In the non salted south we can do all these repairs with a Leatherman and a pry driver. We cannot however knaw it off with our teeth because a lot of the mechanics around here have none. 😁
If someone brought a rusty vehicle like that down south we would just blow the sway bar link off with a 12 gauge while somehow blowing up the neighbors house in the process.
Eric, I've been home sick the last couple of days and have been re-watching some of your earliest videos (Ridgeline exhaust valve, RAV4 broken head bolts, Subaru head gaskets) and let me tell you it is *amazing* to see how you have improved so much over the years!! And those original videos were great! You are a great instructor whether you realize it or not and your delivery and fun style set you so far apart from the crowd it's not even funny. Thanks for continuing to inspire and educate DIY-types like me all over the world!! ❤️
Some of the really early ones were Eric o by the book like an instructor no joking around! Glad he loosened up because the joking around makes the show! Plus all the knowledge
Raise kids the old fashioned way...Behave or Be crippled!! What a treat to have so much of my screen time filled with the lovely Mrs. O! You're a blessed man!
Wasn't going to watch until I had more free-time but I saw Mrs. O in the 'thumb nail', not in a disrespectful fashion fellas, and thought I had better set aside the things I need to accomplish today and watch, listen, and hit the like button. SMA priorities after all...
That kitchen at the shop gets me everytime. What a good way to warm up, liven up, and happy up the shop. Having a nice hot fresh lunch from the Mrs. must make the daily grind much more manageable.
When I was a younger man I had to have rust particles dremeled out of my eyeball. Took 3 treatments. Now I wear safety glasses when the Sparks fly. I was fine until I wasn't. Not an experience I would recommend. Take care Mr. O!
Same here, except it was my dad. The metal rusted to his eyeball and they had to grind it off, then go back again to make sure they got it all. I was in junior high. Made a safety glasses wearer out of me but didn’t keep me out of the trades. I guess the road salt isn’t the only thing making metal rust.... haha
never had to have metal surgically removed from my eye but when I was a kid, I did have to have a cinder surgically removed from my eye. I clearly remember the Dr. digging it out with a needle. Sadly, you can't not watch when they are digging away at your eyeball.
Had two grains from a grinding disc removed from left eye at local hospital, but they couldn't get deep enough to remove the bit of metal that went in first, had to go to a specialist, he said " yeah I'll get that out easy, and if not I'll just drill it out" I now wear goggles!
Easy peasy fix on this vehicle !!!!!! The inside of the thermostat hole was spotless clean !!!! Very nice, good care of this vehicle. Loved the kitty visit, and the kitchen visit with Mrs. O. !!!!! Kids were awful quiet. I've been on the drive around Avoca many many times, so it's okay to skip showing a drive cycle now and then. Didn't hear the phone ring once in this video !!! Well done Eric !!! Nice cooking Mrs. O. !!!!!! There is nothing better than a venison lunch !!!!!! | : - )
Love me some cats. We (my wife and I) just adopted Mr. Leo. He's a very friendly kitty, but, sadly, he has chronic kidney failure. (That's why we adopted him - because nobody else would.) He drinks a LOT of water and pees a LOT ... but he's a very welcome and loved addition to our family. Glad to see you folks took in a stray kitty and made him a part of your family!

We old men (70+) were all teens in the '60's, so yeah! Some of us play the harmonica, but most of us sit around playing the guitar, because the fact is, back in the day, we all wanted to be in a rock 'n' roll band. So, we all bought a Sears Danelectro Silvertone and a Mel Bay Chords book and started a garage band. Mine was a heck of a lot of fun.
Eye protection! I'm on day four recovering from a scratched eyeball from a fleck of rust. 24 hours after getting a seemingly tiny and innocuous fleck of rust in my eye I couldn't drive due to extreme sensitivity to bright light. That's mostly passed, and it doesn't feel swollen any more, but it's still watering a bit and sore. I never did see the fleck come out of my eye. It did its damage, came out on its own, and left me in this state. Never experienced this before. Not at all pleasant and I definitely now have religion about safety glasses.
I can relate OP. Never realized the damage a fleck of rust can do. Ended up scratching my cornea and leaving a scar on it from a piece of rust that landed on my eye. Didn't find out until I got LASIK a few years later about the cornea damage + scar, and my doctor told me among other things that my scar was mm away from them having to perform PRK on that eye vs LASIK. Fortunately the scar is in a spot that does not effect my vision, and not visible to the naked eye.
Two of the three cats we have had in the past have walked in through the shop door. They must know we're hard on the outside and soft on the inside. Hi Mrs. O!
Vanessa is a woman of many talents - she keeps the business organised, comes out and banters on camera, answers the phone, keeps the troops fed and she still finds time to homeschool the children. Talk about wife of the year... Homeschooling is much better for kids than public school that's for sure.
You two folks are just so funny. I can see Mrs. O's wheels turning as you speak to her. You know she has some great come backs but, because the camera is rolling, she holds back and just gives the camera a quick little smile. Cracks me up every time. I have to say, I know it's not a peaches and cream relationship, non are, but the banter you to have is wonderful and I hope there's more of that, then arguments. Keep up the great work, in and out of the garage!!!!
I love when there's interaction btwn Mr. O. and Mrs. O. in these videos, it's so cute to see the flirtation and the coy glances. These 2 are the true "American Love Story" that we all hope to find. 😉👍
What a way to start my day with a video from S.M.A. Sherlock ( Mechanic of Auto) show starring Eric with cameos of his beautiful wife and new family member Kitty.

