongst many other things. He's also way smarter than he looks.

@@tedthefullbringer260 Retro's portrayal of Ridley actually makes him seem lower down on the Space Pirate Food chain than in the main series where he's portrayed as being the leader.
This is such a cool perspective, I personally was part of the people who were really hyped for all of this but it's cool to see the perspective of an outsider looking in on the hype of the extremely passionate fanbase of the franchise just popping off and going crazy. It's honestly really fun to watch all the reactions different people in the community have when a big character is revealed, even when you yourself don't care who the character is.
A big part of what makes Smash reveals so exciting is that they happen in live presentations. We don't have video titles giving away who the character is. We have no idea until the character is on screen.
@@swimmerofage2148 Eh, they all have very different builds so it would look weird for all of them to have the same animations. Can't really see Kat and Jorge doing the same moves. I could see Master Chief and Noble Six though. Or maybe Master Chief and the costumes are different MK's of the suit.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate is a definite must have for the switch dude. There's plenty of things you can do to see how characters work and different ways to play the game.

@@tuxedobird yeah, I feel like that's more a problem with the series rather than the characters who wind up in smash. Of the mc in fe (the ones most likely to make it to smash) 80 % use swords primarily and 93 %use them as a their secondary wep.
Technically you missed two character reveals. During the Direct where Simon and Ricther were revealed, Chrom from Fire Emblem and Dark Samus from Metroid were revealed as Echo Fighters. Both characters were highly requested (Sakurai himself said so).
Yes. People wanted Dark Samus for years (especially to get another Metroid rep). As for Chrom, so many people wondered why he wasn’t added to Smash 4 but Lucina & Robin were, especially since he’s more of a main character in Fire Emblem Awakening than Lucina was.

Terry was probably my favorite reveal. Growing up I always played Metal Slug and some KOF So finally seeing an SNK rep was a treat I’m glad smash fans have accepted terry in the game
And King Of Fighter is both one of Smash's inspiration (a fighting game with characters from different franchises) and one of Sakurai's favorite games. Terry needed to be there

Sakurai put in a LOT of effort to make us happy, and judging by the quality of the Steve reveal they gave us recently, its clear he still is years later. He is massively dedicated to this series, and we love him for it. Ridley, for instance, was a HUGE character for the community. He had been the number 1 most requested character since before Melee was released, but the devs would always say that he was "Too big for Smash" as in his literal size. He's the antagonist of the Metroid games, Samus' number 1 Rival, he's the Joker to Samus' Batman, and he's basically a massive Space Pirate Dragon (and also sometimes a robot) so it was a huge deal to finally have him in the game after over a decade of requests.
@@Corridor3000 yep. A bit unrelated, but It was also Samus' first 3D appearance, while Melee was her second. Metroid Prime came out almost a year after Melee so her appearance in Melee was actually based off her appearance in Super Metroid (which is why Ridley is holding the Baby Metroid container in the Melee cinematic intro. It took me years to realize what that thing on Ridley's foot was)

The craziest thing about Ultimate imo is that it has such a huge roster and it's still relatively well balanced. There are so many characters that are competitively viable that you can do well in this game no matter what your playstyle is
Of course, no game is perfectly balanced, and even Ultimate has strong characters and a bunch of stinkers But dude. It has the biggest roster of the Smash franchise and is the most well-balanced one. That's such a giant accomplishment, to have over 75 characters and have them all pop from time to time in tournament clip compilations.
Also there is no “Broken characters in smash like. “Pikachu 64, Fox Melee, Metaknight Brawl, Bayoneta Smash 4” right now the only think we saw was pre patch olkmar

