  • Humans are incredibly "handsy" we are constantly stroking dogs, picking them up, moving them and invading their space without warning. It's no surprise that lots of dogs actually do not enjoy this sort of interaction, even if they really like the person. In this clip taken from my live webinar, you can learn how to use the Three Second Rule to interact with your dog appropriately, so THEY get to enjoy it.
    Thanks for watching!

I really appreciated this video! I'm so glad I found you through VRA! I'm going to see if you have a video about helping a dog deal with being aggressive/defensive when walking on leash as we encounter other dogs and sometimes people. My 3 yr old Australian Labradoodle was attacked last year and hasn't been quite the same since.

Thank you so much for the comment, I'm glad the video was helpful to you! I'm really sorry to hear that your dog was attacked last year, it's awful when that happens. I don't have anything specific to dog fears and reactivity but the following videos (pre-recorded webinars) may be helpful to you learning how to rebuild his confidence:

My dog wants to lick my hands. She does not follow the "3 second rule". She will take hold of my hand [mostly the right one] so it's in reach, she's very gentle. But it's almost obsessive. I don't stoke her. I scratch behind her ears, or her chest, she loves that. Also she gives me her hips, she has HD. I massage them. I've found a lot of dogs like the base of thier spine [croup] in front of the tail scratched. She's a GSD, she instigates these interactions, but I use them as training rewards [I dont use treats].

Thanks for leaving a comment! The three second rule is a great technique to ensure you're not overstepping the boundary that your dog is trying to set. It sounds like your girl is great at communicating when she wants something, and where she wants it! GSD's are prone to Hip Dysplasia, and gut discomfort - sometimes obsessive licking can be an indicator for this, which might be worth noting.

I have a problem with my right hand. Trapped nerves in my arm. I think she knows!! It dosn't help though, her tongue is big and wet. Should I remove it after 3 seconds?
