  • Initial barriers against virus infection include hese include chemical and physical defenses such as skin and mucus. Viruses that penetrate these barriers encounter intrinsic defenses (always present in the cell), and then innate defenses (which must be induced by infection). Both are highly effective antiviral systems, but are antagonized by many different viral proteins - a reason why viruses are successful at being maintained in populations.

    I got my BA in political science, minors in history and English. Ended up being a machinest for over 20 years, pay and insurance was better.
    This is my second time listening to your lectures, first in 2020 (crazy times with SARS-COVID 19 first appearing in the USA). I am fascinated by virology now. Please keep up the good work.

    Excellent! Had 90-98% comprehension for the first third; it was exciting and interesting. Realized I couldn't retain much more and questions started encroaching my mind.
    I'll have to chip away at it in time.💛