A reason smash works that I don't hear many people talk about is that nintendo fans tend to all play the same games. Nintendo has lived and died on their first party titles, which leads to many "must buy" games that everyone has to try at least once. That's why a simple logo will create massive amounts of hype, everyone knows what it is and has a reason to get excited. Xbox, and to a lesser extent playstation, rely heavily on third party titles to make money. This leads to several cliques in the community with little overlap. This is why the attempts at a crossover from both companies haven't worked as well as smash, it's hard to get everyone hyped when any random fan will only care about a few characters at most. On a side note: an effect of every nintendo fan being on the same page is that word gets around fast. If a new game comes, everyone will quickly know if it's good or bad and worth playing. Smash is one of those methods, as the game acts as a marketing stunt. This has lead to nintendo fans essentially adopting third party titles. Franchises like metal gear, sonic, mega man, pac-man, final fantasy, bayonetta, castlevania, persona, dragon quest, banjo kazooie, and SNK as a whole are technically third party, but they are treated like core franchises by fans because they respect them so much.
i miss reactions from the ny nintendo store. they always make me cry because i can feel the happiness just radiating from the videos. i know its not safe right now but i keep hoping someday soon maybe it'll start to be safer.
Meh, Master Chief is a Microsoft exclusive character. The only reason Minecraft got in is because it’s not just exclusive to Microsoft, even though they own it.
The context of the Joker trailer makes it one of the best. It was the game awards. One of if not the biggest video game celebrations of the year, and the host was talking about upcoming events, and suddenly the lights cut out in the middle of his speech. "Woah. What's going on???" he said, and as cheesy and plain as it was that he did know what was going on, it still added to the hype. Not to mention that the game awards in which this trailer was shown was the NIGHT before Smash Bros Ultimate Released. at midnight that night, Smash Bros would be open to the public, and they showed off their first DLC Character of Joker and it was, just fantastic.

@@BJGvideos and there is nothing to byleth. Its just another FE sword (and other weapons) fighter. All the other had at least a unique feature. (Arsen (joker),MP and random moves (hero) ,invincible move (banjo), KO gage(terry)). And what does byleth have? Nothing special.
@@Iheaili I always assumed that Link is a super humble guy who doesn't want to brag about his heroics. Which I think it has been proven because there are some times in the games where an NPC is like "thank the gods this[ *insert threat here* ] is gone!", and Link says nothing. I think that Zelda (all of them) want everybody to know about the hero, so she tells the story, but omits his name. Instead, she uses his titles (Hero of Time/Twilight/Hyrule etc.). Maybe that is why it's called the Legend of Zelda.

Dude I feel you, I got into Smash recently. February in fact. So I’m kinda sad I missed out on all the reveals and I’ve only got got see three reveals. Byleth, Min Min, and Steve. But now I know like everything about Smash and watching the old trailers gets me so hyped still.
Gotta invade the comment section as someone who played through Three Houses before the Smash announcement and was very happy about Byleth being added, even though I knew while watching that reveal people were gonna be pissed. I'm a big RPG person so Joker/Hero etc. being added was great for me even if that's not to everyone's tastes. I know Wii Fit Trainer is a strange character but they're fun to play (at least from my point of view). I mostly went through World of Light (Smash's story mode essentially) as the fitness trainer saving the world. Duck Hunt is also a fun character (well fun for me at least, probably not so fun for anyone playing against them since they have a few projectile attacks in play).
As a big Nintendo fan, it was really interesting to see your reactions! I also love how even though you don’t know a lot of these characters, you appreciated all the love and work that went into each character and what they bring to the game!
The thing with the Banjo reveal is, that the first two Banjo-Kazooie games were released and beloved on the Nintendo 64, but the studio that developed these and other legendary games, got bought up by Microsoft so Rare had to make Xbox exclusive games. But Microsoft, among others, messed it up, the Banjo game on Xbox 360 completely changed the gameplay. Rare lost their charm. The addition of Banjo in Smash brought him home to the console (and company) where he and Rare should have stayed
Nah Rare had potential on Xbox I think, but Microsoft went "D O K I N E C T S P O R T S" also still I gotta agree their people is not the same and their games are not as groundbreaking as they used to.
Ridley is the main villain of the Metroid series. He tried to murder Samus when she was three but her mother took the fatal blow, he then got bored and decided to torch the place with Samus’s father dying in the explosion. Samus has been seeking revenge and struggling with the trauma ever since.

When Sakurai made the decision to make EVERYONE in Smash, it was a BIG deal for the Smash community! Prior to Ultimate, most of the roster couldn't come back either due to hardware limitations or they couldn't reuse the rights in time.

The reason why the characters of Dragon Quest look like they're straight out of Dragon Ball is because Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball, has worked as a character designer for numerous games, from Chrono Trigger to the Dragon Quest Series.

