In real life explosives travel at different speeds, you are using tnt so it’s speed of detonation is 7 km/s or 154,340 mph. The speed of detonation dictates the ‘speed’ of the explosion and that means it would have to go at least that speed to get out unscathed. A explosions main destructive force is its shock wave which goes at the close to speed of sound, hence sonic booms, so it would have to be going at the over the speed of sound to remain unscathed if it wasn’t in contact with the explosive. In this case there is conservation of motion so he could have to accelerate to x+154,340 mph (if x is the initial velocity at which the explosion happened), he would need to accelerate to that higher speed more or less instantaneously. If we are going that far then it also matters what the center of ignition is: center, symmetric, or asymmetric. This seems to be an asymmetric explosive because when he got to high enough speed only the left tire was popped. But if we dig even further then you have to consider that the block underneath was not damaged which means it wasn’t the entire side as an ignition point, only the left side on the middle or top. I’m not going through all of those calculations or physics of why that matters but it does have to do with the speed of detonation that we talked about earlier.
@@aidanstapleton5646 in real life explosions go really fast. And they have momentum. So you would need to somehow get another 1200 some M/s of speed the instant after it go boom.
You figured out dynamite is directional, which you can use to your advantage the next time you use it in multi-player! Not a waste of time as a video, and entertaining!
For some reason every scrapman multiplayer event from that day onwards that involved strapping TNT to the vehicle and dodging EMPs had his vehicle able to go over 600kmph.
If you put a 1x1x2 block next to the tnt it seems to blow up at 601. When you switched the last motor to the 1x1x2s you didn't put one above the tnt so you never had a block at the same position as the wheel. Also if you ever want to look at this again, to tnt with only one triggered by the speed sensor seems to be able to blow some motors up. Love your videos.
This test would be better if you capped your speed at the point the explosion was triggered. You were still accelerating when the dynamite was triggered.
You should try to create a machine that can spin and launch a litrle missle really high or far like the company "Spin Launch" for the creating real life machines you used to do
You should do a PT.2 of this, but see how fast you need to go with the TNT further into the vehicle to see if the speed needed to outrun the TNT is linier or exponential per block
Suggestion (Day 1): “Swimming tanks” So basically you’re gonna use a preset tank and make it swim, no aim assist, no changing the tank itself, instead you will need to make a vehicle to carry the tank like a landing craft with the ability to let the tank go, it will be an armed race around an island and once you reach the finish line you will let the tank go and whichever tank reaches land first wins. No energy shields of course unless you use multiple blasters
4:28 Today i learned that vehicle damage is dependent on your vehicle’s axis to the world When he’s slanted on the grid he takes out 2 black engines, when he’s straight on he takes out 1 black engine
It could also be that explosions are grid based, so being misaligned made the vehicle intersect more of the explosion. It should be possible to test this by putting an explosive in the middle of a bunch of small blocks and seeing if different blocks get destroyed based on orientation
In reality, shockwaves still consists of particles. As such, conservation of momentum applies as usual - but only for the first particles. The particles that are hit by those first particles don't have any momentum, but are pushed on by particles that have both the momentum from the vehicle AND the explosion, hence they would act as a bigger explosion towards the front and a smaller explosion towards the back.
If 2 Block ~ 1 m, the explosion reaches the ~ 7 m explosion radius in ~ 1/30 s, which i assume is the physics tickrate. So to survive a frontal hit the entire vehicle needs to clear the explosion radius in 1/30 s. For the car in the video, it would be >mach 2
Hi scrapman. Day 27 of asking you to make a gyro free stol plane (short takeoff and landing) or a bush plane and try to get the shortest takeoff and landing you can (in trailmakers)
I do not think there is a propagation speed of the explosion. I think explosions are instant in their spread. What Scrapman observing is a result of the delay between triggering of the dynamite and explosions occurrence.
The segmentation thing made me have an idea: race or something with segmented vehicles. It would be like a bug or somthing with a max amount of segments. Each segment can have only have one type of use, like engine, wheels, weapon, etc. this could be done with any vehicles
I tested it with this vehicle, and with the explosive at the front, you need to be going more than 1500 kph. At 1500 kph it destroys everything after the first white section. It's weird how at 1234 kph it destroys everything after the middle of the second black section, and at 1500 kph, the explosion is "faster".
The explosion damages your construction every time, because the exploding dynamite is part of the construction. So the screen shaking and cracking should be triggered every time.
So, beyond 600 km/h, you get roughly 2 blocks (1 engine) of explosion protection for every 50 km/h? At 600, only the blocks ahead of the explosive were safe. At 700, the next 2 (beneath the explosive and 1 block behind) were safe. At 800, another 2 blocks. At 1237, 6 engines (12 blocks) were safe.
Now you have to wonder if all explosions will work the same way. Will projectiles have the same delay on their explosion? Do their explosions have different radii? Is it possible that a 12 block long, supersonic jet might be immune to rockets while flying at mach-speed?
What if dynimite is attached with at the end long side since you saw damage is done to one wheel Wxplosion going one side, you have 2option for loge side too
Doesn’t acceleration play a role in this? Like if you were just cruising at a set speed wouldn’t the damage propagate differently than just accelerating through the target speed?
Possibly but keep in mind at his speed the explosions don’t ever do damage in front, hence secondary explosions won’t skew results since what’s severed is severed anyway.
I think that's why he was getting the asymmetrical damage, but it wouldn't affect what he was testing. Well, it may have been skewing things at sub-600 speeds, but once he was outspeeding the explosion it wouldn't have made a difference. Those times when he lost engines towards the front on one side, and towards the back on the other side. They might have been caused by the secondary explosion.
0:50 I like how the moves are almost the same
Yep, that's how scrapman is.
Was about to comment that
Well he’s talking about the same thing in both clips so it makes sense, but it’s still kinda funny
I think the editor once again did his part to make it funny 😂

But that only works if the explosion doesn’t hit you, the explosion itself moves WAAAY faster.
20:50 IMO it's because of engines. Engines are power core blocks and power core blocks explode. They can create chain damage... maybe???
thanks.

If you need more distance in the test map, Go from Corner to opposite corner. You'll have more space. Think of it like measuring a TV
its the Doppler effect but with explosives instead of sound
Maybe the 2x1 explosive has two 1x1 charges that detonate in sequence... ? That could explain the damage being asymmetrical.
