  • Things you can do with your front DIN port and why it's not worth shelling out for an SW-Motech "powered" tank bag.

    Hi Terry
    Can you give me an idea of which tyre inflator would be ok to run through the front din port. A lot of manufactures say tyre inflators will not run through the din port on motorcycle.
    Cheers
    Karl

      The front port is rated for 10A so any 12v inflator with a load of 10A or less will be fine. I have often used a camping air pump on my front port and it is rated at 10A. I have seen this in use and it has a low current rating www.aerostich.com/repair/tire-repair/pumps-air-compressors/aerostich-mini-compressor.html

    Hi Terry.
    When you wire the lead from the Sat Nav to the Din Adaptor, do you wire it with the inline fuse intact or cut it off and wire it directly.
    Karl
    Great videos by the way.

      I don’t remember there being an inline fuse with the Tom Tom wiring and I THINK it is built into the Sat Nav electronically. My Sat Nav cable is fully intact and the excess is Velcro’d up to other cabling. That front port is fused but at 10A which is pretty chunky. If you have a Sat Nav cable with an inline fuse I would leave it in the circuit. Cheers!

    Great video can you use it for fog lights?

    • @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff
      @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      At 10A rating it could easily power fogs, just tap into the wiring underneath the plastics. You would want a fused circuit to the fog light rating and a relay from your on/off switch.

    This was extremely helpful...thanks Terry...do you like your TomTom Sat Nav?

    • @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff
      @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      John Williamson - Thanks for watching. I do like the Tom Tom, it’s the smaller 500/550 and makes for a good size to fit above the clocks on a home made mount. I especially like the wireless updates and wireless “track” transfers from MyRouteApp. You can do the same from Tom Tom MyDrive too but I find that a bit clunky. If you want a route with waypoints you have to transfer those manually. All in all it’s good value, I gave up using my phone as just too unreliable.

    • @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff
      @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi David. Try this one. It is a little dearer than others but can double up and work in a cigarette lighter socket or Hella DIN. It also comes with a rubber grommet which you put around the cable coming out of the unit. www.ebay.ie/itm/Continental-DIN-HELLA-Power-Accessory-Plug-12V-Triumph-BMW-Motorbike-Style/401054148604?hash=item5d60b0a7fc:g:K~cAAOxy2CZTbgSH

    Off topic, and I realize you live in cooler climate... is there a lot of engine heat hitting the rider? We have many days, months even, where it's 35 and over.

      CPUspeed - I would be wary at that temperature to be honest. Test drive is your friend but if it’s regularly up there I would be tempted to test a few bikes.

      @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would say your Triumph dealer is the best bet but I suspect pretty much any panel mount DIN port will fit. They are all a simple two spade connection. The two spades might be differently orientated but easy to crimp new connectors on cut back wires.

    Hi, have just bought a 2018 Tiger 1200 XRt and I have the Optimate 4 charger that I use in CanBus mode with my current BMW RnineT - The dealer said that Triumph advise connecting a lead directly to the battery and not to use the socket ??

    • @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff
      @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The dealer has it wrong. Triumph sell the Optimate cable as an accessory to plug directly into the front socket. The front socket is permanently wired to the battery. The rear cannot be used in this way however.

      Great, thanks for the info..just traded in a BMW RnineT which I only bought 3 months ago, but began to find it really cramped and uncomfortable. Went today to look at a new Speed T but asked about the Tiger..sat on it and bought it there and then. Fantastic spec..normally don't buy used but this one is an XRt with 24000 miles from one owner. Really looking forward to some long comfy rides !

      @@terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff Yes I am really looking forward to doing some decent length rides in comfort. I was thinking about buying new but fell in love with this bike when I saw it. Never bought a bike with such 'high' mileage, but the 20000 service recently done and just hope that it lasts a few years. Also came with the 3 box luggage. Found your videos helpful, especially the one on the TFT..reckon I will spend hours in the garage playing with that !

    Oh so triumph also had done the same stupidity like bmw. Why can't they just give a 12v cigarette lighter port. No hassles of buying so many dongles.

    • @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff
      @terenceokeeffesmotorcyclestuff  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      K T - it’s because the mini DIN is compact and the plugs “click” in making a firm connection that can be used in any orientation. If the rear horizontal plug was a cigarette lighter socket the plug would constantly vibrate loose. It’s very cheap to buy a mini DIN to cigarette lighter plug if that suits better but I think it is a retrograde step.