And mewtwo should have been a heavyweight. BTW Ridleys also lighter than Samus ingame... The characters in smahs don't really follow their canonical properties. I mean it's a fighting game. All characters should feel natural standing next to each other and you of course want to have things as balanced as possible.
I'll just tell you this. Masahiro Sakurai is a legend who gives his all to his fans. He overwork himself to make sure things are done correctly and on time. You'll notice him saying that he's tired. We all love him for the fun we had back then and now. I literally want this man to rest and delay some dlc characters so he's at full strength and healthy. DeeBee, you gotta understand why it was so hype. The reveal was disguised as a Splatoon* fakeout. So when the reveal happened, it gave us 3 pieces of info:
1. Obviously that Smash was coming.
2. Link had his BotW outfit, so the characters were most likely going to be recent iterations.
3. Inklings were confirmed as new characters.
Then from there all the showcases showed we were getting all the characters from the past, which meant all the copyright and licensing issues were ironed out for this game. As well as getting new characters like Ridley, Ken, Incineroar, etc.

Everything about Cloud and Joker's reveal was about collabs from their respective games. It didn't say Smash x Persona Q2 or Smash x Final Fantasy Explorers. It was Persona 5 and FFVII, both of which were not ported or playable on a Nintendo Console until long after its initial release and Persona 5 isn't even on the Switch. Persona music from Games 3-5, none of which were ever on a Nintendo console. Stages from their respective games, Midgard and Mementos, while also including cameos from characters outside of spin-offs.

Persona 5 Scramble was released years after Joker was announced on Smash similar to FFVII finally being on a Nintendo console years after Cloud's inclusion in Sm4sh.
There has been no official rule for Nintendo platformers only. The only official rule that Sakurai himself has stated was that Smash newcomers have to originally come from a video game, which he said in response to Goku requests.

And again, Scramble wasn't released until 2 years after Joker made it into Smash similar to how FFVII wasn't playable until 5 years after Cloud's inclusion. And even then, Persona as a main franchise still hasn't even been ported onto Switch. It's the reason why his reveal was hype because people thought it might be a port. Do you think Sakurai just sat in a room and went "Oh Gee, it's a good thing that Joker was released on a spin-off series on a dying console, otherwise I can't include him " rather than him just adding him because Persona 5 is just a game? Or "Thank GOD Cloud appeared for a split-second in a spin-off game where he isn't the main focus otherwise I can't wait to still have legal trouble with Square-Enix over this technicality".
The man himself said they just have to be a video game character, I don't need to give you a list of unrelated third parties when Sakurai himself has stated it. I don't see an official statement anywhere else that states they have to be on a Nintendo platform.

The most interesting part of this video is it makes me realize how many jokes and references are in the Smash trailers. So many things you won't understand unless you 1. Play the games the characters are from. 2. Kept up to date on the Smash news cycle.

Seeing someone who has zero familiarity with Nintendo or Smash getting excited is heartwarming to me. I do wish you reacted to the “Sakurai presentations” which would’ve given you more context to the fighter announcements as they were announced.
While this is definitely fun to see, the one thing that’s too bad is watching these with the foreknowledge that these are Smash announcements. As you mentioned, Nintendo definitely enjoys misdirecting and trolling their audience... and some of the biggest hype in these announcements comes from the fact that people were surprised by them. As an example, the big reason why the Joker announcement was so huge was because of its appearance completely out of Smash context. That was aired in the middle of The Game Awards show without any pre-knowledge, so viewers were like “Oh, is there some new Persona game or something?” Nobody knew it was Smash until that envelope turned around and revealed the Smash logo... of course, everyone lost their collective minds at that point! This was the first added DLC character to boot, and it was a character from a third party developer whose game wasn’t even on the Switch console... so the secondary hype came from the fact that this meant that the characters in the DLC to come could literally be ANYONE! Let the speculation begin on who else could be added... 😆
Exactly, that takes a lot of the actual excitement. Also most reveals have lots of memes (in form of which characters get matched up and in what way) going, which someone who doesn't know the chararacters will miss. Those memes raise the production value (which got already praised by Dee Bee Geek) even more.
I'm glad he was genuinely interested and managed to actually get a lot of links. I'm honestly positively surprised. I didn't know Dee Bee Geek before and when I saw the video and clicked on it, I expected to either see someone who is completely ignorant on what he sees, or someone who knows the stuff already and is faking some reactions. I'm happy that I was wrong and how it turned out in the end. Though I think he should watch some reaction videos to understand even more how suprising some of those announcements were.

