She is a style icon to me, her classic look never looks dated. Her figure was flawless for timeless fashion.
Fully agree! Thank you so much for watching Sheila❤
Very beautiful woman with simplistic and elegantly minimal style, was superb , rest in peace Carolyn .
Yes RIP❤️
She was the epitome of elegance. My heart aches for her knowing what she endured , may she be resting in the peace of God.
Agreed! RIP💗
Her style is always relevant
Always❤️
I loved how she always looked well put together and effortless
Her style was classic and timeless. Anything she wore in the late 90s could be worn today and look updated.
Yes relevant each decade onward. Thank you so much for watching Janet❤️
It wasn't the late 90s dear.
Most of what you see was early to mid 90s - her Style IS v much very early 90s🙏🇬🇧🌏💜
When I first saw her wedding gown, I thought it was the most beautiful gown I'd ever seen and it has been the best since then for me. And her style... no words needed. I really LOVE her style!!♡ She looked so beautiful and intelligent. RIP.
Love everything about her style. So timeless and classy.
Same❤❤❤
Mary, you totally understand the subject. ❤ Thanks for honoring Carolyn and her eternal style.
Thank you so much Stephanie❤
What I liked about her is that they were modest pieces that anyone could wear
Yes she made the most ordinary pieces look so striking. Thank you for watching Kristie❤
I used to work for an Italian Bridal company when she got married. She wore a simple slip dress and a veil. We had a very simple dress but with three roses on the back. We sold out of that dress for the next 3 years.. it was a very expensive dress so as the UK Agent I earned a lot of money.. Ha
OMG! I can only imagine and good for you❤❤❤
Im always been obsessed with her style. The main reason is because I like items that are very timeless. She’s always been my style icon, but I’m also on the older age. If you look at everything she’s wearing you can still wear right now. Just so elegant
Yes exactly. Each item is a true wardrobe building piece. Thank you for watching!
I loved her wedding dress, how she looked and it was simple, minimal and so clean. That picture is still in my mind.
I am so sad she and John are no longer living among us!
I know, so inspirational❤
They are living, safely.
The “white button down shirt “ is everything! I have one on now…❤
Yes, one of the best wardrobe building pieces❤
What I love was her clean lines, high quality minimalist approach. I continue to wear black turtlenecks, black heeled pumps and recently bought the bootcut cords that she made fabulous. I plan on getting the midi beige pencil skirt.
Same! Her beige midi skirt was perfection! Thank you for watching Tracy💗
The style of public figures was so genuine prior to the 2010s. I love the sleek cream tweed dress, i believe it was surprisingly versace as well.
Loved her style. White shirts the classic essential
Yes such a staple!
This style is a very focused style, understanding and focusing on what she has, and likes about herself, then bring that out in the most efficient and refined way.
Yess focused is a good way of putting it. Thank you so much for watching Eileen❤️
The definition of minimalism and quiet luxury. ❤
Loved her effortless style
I'm with you Andrea❤
Great video. I love her style. I also love that she had favorite pieces she wore over and over. I think this was also part of her minimalist sensibility. She really was one of the street style pioneers.
Yes she really was❤
Kate Middleton wore long gloves in the last BAFTA event but didn't quite "get the look" like Carolyn. It's because her gown is not "the right gown" to wear long gloves. Looking at Carolyn's slim strapless gown I understood what the fashion critique were talking about.
Interesting observation. I'll have to check out her look. Yes they can definitely be an overpowering item or they can be appear to seamless and elegant. Thank you for watching❤️
Great video! CBK embodied that super chic, 90s fashion anecdote to the over the top 80s.
100% Thank you for watching Jay Are❤
She changed everything, globally, with that wedding gown. It was a phenomenon to live through. Every designer flipped overnight. Bias cut was everywhere. Loved her dearly and feel so robbed - she might have been First Lady and we could have had that. So sad. Thank you! ❤
So true, they were such an iconic couple and her style was on a whole other level. Thank you for watching Lizzie❤
So sorry for your loss. And the world lost them. I remember watching them with awe in the 90’s. How blessed and privileged they were. They were a beautiful couple. Seemed like very nice people.
