Authenticity builds trust in teams and in business. All due respect to May, just to add another perspective. If you come off so rehearsed and prepared, it also comes off that you care more about how you "look" to your seniors, rather than you really care and are passionate about your work. Instead of preparing these answers, focus on one or two values or goals in your work or company that really motivates you and is your driving reason to be there; represents your passion and what value you could potentially add to the team or organisation. Then when you see your senior leadership, speak passionately about one of those goals or values and give ideas to progress them if you have them

Can you give me, (Junior bacon Captain of gutter cleaning services at Amazon), an example of authenticity vs rehearsals? I mean I like cleaning gutters and stuff, it is Meaningful to see a job completed and knowing the water will flow, but I wouldn't say I'm passionate about bigger gutters and More debris.
Even if it is more money, and higher risk (the fatter the gutters the bigger the fall), I can't honestly be Websters "Authentic" over scraping crow shit, no matter the harvest.
      My Wells Lamont gloves tho...
      They're Tony the Tiger gr8.

Thanks so much, I found it helpful when you mentioned Beyonce as an example of making something look effortless

Thank you! This is extremely good advice. I see how someone can shy away from these conversations, especially if one feels a bit unprepared or lacking a good method of framing the conversation - but as you put it, practice makes a huge difference.

Faking it all the way. Performance art in real life until death.
What kind of human being are you then? A sociopath?
The real owners are the real bosses. Everybody else is the Employee. Be an owner, not an Employee.

good tips. i remember many times being in the same elevator with top managers i needed to try to make "small talk" that would make an impression.

This is fantastic. It helps existing managers getting to senior level and that’s exactly what I’m looking for. Appreciate the content

This is what I was looking for, though I would have appreciated examples to make it stick in my bad-memory mind 🤦🏽‍♀️

It’s simple ideas yet very important and it does take efforts to prepare them! Thanks foe the video.

I have a doubt. My boss often asks how is my mother brother or father. They are nowhere connected with the office. My boss being a subject matter expert talks nothing about the subject to me but always whenever he talks he talks informally to me. So how can i handle this issue where i dont want to discuss any personal details with him. Does directly telling him to stop asking about my personal details will be rude or what.

If they are just asking how your family is doing and creating a normal human interaction w you, then yes you’re a dick and your manager will take note of that lol
But if they’re being invasive and asking personal questions, simply say I don’t feel comfortable talking about that can we stick to business.

This is pure consequentialism, which is a wrong approach in teaching. If someone does not know how to handle senior management it does not mean "they are not ready to take on a top role" (rolls eyes), senior management are not Gods in heaven. They are human beings and they understand frailities just like anyone can. So please stop this innuendo and guilt shaming

GROW UP AND LEARN TO BE AN ADULT! Nobody is impressed by mediocrity. If you cannot get out of your shell and create a life for yourself, someone like that ends up sounding like you. In fact if that’s you YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF NOT WANTING TO BE BETTER! I wish I could delete your comment.