a big deal about the "everyone is here" e3 trailer is that people were still doubting that this would be a new game. many people assumed it would be a sort of "deluxe" port, like they did with mario kart 8, but it became so much more than anything anyone was expecting.
a massive roster and stage list. no one cut from the list, like in previous iterations. characters that were cut and came BACK. all these + new characters. and theres STILL 4 more yet to be revealed, when the game came out nearly 2 years ago.
Those have been the most annoying fucks at the time. Literally a new name, different engine, art style, new content, and EVEN HOLDING AN INVITATIONAL TO SHOW OFF THE GAME and people wouldnt shut up about it being a port.
Seeing the Joker's trailer, you really have to appreciate as not only was Joker considered a third party, but Persona 5 was only on the PS4 and not on switch (yet?). Also that fact that that trailer was dropped DURING the Game Awards and so it was a huge surprise to everyone to see Joker. He really did steal that show that day.
He did appear in Persona Q 2 which was for the 3DS so he did have some correlation to work off to get into Smash. Even then Persona Q was already on the 3DS so Atlus/Persona had connections to Nintendo even before Sm4sh.

Makes me really happy to see someone who hasn't played Nintendo games since the NES be completely open to jumping back in. I think the Nintendo Switch is the perfect console because it has all the games you could want on a Nintendo platform and a ton of third-party support whether it be games or Smash Bros inclusions.
I recommend looking at the showcase videos that Sakurai/Nintendo has done for all the DLC fighters. It will give you a taste of just how much detail is put into the characters and will also teach you how to use the characters.
This dude has NO IDEA how insane this rabbit hole will get, neither did we, and it's not even over yet.
Won't be over until very late next year. Talk about a long run.

This is such a cool perspective, I personally was part of the people who were really hyped for all of this but it's cool to see the perspective of an outsider looking in on the hype of the extremely passionate fanbase of the franchise just popping off and going crazy. It's honestly really fun to watch all the reactions different people in the community have when a big character is revealed, even when you yourself don't care who the character is.

A big part of what makes Smash reveals so exciting is that they happen in live presentations. We don't have video titles giving away who the character is. We have no idea until the character is on screen.
So Master Chief is actually a possibility for Smash and I can't stop thinking about the fact that it actually might happen

Super Smash Bros Ultimate is a definite must have for the switch dude. There's plenty of things you can do to see how characters work and different ways to play the game.

Technically you missed two character reveals. During the Direct where Simon and Ricther were revealed, Chrom from Fire Emblem and Dark Samus from Metroid were revealed as Echo Fighters. Both characters were highly requested (Sakurai himself said so).

People wanted Dark Samus for years (especially to get another Metroid rep). As for Chrom, so many people wondered why he wasn’t added to Smash 4 but Lucina & Robin were, especially since he’s more of a main character in Fire Emblem Awakening than Lucina was.

so, as you can see, the roster of Smash Bros through its many titles has a bit of a history. Leading up to Smash 5, there was an amazing amount of arguments, discussions, and whatever else in between about what characters were getting cut this time, or which character we wanted back from this game, or who would be the newcomers this time. so, of course, when we saw Snake appearing in this trailer, and the words "EVERYONE IS HERE" show up on screen, it was a HUGE deal. Sakurai put in a LOT of effort to make us happy, and judging by the quality of the Steve reveal they gave us recently, its clear he still is years later. He is massively dedicated to this series, and we love him for it.
Ridley, for instance, was a HUGE character for the community. He had been the number 1 most requested character since before Melee was released, but the devs would always say that he was "Too big for Smash" as in his literal size. He's the antagonist of the Metroid games, Samus' number 1 Rival, he's the Joker to Samus' Batman, and he's basically a massive Space Pirate Dragon (and also sometimes a robot) so it was a huge deal to finally have him in the game after over a decade of requests.

A bit unrelated, but It was also Samus' first 3D appearance, while Melee was her second. Metroid Prime came out almost a year after Melee so her appearance in Melee was actually based off her appearance in Super Metroid (which is why Ridley is holding the Baby Metroid container in the Melee cinematic intro. It took me years to realize what that thing on Ridley's foot was)
That "WHAAAAAT?" during Joker's reveal was the voice actor's actual reaction to Joker getting into smash.

Dee, the Mii costumes don't add new moves, it's purely just a costume. There's a list of moves you can mix and match to personalize each fighter.

