    This tutorial is incredible for simulating a fairly straightforward, single shape. In other words, it worked brilliantly for replacing a front book cover. However, what if the image is an open book held in a natural position in the hands? This requires repeating this process on three or more different planes of the original image (front cover, spine, and back cover). However, if I try to duplicate the process to replace the back cover or spine, I get a message that says, "Could not use the Perspective Crop Tool because the image contains unsupported layer types." Have you shown how to use this tool (or another more appropriate tool/technique) for more complex shapes, like adding an entire book jacket to a stock image?

    I followed your instructions the the newest build of Photoshop subscription and when I get to the following steps,:
    "Then, press Ctrl Z (Windows) or Command Z (MacOS) to undo the step." and then ctrl V it does not have the same view as you do. The undo step does not return me to the step before the step that flips. My layers area match yours until the Ctrl Z step.
    Create a Selection
    Create a selection around the canvas by pressing Ctrl A (Windows) or Command A (MacOS), and press Ctrl C (Windows) or Command C (MacOS) to copy all of the pixels within the selection.
    Then, press Ctrl Z (Windows) or Command Z (MacOS) to undo the step.
    Go back to the full image and press Ctrl V (Windows) or Command V (MacOS) to paste the copied selection and rename the layer to “Book Cover.”
    Then, right-click on the layer and select Convert to Smart Object. This new layer will now contain all the distortion, filters, and adjustments that I will apply without affecting the other elements of this composite.

But I have two questions: What is this concept of the template that you used here because it appeared like magic, no explicit way to create a template, such as a tool. Never seen such a thing before in PS. And, lastly, Is this template making generalizable to other areas in PS? Thank you.

  • @jerrykeane5577
    @jerrykeane5577 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    As you seem to do on occasion, you made a very simple, 30-second procedure unnecessarily complicated. All that's needed to accomplish this is to crop the proposed cover image in the aspect ratio of the book cover (covers are generally pretty standard), slide the resulting image above the book, and use Transform/Distort to pull the corners to the corners of the book. The distortion will naturally result in the perspective mandated by the book's angle in the image. No pulling guidelines, no Smart Objects, nothing complicated.

    • @PhotoshopTrainingChannel
      @PhotoshopTrainingChannel  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      What if the books cover is not a standard size? Or you don't know the size. Or your working with another flat surface that is not a book? You don't always know the aspect ratio.
      I used this technique many times while working on projects for fortune 500 companies where we need to create designs that required realistic editable templates. So Smart Objects were required.
      And to your point, Sure, as long as you know the aspect ratio of the book (or surface) you can do as you said.
      But that's not often the case when you're handed a stock photo from an art director.
