    This study is SO FLAWED if you actually read it (you can find it online).
    First of all, 108 people participated in the study... but not really. The average is actually around 90 people aged between 25-75, and if you look at the chart, you'll see that 90% of them are between age 48-61. At the mentioned age of 44, there are 2 (!) people.
    The average BMI (also shown on the chart) is 28.2 so most of them were obesse to start with. This is also reflected in the insulin resistance, where about a third are (pre)diabetic (insulin resistant). They all live in California, so hardly representing even the US.
    They were followed for a total of ONLY 1.7 years on average. There is one person who was followed for nearly seven years, so some were only followed for a few weeks in exchange. It also mentions that, for example, only 78 people took the "gut microbiome" test, and even fewer for some other tests.
    This is statistically a completely worthless study, even considering the USA.

    • @sarahinsf
      @sarahinsf 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +4

      Good points! I just want to add that 28.2 is not Obese, but it is Overweight. Obese starts at 30 BMI.

      @@jonyngvesyland5461 I explained that just above. Totally insignificant number of people, just 1-2 for each age group (years), so possibly one man and one woman. Limited to badly overweight people from one geographical region, following probably the same diet, etc. Anyone who knows anything about statistical analysis, and especially in the medical field would not take this seriously. These reseachers got some funding and had to come up with some paper that showed some result. Total waste of money IMHO.

    The study, which I also read, mentioned that there are a 6% of events/molecules that do not follow the biphasic changes observed in the more than 80% that do. Interestingly, they mentioned that this 6% follows a linear pattern of "decay" through the years. I do not understand why no event/molecule follows a linear change that instead of going down goes up. However, let's say most of that 6% suffer a "decay". Notably, that is the case of the gut microbiome and perhaps the lipidome. Moreover, many independent studies have pinpointed the significant role the microbiome has in maintaining the healthy functions of the mitochondria.
    Another thing that got my attention is that they did not discuss this, neither an alternative theory that incremental changes may have an accumulative effect were going pass a threshold (two of them) may cause those biphasic changes observed in the 80%. This is interesting and provides a source for identification of changes in key events/molecules such as changes in the microbiome and lipidome, for example. Consequently, that may signal key events/molecules that might be suitable targets for clinical interventions.

      It's going to take quite a few studies to reach a conclusion, but you have to be at least partially (probably mostly) correct. It's going to be a trickle down effect. When it reaches a certain point it causes observable change. Like when muscles degrade to the point where movement really goes down, they atrophy due to the lack of movement. They can say root cause is lack of movement but more likely mitochondrial decay due to microbiome like you theorized.

    Hi, non-scientist here. It looks to me that the body is regulating itself albeit over years and decades. These molecule peaks are identified by the body (don't know how, not a scientist), considered excessive/abnormal/unwanted, and action taken to reduce those peaks. The first peak is 'spotted' and the body takes action to reduce the offending molecules then the second lesser peak is 'spotted' earlier (the body learning) and action taken sooner. In another decade or two, assuming life continues, another peak will form and action taken again by the 'regulating' body. But like I say, I'm not a scientist, so I'm probably talking rubbish.

    But that said. I'm 58 currently. I didn't need to wear glasses until I was 45 and did feel that something changed about my mid-40s. Between 45 and 50 is when I transitioned from playing soccer to swimming as my main form of exercise. It wasn't a choice I made, my body made it for me.

    So glad you have reviewed this! I have not watched any of the other vids on this study, I was really hoping you would do a review 😊 I know these types of studies take a lot of work which means a lot of money. What would be interesting is if they continue to follow each individual to see how they age from 40 to 60. Perhaps it wouldn’t make much of a difference but each person has their own lifestyle, genetic makeup, I know there are too many variables.
    I had some health issues in my 40s so I didn’t feel great. I was finally able to figure out what was causing the issues and made changes that helped me feel better in my mid 50s and beyond. I’m now 63 and feel great but I can tell I have experienced changes from my mid 50s.

    I'm a 63 year old male. I noticed two short periods when it seemed like a step change in aging took place. Around 32 rapid recession of hairline (mpb). Mid forties a small patch of grey hair below lip but the rest remained brown until 58 when sudden change of remaining hair and beard to grey took place. Also at this time 58-60 skin changes loosening on face and neck and development of abdominal fat which had never been an issue before.

    Great video! Our mind thinking aging matters makes us sick. If there is one thing all super agers have in common, it is that they do not think they are old and they carry on like they are young. Rupert Murdoch, Roger Penrose, William Shatner, Dick van Dyke, David Attenborough, Eric Kandel, Bruce Ames, etc, all have this in common. Interestingly they all eat very little and are mostly plant based.

    • @Trader7535

      The human diet in nature isn't plant based. Is mostly animal based with some plants and fruits. So it's simply impossible a vegan or vegetarian diet is good. Cope with it.

    • @eric_james_music
      @eric_james_music 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Trader7535 Source? If you compare our teeth with any other animal in the wild, we only have 2 teeth that are meant for tearing through flesh (canines), and the rest are more or less for plants. Also, look at the way different cultures eat around the world. There is a tribe in Africa that eats a ton of diary but doesn't have high blood pressure because they have adapted to their diet over thousands of years.
      Italians and Greeks eat a mostly plant based diet, and they have some of the longest lifespans in the world. Japan too, but they eat more fish instead of red meat. I will agree with you that a vegan diet is problematic in that it misses vitamin b-12, choline, and a few other micronutrients. I'm mostly vegetarian, but eat eggs and cheese. Same with my parents. They are 60 and both look like they're in their 40s.
      Also, fruits are plants.
      I am a science teacher and my mom is an RD. Keep coping. This carnivore diet craze is nothing but insecure alpha male BS. Plants make you strong! I eat lots of nuts and olive oil. My vegetarian ass can deadlift 350 lbs at 170 bodyweight, after only about a year of training.

    That may have been true over the past decades, however, now with most of the population genetically engineered to systemically express the pro-inflammatory spike protein, physiological aging is chronically accelerated across all age groups for at least the next few decades. Accordingly, we are going to see a "great surge" in aging-related morbidity and mortality and infertility in the coming decade that will be unprecedented, the results of which will be mass population collapses..... unless we create and adopt interventions that prevent and reverse biological aging.

    This study reminds me of another study from a few years ago, "Undulating changes in human plasma proteome across the lifespan" (PMC7062043) in which they identified 3 peaks: at ages 34, 60 and 78. It seems more robust due to the cohort size (n=4263) but I wouldn't dare make any strong assertions.
    It makes me wonder, how do the results of one study relate to the results of the other?
    How much do the results (specifically the age peaks found) depend on the methodology, criteria, markers measured, cohort, etc.?
    Still, both studies at least suggest sudden aging around specific ages.

    Why did this remind me of: I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate. Lone Starr: What's that make us? Dark Helmet: Absolutely nothing!