One of my favourite things about men’s dress shirts is that you get those deep cuffs and stiff collars that elevate the shirt and make it more sophisticated. Also, it’s so easy to find 100% cotton ones that are super light and since they are going to be oversized, they are so cool to wear in the summer. They give you some sun protection without being hot. But in the cooler months it’s easy to layer underneath to keep you warm. They’re as comfortable as a t shirt. So easy to find short sleeve versions as well. Too many women’s button up shirts are oddly tailored around the waist and hem. I have a few pairs of opera gloves. One very fine knit pair as well as satin ones. They are so versatile and useful. Highly recommend them. Finding a more tailored maxi skirt but one that is still comfortable (I have a navy one in cotton poplin so it has the slightest sheen to it, looks silky so can be dressed up or down that is slightly more tailored looking and is fully lined) is also something I highly recommend. It’s a serious work horse in my wardrobe. Can layer it with tights or thermals in the winter, light enough to be worn comfortably in summer. Always looks good and I get so many compliments on it.
yes for the stiff collars, I miss these so much on women's shirt
Beautiful explanation of men's dress shirts. Yes I love my maxi skirt, such a staple as a Canadian paired with sweaters but can be wear in the summer so easily. Thank you so much for watching❤
Well I will take a look at men's shirts. I guess exclusively the white ones? Being petite, I'm not sure whether they'll work on me.
Love her style! And love this video! I feel one thing that plays a big part in her outfits and style is her hair color. It really helps to sum up the entire look with a focal point. It really makes me want to further collaborate my own style with my hair color. ❤
100% Her essence, her beauty and who she was only emphasized because of her clothing choices. Great point about collaborating hair and style❤
Yes, I agree. I was thinking she was very very restrained about colour. She let her hair stand out that way.
Her white slip dress is my dream wedding dress
It is so beautiful and timeless❤
This dress grew on me and worked for a very intimate wedding in a warm summer. I don't see it in an urban environment in a larger church.
Great job on the video. I love the simplicity of her style.
Thank you so much Kimberly❤
Love 90s minimalism. Glad that I insisted on wearing my Jil Sander white dress in my high school graduation even it was a little shorter than the school standard
You had incredible style in high school. Thank you so much for watching Ky❤
Hello Mary I am always in search for the perfect white shirt. I have 10 (cotton and silk). Another fantastic video. Thank you.
I know what you mean, I always add a new one every year. Thank you so much for watching Dona❤
Fabulous. Her style was very reminiscent of Gwyneth Paltrows 90s street style
So good❤
Understated Elegance!
100%❤
I always LOVE her style. So classy.
Great video! Years ago I went to Selima's boutique in New York in search of the model of sunglasses she wore. I tried them on and was shocked at how tiny they were on me. She was tall but she was actually quite fine-boned and had a very small, delicate face.
Ohh interesting point! Thank you for watching💗
Love it, love it, love it!thank you.
Thank you Ana❤
Yeah I'm 55 and I remember them. They were a beautiful couple. I've always loved and seen Carolyn, Angelina Jolie and Meghan Markle as my style icons. Classic, elegant, minimal....all the way.
Yes all have beautiful style. Thank you for watching!
i love her style
Same❤❤❤
Thank you for this segment! I once wondered whose style of dress reflects my style. It would def be CBK! Timeless and feminine. Thank you for more inspo as I shop for new apparel! 💙💙
Yes, I always go back to her style for inspiration. Thank you for watching🙏
wait this is too funny - i just rewatched your original video on CBK yesterday! been feeling inspired lately!
Haha no way! Thank you so much for watching both Willa❤
Amazing video and content 👏👏
Love appreciating other people's style.
Thank you so much Evelin❤
A lot of neutrals. No fuss accessories. Plain. Simple. Clean. That’s her. Too bad she died so young. Too bad her husband did ignored the flight instructor’s warning and did not accept his assistance. That what I think about whenever I see photos of her and JFK JR. Very tragic and could have been avoided.
Don't forget her sister perished with them. Absolutely devastating for their parents and remaining sister.
That's so unbearably sad.
She was late, he was waiting for her to leave, and yes, it started to get dark, and he shouldn't have flown, but Carolyn was late
If ever Hollywood decided to do a movie about them, Cameron Diaz would be the perfect lookalike to play her. Just my opinion❤
@@CJ-eu2uqshe too old, but maybe 20 years ago.
A movie based on Michael Bergins book, would be great.
Thats the man she really was in love with.
She had him wrapped around her finger.
great video, I love your analysis. Please keep posting, you are becoming my fave content on YT!
Thank you so much Ferran❤
I love your videos.