The craziest thing about Ultimate imo is that it has such a huge roster and it's still relatively well balanced. There are so many characters that are competitively viable that you can do well in this game no matter what your playstyle is
Pichu having the ear tips = Super Armor mechanic is so much better than Melee's version. Sometimes I actually pick Pichu because of that.
Of course, no game is perfectly balanced, and even Ultimate has strong characters and a bunch of stinkers
But dude. It has the biggest roster of the Smash franchise and is the most well-balanced one. That's such a giant accomplishment, to have over 75 characters and have them all pop from time to time in tournament clip compilations.

A reason smash works that I don't hear many people talk about is that nintendo fans tend to all play the same games. Nintendo has lived and died on their first party titles, which leads to many "must buy" games that everyone has to try at least once. That's why a simple logo will create massive amounts of hype, everyone knows what it is and has a reason to get excited. Xbox, and to a lesser extent playstation, rely heavily on third party titles to make money. This leads to several cliques in the community with little overlap. This is why the attempts at a crossover from both companies haven't worked as well as smash, it's hard to get everyone hyped when any random fan will only care about a few characters at most.
On a side note: an effect of every nintendo fan being on the same page is that word gets around fast. If a new game comes, everyone will quickly know if it's good or bad and worth playing. Smash is one of those methods, as the game acts as a marketing stunt. This has lead to nintendo fans essentially adopting third party titles. Franchises like metal gear, sonic, mega man, pac-man, final fantasy, bayonetta, castlevania, persona, dragon quest, banjo kazooie, and SNK as a whole are technically third party, but they are treated like core franchises by fans because they respect them so much.

The context of the Joker trailer makes it one of the best. It was the game awards. One of if not the biggest video game celebrations of the year, and the host was talking about upcoming events, and suddenly the lights cut out in the middle of his speech.
"Woah. What's going on???" he said, and as cheesy and plain as it was that he did know what was going on, it still added to the hype. Not to mention that the game awards in which this trailer was shown was the NIGHT before Smash Bros Ultimate Released. at midnight that night, Smash Bros would be open to the public, and they showed off their first DLC Character of Joker and it was, just fantastic.

@@Iheaili I always assumed that Link is a super humble guy who doesn't want to brag about his heroics. Which I think it has been proven because there are some times in the games where an NPC is like "thank the gods this[ *insert threat here* ] is gone!", and Link says nothing.
I think that Zelda (all of them) want everybody to know about the hero, so she tells the story, but omits his name. Instead, she uses his titles (Hero of Time/Twilight/Hyrule etc.). Maybe that is why it's called the Legend of Zelda.

Dude I feel you, I got into Smash recently. February in fact. So I’m kinda sad I missed out on all the reveals and I’ve only got got see three reveals. Byleth, Min Min, and Steve. But now I know like everything about Smash and watching the old trailers gets me so hyped still.

Gotta invade the comment section as someone who played through Three Houses before the Smash announcement and was very happy about Byleth being added, even though I knew while watching that reveal people were gonna be pissed. I'm a big RPG person so Joker/Hero etc. being added was great for me even if that's not to everyone's tastes.
I know Wii Fit Trainer is a strange character but they're fun to play (at least from my point of view). I mostly went through World of Light (Smash's story mode essentially) as the fitness trainer saving the world. Duck Hunt is also a fun character (well fun for me at least, probably not so fun for anyone playing against them since they have a few projectile attacks in play).

As a big Nintendo fan, it was really interesting to see your reactions! I also love how even though you don’t know a lot of these characters, you appreciated all the love and work that went into each character and what they bring to the game!
The thing with the Banjo reveal is, that the first two Banjo-Kazooie games were released and beloved on the Nintendo 64, but the studio that developed these and other legendary games, got bought up by Microsoft so Rare had to make Xbox exclusive games. But Microsoft, among others, messed it up, the Banjo game on Xbox 360 completely changed the gameplay. Rare lost their charm. The addition of Banjo in Smash brought him home to the console (and company) where he and Rare should have stayed
Nah Rare had potential on Xbox I think, but Microsoft went "D O K I N E C T S P O R T S" also still I gotta agree their people is not the same and their games are not as groundbreaking as they used to.
What I think is interesting about Banjo and Minecraft being added is that they’re both owned by Microsoft. I wonder what will happen next.

Ridley is the main villain of the Metroid series. He tried to murder Samus when she was three but her mother took the fatal blow, he then got bored and decided to torch the place with Samus’s father dying in the explosion. Samus has been seeking revenge and struggling with the trauma ever since.
