I know you’re smart but I just want to say it to make me feel better - If you run your car at all, please always make sure your exhaust pipe is able to expel exhaust. If it’s buried in snow, it will back into the car. Many families die this way when they get stuck in snow. 😣 I know this is your life, I watch all your videos, I just had to say it for you or anyone else who maybe didn’t know🫣

As someone who loves the snow, I 100% see why you would park in the storm! I love all the thought you put into safety. You can tell you really think everything through. Sometime you gotta cook inside, no biggie. Not sure if it would help but a car cover or tarp may save you time cleaning off your car after snows like this so you can just pull off the snow. Hi Rosa, small life hack for car doors freezing up! Coat the door frame with either wax or bar soap to prevent door rubber seal from freezing to the frame. Glad you made it out safely. :-)
In northern europe we use silicone oil. Most gas stations/shops sell it in super small bottles. We put it on cloth and rub it in to stop it from freezing when it's -20 celsius, same logic.
YAY! TOTALLY the "true MVPs of winter!" I waved and thumbed up (thumbsed up? whatever.) EVERY plow driver I saw for the last three days. People complained, "Oh, I was late to work because I was stuck behind a plow driver. Myeh." And I'd just want to say, "Oh, and then what? Did you experience clear roads so that you could actually drive to work at ALL?" Hahaha oh boy. But yeah, the plow drivers kept our little Tahoe town functioning. Anyway, that was awesome! Snowstorm Shoveling Solidarity!
As per usual stupidity ran rampant, and they all came flying up here, wreaking havoc on HWY 80 with no chains or cables, no winter gear, not enough gas or no heat, no food etc. They disrupted our first responders and got in the way of our Plowers. But they need the views on their TH-cam Channel, so I guess it is ok, to disrespect our mountains, our towns, our locals and law enforcement and medics/firemen, harass our wildlife, throw their litter all over our mountains and beaches and treat us like crap. But they are entitled to be served first and get rescued in minutes of getting stuck! That we are in their way from skiing, how dare the resorts close due to unprecedented weather!!!
There was I , sat in my centrally heated apartment . looking out on a dull grey rainy ( cold lmfao ) day . Then the beautiful Rosa comes on , and lives through a blizzard lol. What a crazy inspiration lol xxx

Rosa I have been loving your videos. I recently came across your channel with the -33 weather and you had passed through Missoula which is about an hour from where I live. In three weeks. I am moving out of my apartment and starting my car living life. I then have 16 days left of work next month and then I’ll really be able to start. Thank you for being an amazing person and woman for showing me that it can be done. Keep doing what you’re doing, maybe one day I’ll see you out and about.

Haha, we bought 20 of those space-saving survival shovels for our fleet in Tahoe this year; but next year, we probably won't worry as much about saving space as saving our backs. haha

Yes, it IS fun! I always loved the fierce blizzards growing up in MI. Hint from on old Michigander: Always carry a spare set of keys in your pockets when you're going to be in a remote area in winter. If you dropped your only set in a deep drift, you may freeze before you find them.
As a fellow Philly native born and raised i can completely relate to your journey I recently decided to relocate my family of 5 to the country outside of North Myrtle Beach SC to escape the craziness of city living. My family used to spend most summers camping in the Pine Barrens of New Jersey we have always talked about traveling across the country once my kids are out of the nest. Always pursue your dreams life is too short

I was watching your -19 video. A little trick I use for those ultra cold nights is to slip my camp stove under my engine to heat up the engine and battery before I start my truck in the morning. All it takes is 10 to 20 minutes. I use a MSR backpacking stove I've had since I was a preteen. It is the second version of their first stove. It keeps working. If the height under the vehicle is too short, one can use a cast iron pan as a heat spreader. Note, my truck would easily start at -20F, but heating it up as cooked and ate breakfast nicer for it. Of course if you have an oil leak, you might not want to do this. Also my camp stove is white gas fueled, and pressure fed by pumping it up. Propane and butane loose a lot of heat output capacity due to decreased cylinder pressures in the extreme cold. Obviously combustion products may make it inside the vehicle. I always curled back up in my bedroll in the bed of my pickup if I wasn't cooking.
Woo HOO!!!! YES, Never Underestimate The Honda Element. I used to do this with my Element when I lived in Nebraska; it was how I "plowed" my driveway. Until that one winter...it snowed nonstop...I'd shovel and shovel and shovel, then the snowplow would come by to clear the street and snow me back in and I'd have to shovel THAT, and once I got everything all shoveled so I could get out of my (short!) driveway, the next snowstorm came. All Winter Long. We got one snowfall that would have taken me two weeks to shovel out myself; fortunately I got a guy with a tractor and a big board on the front to come and clear me out in two minutes -- paid him $10. SO worth it. You are brave in that little toaster.
When you couldn't open your door, i was almost hoping you'd have to crawl out the window 😂 But I'm glad you got out, you got your car cleared, and Elrond walked right over the snow like you were in Middle Earth. I miss the big snowfalls. I remember getting storms similar to this 10-15 years ago in the Midwest, but I actually enjoyed the shoveling and the massive drifts. Both of your meals looked fantastic, by the way. Stay safe, as always❤

Unfortunately a tarp or any cover definitely would've blown away. I couldn't even get my reflector poles to stay out in that wind!

In the olden days the plow driver used a VW Beetle to get from home to the snow plow , it looks like he could use an Elrond nowadays! 😊

I was watching your -19 video. A little trick I use for those ultra cold nights is to slip my camp stove under my engine to heat up the engine and battery before I start my truck in the morning. All it takes is 10 to 20 minutes. I use a MSR backpacking stove I've had since I was a preteen. It is the second version of their first stove. It keeps working. If the height under the vehicle is too short, one can use a cast iron pan as a heat spreader. Note, my truck would easily start at -20F, but heating it up as cooked and ate breakfast nicer for it. Of course if you have an oil leak, you might not want to do this. Also my camp stove is white gas fueled, and pressure fed by pumping it up. Propane and butane loose a lot of heat output capacity due to decreased cylinder pressures in the extreme cold. Obviously combustion products may make it inside the vehicle. I always curled back up in my bedroll in the bed of my pickup if I wasn't cooking.

I used to do this with my Element when I lived in Nebraska; it was how I "plowed" my driveway. Until that one winter...it snowed nonstop...I'd shovel and shovel and shovel, then the snowplow would come by to clear the street and snow me back in and I'd have to shovel THAT, and once I got everything all shoveled so I could get out of my (short!) driveway, the next snowstorm came. All Winter Long. We got one snowfall that would have taken me two weeks to shovel out myself; fortunately I got a guy with a tractor and a big board on the front to come and clear me out in two minutes -- paid him $10. SO worth it.

When you couldn't open your door, i was almost hoping you'd have to crawl out the window 😂 But I'm glad you got out, you got your car cleared, and Elrond walked right over the snow like you were in Middle Earth.
I miss the big snowfalls. I remember getting storms similar to this 10-15 years ago in the Midwest, but I actually enjoyed the shoveling and the massive drifts.