Thank you Miriam❤
I feel like a red lobster waiter in a white button up 😅
LOL❤
She was very lucky to be ABLE TO wear black. Black and white are a CLASSIC colour combination but not everyone can wear black and look good
She looked stunning! Thank you for watching❤
Bought the comme des Garcons pouch And its the handiest thing ever
Not gonna, I feel tempted to get one too. Thank you for watching Maurice!
Great video and you made some really good points about her style that I hadn't heard before. I would disagree about the 90s being a predominantly optmistic style decade: When I think of them I also think of Heroin chic which was a big influence on me as a young teenager.
Her white shirt was also Yoji. It wasn’t a men’s shirt, although it could have been.
love her style . and she gat the figure too. she is one of the few women that have it all .style style style even after how many years , women still want to copy her style
CBK ❤❤❤❤❤
Yes❤❤❤
Thank you for comming up with new videos about her - pleaase keep her in your rotation:) i got to know her because of one of your videos and i think its hard to do new and different topic videos like this because there are so little pictures and she died MUCH to soon :( she would have taught us so much more if she had the time to evolve i think she wouldve been like audrey hepburn: looking perfect in every age and yomeone to look up to aging naturally
Yes, I always love going back to her style for inspiration. If only the accident didn't happen, it would have been so fascinating to see her style through the decades. Thank you for watching Klara❤
I dress classic, no frills....hate logo anything
I just finished reading “the other man” (from the public library)
I suggest anyone interested in JFK Jr and Carolyn read it.
Written very well and tremendous insight into Carolyn.’She was obviously in love not with JFK Jr but with Michael Bergin but he didn’t have the financial means at that time (he was 23 when they met-she was 26) to be “the one”.
Its sad, bc she was obviously in love with him not JFK Jr.
I didn’t know about this book till I read about it on a comment -read it in a day.
Drip, Drip, just setting the stage. It's going to be AWESOME!!
Do you have white button down recommendations? Trying so hard to find the perfect one. Love the vid btw
I love my white button down from APC I got in a sale a few years ago. Thank you for watching❤
“The Husband Shirt” by Misha Nonoo is perfection and the best white shirt I have ever owned!
She was perfection. I can't think of one bad outfit she wore. ❤
She really was❤
It was the v begining
of the 90s though
When she adopted
this look; she didn't
always wear it💜💜 -
but she began to work for Calvin Klein then
(Who became Huge!)
"The English Look"
Was copied a lot by yr Designers (who had seen your ultra riche Elite copy our Nobility & Upper Classes) Ralph Lauren copied it first & then so did CK to a certain extent (but CK often went for the English Utility Look
as well - it was an
absolute rejection
of the 1980s
maximalism🙈💜
That's a huge part if it.
Everybody was fed up of (we learn this is Fashion/Design at school & social studies etc) - but it took a while until many ppl
gave up that 80s style
The current "quiet Luxury"
thing is Fake! & the Design Houses ALL trying to stop a Complete Rejection of all that maximalist & label label thing (as has happened at least two or three times)
Everybody rejected the
1980 glittery/ labels,/chain straps & over the top everything incl
Huge Hair
If the 1980s that's what that is. Carolyn Bessette knew about the late 1980s rejection of all
things maximalist
in the UK
+ Ralph Lauren had been copying "the British Look"
Since the late 1970s
(e.g the college girl or boy Or man aesthetic)
+ "The English Look"
Was the look of our
Aristocracy forever
(Your "Old Money"
Copies our
Nobility
& our Alway-Were
Rich types don't
change much
(& buy well made clothes
over + over & are proud to do so - they buy clothes built to last a long time)
They don't waste money
Not ever! & Don't care
for Labels as None Nouveaus don't)
Real rich ppl don't like to be used as Advertising for brands! So what if the label is blah blah blah
- the label goes on
The Inside!
had been so since
either the 1600s
Or even 1200s.)
the English Look became a real thing in the 1920s + thirties though - hence
you'll see these tea-dresses - & ties also
Note that Carolyn did
Not Have - an Athletic
Body Type!
She was naturally
quite chunky
& Please understand
Carolyn was not
Born old money
She was the Daughter
of an Engineer+
an Administrator
* They weren't poor
but weren't rich
(Then her Mother
Divorced &
Married almost
Rich - & she got a glimpse
How Things Were
on the Upper West &
Upper East Sides
& Liked how they
Dressed & all of it
Caroline went in
hard for that look
"The Old Money Look"
(x 90s CK Minimalism
Although all of that 90s
Minimalism was that)
She had v dark hair
+ Highlights
& wore 1980s layers
& Shoulder padded blazers
She had Lithuanian
Heritage & some
Italian Heritage
as well as the rest of it
Carolyn worked for Calvin Klein so had access to a lot of his garments
but she had spent time with the rich Elites in NY(& was determined to
be Accepted by them)
Your old money set are
ALMOST as tough
as ours for anybody
to get into! If they
Weren't born into it
(but they aren't
Royalty & are far far
bigger snobs than
Any of Our Upper
Class types!
