So I'm at the Calgary Stampede Grandstand Show that follows the Chuckwagon Races last night (July 13, 2018) and the announcer says 'Ladies and Gentlemen, Andy Kim', and he's lifted onto the stage from a sunken platform singing 'Rock Me Gently', I almost choked on my funnel cake. Everybody was singing along and having a great time. As this is one of my all time favourite songs of my childhood, I was having an 'out of body' experience. Still can't believe it... he followed up with 'Sugar Sugar' and asked us all to sing along (like he had to ask) everyone was on their feet!

I was born in 1969 and came to age in the 80's and early 90's. I could never understand when I was young why my parents always listened to 50's music, I just thought they were old and didn't know better. Now I understand, music is about remembering a time in your life and soliciting a feeling that has been lost only to be rekindled by a familiar tune. Often I use this music as a therapy session when life gets hard, it takes me back to a simpler time when music was such a large part of my life and I was carefree. My car radio is usually on 80's on 8 or 90's on 9 and guess what? My kids just think I'm old and don't know any better.

Choir! performance of Sugar Sugar by The Archies where they got Andy Kim to sing and record it with them for the 50th anniversary of the song just a couple of years ago.
