Good memories. That was my first bike, bought 2 years used in 1980. Rode mine from Virginia to Miami (and stayed for life) in 1983 when I got out of the Marine Corps. Unfortunately mine was totaled at a red light rear end collision within a year. I was okay but not the Yamaha. Still riding to date. Now it's an Indian Super Chief Limited. ✌️
That was my first bike. When I returned home from the Marine Corps in 1983 it was still there waiting for me. I was home 2 weeks, hated the cold weather and rode it from Virginia to Miami where I made my life. Unfortunatly I was rear ended at a red light and the bike was totaled "I ejected and only had minor bruising". Miss that bike.
Bought one of these to replace my Yamaha TX-750. It had a lot of new features that most of the motorcycles back then didn't have: Disk brakes front and rear, shaft drive, cast wheels. Alas, got married, had children, gave up motorcycles for 16 years.
I had a 1977 Yamaha 2D in the silver and blue color scheme with a color matching Pacifico full fairing. It was a Ok bike had some issues mostly they had a weak 2nd gear, I bought the new gear and shift fork and gaskets and put it in myself. They had a hyvo chain driven primary which made a lot of noise instead of a gear driven one. They used to have a lot of jacking in the rear end when you goosed it with that type of shaft drive system with a middle gear case which is rather undesirable in corners. I still have the little plastic dipstick that came in the tool kit to check middle gear case gear oil level. Noisy cam chains were also a issue on these but you kind of learned to live with it. I put a Paul Dunstall three in to one exhaust on it, kind of similar to the 1976 model which came d ith a three into one. I took my girl friend, future wive for rides on it and taught her to ride not the best for that but she caught on to shifting snd clutching quickly being a farm girl lol
I found that I liked the look of the bike more than the bike itself 🙂 It was comfortable to ride, smooth, but didn't do any one thing particularly well. Fine as a nice looking cruiser that you don't see every day. Felt a bit heavy too.

I had the same bike, same color, same year. My favorite motorcycle a true Japanese masterpiece. The reason I own an XSR900

Wish that I still had mine. I won't buy new.
Looking for a nice one of these.
