    Hi Emil, you lost me when you mentioned that key-word searching can lead people astray but is helpful in 'general'. You see, I am confused on how to minimise the risk of making misconceptions (when looking @ key-words in the wrong context) or how to increase my likelihood of finding key-words in the right context without losing lots of time. Are their any further reading skill tips for finding more acurate find key-words very quickly (aside from practice making perfect of course).

    Hey, a lot of people share the same sentiment that the 2020 verbal reasoning section in the actual UCAT exam was extremely difficult. What did you find difficult about it? Was it more comprehension type questions or were the articles extremely difficult to understand?

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I think there are several things that make verbal reasoning hard - firstly, its the first subtest you do, so you're likely very nervous and your brain won't have warmed up. Secondly, its also very easy to screw up and panic in verbal reasoning, where you can't find the answer in the text and then you read again and again wasting time. I think those are the things that make verbal reasoning very difficult

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I think in general though, the articles were also quite difficult on the exam I did.

    Hi Emil, I was just wondering do we have to stick to a time framework for any of the subtests for e.g. 30 or 40 secs per question and if we cant do it in that time should we move on?

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I personally did that - I knew I wanted to spend 2 mins on a set of 4 questions, so if I went over that, I would skip

    have my ucat in a week and doing not great in vr especially in timed sets - i literally cannot get through all the questions, i miss out so many at the end and even the ones i do not with great accuracy.

    Thank you! So just to confirm: you scan read the whole passage first for true/false/can't tell questions. You read key words in each comprehension answer 1st question to then scan through in the passage?

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I read key words in both comprehension and true/false/can't tell then use them to scan through the passage

    Would you advise learning to speed read by removing subvocalisation for verbal reasoning thanks

    • @EmilEddy

      Yes would highly recommend removing subvocalisation, it can speed up your reading significantly!

    bro i am so confused alot of people say read the passage first then the question and other people say read question first? my question is which will get you a higher mark?

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Read the question first. You shouldn't just read the passage because you'll have no clue what you're looking for

  • @bibolotfy2083
    @bibolotfy2083 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    What i really want to know is how big are the passages in the actual ucat. I feel like medify has ridiculously large passages.

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Anecdotally, I've heard that the passages are shorter. However, I've also heard that the questions are somewhat harder so it evens out a bit

    Hi Emil, in the VR section is there a limited number of passages they give you or can you just skip as many as you want until you see ones u want to answer and still be able to answer 11 passages?

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, there are a limited number of passages

    on the ucat are you allowed to click ctrl+F and search your keyword or is that considered cheating?

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The software doesn't allow it - they run the test on their own test taking software which disables any of those functions

  • @PixelJem
    @PixelJem 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    were the questions in the consortium easier than the actual ucat test?

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The practice questions on the website are harder in my opinion. Mainly for the DM, QR and AR subtests.

    • @PixelJem
      @PixelJem 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EmilEddy what about the vr questions? Because there seemed to be a big difference between the medify and consortium vr passages. (Also thank you for replying)

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I actually disagree, although you very well could be right. I thought that the VR questions on the official practice were relatively similar to what I was given on the test! I actually used Medify as well when I did the test last year, and I was scoring in the 800s for VR in practice, but then on the test I got 670, so my personal experience was that the medify questions are easier, not harder. However, things could have changed since I used the platform and not everyone gets the same VR passages on the test

    • @PixelJem
      @PixelJem 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EmilEddy I heard that it was almost impossible to scan for keywords on the test and that you should try to skim the passage. Is this true?

    • @EmilEddy
      @EmilEddy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PixelJem I wouldn't say so. I scanned for keywords in the test and I scored exactly on the 90th percentile for VR. I think what matters more is staying calm and skipping the correct questions.