(Very much so)
Carolyn climbed the
greasy pole & it
wasn't easy
(& Marrying JFK's
Son was almost
like Marrying a
U S Prince -
she succeeded where
Millions failed
(& he would have
Married Darryl Hannah
if his Family had
let him - but they
thought that she
could never be
Accepted as
"First Lady"
In the White House
(& no matter what
Anybody says
John Jr was headed
straight for 1600
Pennsylvania Avenue)
People adored him
for who he was
- ten years or less after
his Marriage to Carolyn
he would have
probably been in
there as many
within the
Democrats & the
States wanted
The Kennedys were
Irish though (& Some in
the Establishment there!(
Don't like that
& really didn't used to
Like that unfortunately
there was a LOT of
Discrimination whilst
his Father was alive
(& yet JFK had been a
War Hero even)
(My cousin is the
Manager of a
very upscale
Broadway Theatre
in NY (the Upper
East Side types
are not unknown
to me🤭💜 but) the
Upper East Side
are VERY Different
to the Upper West
Side - & that's all
I'm saying here!
JFK Jr lived
in Tribeca probably
bc of that
(Anyway that's
what I know)
🙏💜🇬🇧💜
Ahead of her time and timeless
Agreed Julianne! Thank you for watching❤
I have JFK junior's face on my Vision board😅❤
He was very handsome!
It’s uncanny how much Carolyn looked like Jackie’s sister, Lee Radziwill.
Ohh yes interesting point!
Rest in pease
I loved this video! *subscribe* : )
Thank you so much Veronica💗
May she rest in peace. She was beautiful but I don't think she should be put forward as a style icon.
She was so beautiful. What a huge loss for everyone.
Couldn't agree more
Her style is literally Big’s wife from Sex and the City
I thought she was wonderful, stripped back, no costume jewellery, hair brushed straight, minimal makeup. Can't say I've ever seen a bad photo of her. How inordinately sad 😔
The only things I would add is a sturdy bra and some form of clogs/wooden mule
I do think a lot of her fashion aged her.
Especially the beige skirt/brown boots outside the Tribeca home.
She was someone who was in her late 20’s there. She could have easily looked like she was in her late 30’s.
The same with some of her formal choices.
In quella foto aveva 30anni 😊
😅I just don't feel CBK's take on minimalism worked with her coloring. Black and pure white around the face are very harsh for blonds. She would have looked better in blue grays, camels, taupes, off whites, or a scarf or simple necklace to offset the black. I didn't like the corduroy slacks with the sweater exposing the pockets. She had beautiful hair, but it was generally styled severely even for evenings. Since retiring, I have tried to avoid buying black because it is aging, even though it works with my coloring. I notice that black items are creeping back in because it is a necessity though.
@@maryok4099 she used a red lip which made it work. Yes, black is my favorite but as Im aged now it isnt as flattering.
@@debbiemartin2026 I didn't like the true red she wore either. Maybe a tomato or orangey red would have worked better. There are some videos of Gwnyth Paltrow in her 90s minimalist fashion. She was wearing dark lipstick but more brown/rust. Get "Color Me Beautiful" if you have never read it. They book is pretty clear on what colors work with what coloring. Black is an important fashion color, especially for evening wear, but Navy, Gray are better choices for some.
@@maryok4099 Funny you mention that book. I remember it in theearly 80’s-I think I even had it. I remember color swatches and such.I used to have very very dark natural hair. Now it’s mostly gray. I dont remember gray hair in the book!! It’s been a real challenge with color.I do not look good in the colors I used to. The jewel tones make my hair look dingy. Even with purple shampoo. Black seems to be best just as contrast to my hair. But my whole closet is black.Heck, it stinks being 67.
This style works when you’re tall and athletic, does not work for petites
I am petite and there are elements I feel I can incorporate - certainly the neutral colors. I am not as thin as I used to be, but column dresses and skirts without frills would have been okay. I do not get the long midi/maxi skirts for daytime that minimalists wore. Sometimes they looked frumpy.
Understated elegance 🩷 know what suits you best. .
It really is!
