    I would have liked to see more on the latch system that holds it to the bike, how that was changed from the monarchy to the two twist locks.

    I am in the process of finding a suitable set of bags to install on my “new to me” 2014 V-Strom DL1000. What I’ve found is: Everything out there is very expensive and is dominated by Givi/Kappa. My decision making is guided by which a Givi mount frame I buy. The V-Strom DL1000 is not well supported by Tusk or Solo bags (Washington state).....HOWEVER!!! If you buy the Givi Trekker NON CAM mount frame, Tusk and Solo will fit with some very easy to Install mount pucks from “Happy Trails” side cases (Boise Idaho). Just an FYI... Tusk, Solo and Happy Trails all look similar. Choose one, they are about he same quality. Cheaper is sometimes better.
    Good video content. Straight forward and to the point. The Dolomiti bag set are probably as rugged as they come from Givi, but you have to buy them in pairs. If you ruin one, you have to buy both. The Outback series can be purchased separately. I believe I will continue my search, but thanks for the great content and an honest review. TH-cam needs more just like this....

      Okay, update for my decision. I contacted Eric Nolan owner of Solo Bags inc. He has a well supported Facebook page on which he advertises and sells his product. He is a low volume manufacturer and each bag he makes is hand made. He is willing to work with potential buyers and make his recommendations on size and even mixing the wider bag with the narrow one to compensate for the motorcycle exhaust. His Facebook page highlights a growing business with subtle changes in design. Since he posted a custom modified bag for his BMW that had a section along the bottom inside edge cut away or “notched” I asked if he would do the same for me. The answer came fast and that was a “NO!” With the explanation that his bags were all made from templates and jigs and he would need to charge a premium for this modification. He did offer to sell me a wide and narrow bag. I’ve seen this set up before and at best it looks awkward and ill designed. He offers black and aluminum toned powder coating but will sell a bare uncoated bag. They cost $399.00 shipped. Now then, enter the Tusk pannier. Made in China, however they are quite sturdy in spite of the bird shit looking aluminum welds. They are almost a direct clone of the Solo bag or vise versa. Tusk panniers “are what they are”. They are in Black or Aluminum and a lot of people like them. Neither Solo or Tusk offered a mount frame for the Suzuki V-Strom DL1000. Thing is, Tusk bags are $199.00 shipped. I could buy a narrow and wide set of the Tusk panniers for the same money as a single set of the Solo bags. I would have bought the Solo panniers if Eric would make the modification notch along the bottom inside edge of one of the bags, but such is not the case. It is his business and if he feels uncomfortable doing mods or custom work it is his choice. So....... I did not buy Solo panniers nor the Tusk panniers.
      I purchased the last Givi PL3105CAM frame $247.00 shipped) from Twisted Throttle in Exeter Rhode Island. Amazon sells the Givi Trekker Outback side cases for $711.00 shipped. I got the 33 liter size because I have a top box as well. Still waiting for delivery.

    That extra piece of hardware that goes on the Monokey rack, does that come with the side cases? Or do you have to search around for it? If it’s separate could you share what it is exactly/what I’m looking for?
    Nice video!

    I just installed my racks and I can not get the cases to line up into the mounting holes; nearly impossible to turn the metal ring on one case, once i managed to get one out of four pins to line up.

    Hi there, you said that the pair of Givi Trekker Dolomiti 36 comes with three (3) locks. Can you confirm? This would be nice if one buys the 46 liter topcase, you can swap out it lock touse the same key for all three cases. I called Revzilla, they said I have to buy a three (3) lock set when later I get the topcase.

    Hi there, I have the givi monokey rack which I am using for me E22 plastic top loading boxes, if I were to purchase these boxes In your video, would they come with the plate/adapter that goes onto my monokey rack? Or would I have to purchase that separate? Kind regards, Stephen. :)

    • @averagegravelgrinder471
      @averagegravelgrinder471  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, it comes with the plate/adapter. Takes about 5 minutes and a Phillips screwdriver to install.

    Hello, is it a givi trekker 52 you use as top case ? I watn to use on a cb500x with trekker 52 but wonder if I can the side case easily

    • @averagegravelgrinder471
      @averagegravelgrinder471  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's actually the kappa Garda 52, which is pretty much the trekker 52. In my setup I don't have any problems with opening the lids.
