  • Our W210 2001 Mercedes-Benz Wagon had VERY bad motor mounts! In this video, we show you how to replace the motor mounts and the transmission mount for the NON 4Matic W210. Our Mercedes has the M112 V6 engine paired to the 722.6 transmission.
    Pro-Tips:
    -Make sure you have the "Offset 16mm Engine Mount Socket Wrench" tool for the job.
    -Be patient! It took a lot of time to get the bolts undone, and to get the mounts in and out of place.
    -The new mounts came with a rubber covering that made installation very difficult - the OEM mounts didn't have this, so we removed it.
    -Be prepared to remove the steering for the drivers side.
    -This job is far easier with a lift!

    Just did this on my 99 e320 sedan us spec. All the reading I did prior, most popular method was to unbolt a/c compressor and push it forward. I unbolted both engine mounts and then jacked the engine as high as it will go. I was able to slip the engine mount out and pop the new one back in between A/C compressor and the frame rail. There was an A/C line secured to that frame rail that has to be removed. Just one bolt. Hope this helps others.

      Thanks for the information. I'll definitely try this. I coincidentally just replaced my A/C compressor on my 2000 E320 so that should help it come out easier ( in theory 🤣 ). Seriously though this is the information I've been looking for so thanks for the confirmation.

      Just for confirmation the side you said you were able to slide out from the front where the compressor is, is in fact the driver's side mount you're referring to correct? I've read where people mix up the alternator and compressor and I just want to make sure that this information is about the driver's side. Thanks so much man. I have to replace these mounts this week. My parents are coming down from New York and I don't want my mother driving the Benz with the clunk noise. It's annoying to sit at a light with the vibration. God bless and Happy Holidays!

      @@acetech9237 yes driver side. If it's tight use a pry bar to push engine slightly to get out. I had to do the job twice. Don't buy cheap engine mounts

    Way to go. I just did the same last week on my X164. I also replaced the oil filter housing gaskets and rack & pinion, which your video helped. Thanks for taking the time to bring us along on your mechanic journeys.

    You cut the part where you get the drivers side one out. How did you get it out???? Mine wont come out and of course that is the part of the video you cut. Don't show the hardest part? Why??? Thanks for the video anyways

      Because we are called the bad ideas garage. Not the “full production crew garage” 😅 honestly can’t remember why or how. This was a while ago! I think we just negotiated it out

      Surprisingly, it took about a half a day. The hardest part was negotiating the mounts in and out of the spot.

    I want to buy one for $2700, 7 seater E320 4Matic model, it has 200k miles on it and some 3rd party dealer is selling it, I'm in Bay Area California. Do you think it worth buying ? I can throw about $2000-$3000 on it for fixes and maintenance, will that make owning now classic I guess 7 seater worth it? I'm replacing my old Honda Odyssey

      I have a soft spot for the Ody - ours we still have and is nearing 400k miles! That price at a dealer isn't bad, I would certainly get it inspected by a Mercedes expert who had experience with these. That seems like a reasonable approach and budget!

    Question. Are those ebay mounts? Just got genuine mercedes ones from fcp, and they dont have those covers.

    • @BadIdeasGarage
      @BadIdeasGarage  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Honestly, cannot remember where we bought them. However, if I am remembering correctly, the covers we didn’t even use at all. We tried to put them in, but it was cumbersome, so we went without. I think I also went with FCP or AZ parts haus

    My mechanic wants to charge me $1500 to replace rear main seal and engine mounts does that really sound reasonable? After watching this video, it shouldn’t be that hard but $1500 is insane to my opinion.

    • @BadIdeasGarage
      @BadIdeasGarage  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have no idea what a mechanic would charge for that but I googled it and a forum said $1100 for rear main seal at a dealer. So that plus mounts is expensive but within a stones throw from what others have said.

    • @acetech9237
      @acetech9237 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a Mercedes Benz tech and foreign cars in general that is not a crazy price. It sounds expensive when you watch these videos that have been edited and cut out a lot of frustration and time. Be mindful there are numerous components that need to be removed to access the rear main seal. In general most labor costs are usually substantially higher than parts. Though parts aren't getting any cheaper these days either. For example however, if you were to replace the rear main seal and the mounts and a week, a month, 6 months later the component fails, most shops will warranty work like this for up to 12 months 12,000 miles. If you do it yourself you're f***ed. I try to remind people that often the high quotes are also to cover the shop in the event something does fail during the warranty period. Most importantly never have a side job mechanic that isn't reputable or well known to you or family and friends. That's always a gamble. When you're talking repair costs being over a few hundred dollars it's well worth considering a dealer or Automotive shop that gives you a documented receipt with a warranty in writing.