Oh, no, no, no Eric! There's already been too many episodes without the brakeleen and Fluid film sound effects lately, if you stop saying "not a sponsor" too it won't be SMA anymore. This was a good episode though, since both "Big Nasty" and Mrs O made an appearance (and thankfully put the kibosh on the singing section of the show. Phew, we dodged a bullet there!..). 😉👍

That's what's it's all about, having a good time while earning a living. Thank you Eric O and Mrs.O for all the wonderful videos and humor. God bless you all.
When you've been wrenching for long enough you get a very good feel for the amount of torque required for different fasteners in different locations. You also know where it is critical to pull out the torque wrench. I'll bet Eric's torqueing by hand is about as close as mine when I'm using a torque wrench!
What do you mean torque by hand, Eric O always torques to spec using a precisely calibrated torque wrench just like the service manual says he should, he just doesn't want to bore us with it 😉
@@stevewhite3424 Now it seems all the keyboard mechanics are all watching Rainman Ray (who is almost as good as Eric, tho he doesn't have to fight rust).
Ya "the cat scan," the reach around tool (and they work great!), the dropping parts in the bucket of coolant, the missing the bucket when draining the coolant. All funny because BTDT! HOWEVER, where's the eye protection? HHMMM???? Come on Mr. O! You gotta teach people right, and you are a teacher in these videos! Anyway, Good Job Mr. O, nice to see Mrs. O too, and the children and the cat!
I am only 4 minutes in and have had several laughs. You are in rare form today! I love it, keep up the informative and enjoyable videos! They are appreciated.
Have you priced a cat scan lately? I bet New York can scans are higher. Even semi-cat scans. And then you have to pay the guy who reads the scan and his assistant and his secretary and some other guy with BIG letters after his name.
I did this same job on my 2004 Ranger......down here in the south, we don't have rust issues......Craftsman ratchet set did the job just fine. My replacement parts were Energy Suspensions polyurethane, the orange parts which means high performance.
“Kinda disappointed with the lack of smoke…shoulda used the torch” 😂😂😂 Eric O. you the man I enjoy all the videos and the comedy that comes with them. Hope you have a great day!!!
Luna is adorable and has the cutest little squeak! Its funny how she was begging till she saw it was lettuce. My reaction to it would've been the same! Lol. Don't care for the crunchy water.
What’s it got mechanic man!!!!! Hey Eric O, if you read this thanks for doing what you do here on TH-cam. I’m in the field also and I’ve learned a lot on driveability/electrical from your videos. You would make a great teacher. I even watch videos on things I already do regularly to see if I can learn anything new. I wish there were more technicians like you out there, I’ve worked with way too many butcher hacks, sadly even at the 2 new car dealerships I worked at. You would think they would have better standards. You’re the best car channel on out there, keep it up. Also me and my wife also have a cat named Luna. But she’s super old and vomits hair balls quite often
Everyone loves when mrs O makes a cameo. She's so sweet

That legitimately made me laugh out loud

@@stevewhite3424 Now it seems all the keyboard mechanics are all watching Rainman Ray (who is almost as good as Eric, tho he doesn't have to fight rust).
@@61rampy65 I like his style too
3:25 Gotta love a video kitty that remembers her lines.
Thanks Eric for your time..Hello Mrs O..hello little ones ! ..
Giving props for the home schooling. A great way to keep your kids young and close to you. Plublik skool never did nuttin fo me.
I became edumacated.
I am only 4 minutes in and have had several laughs. You are in rare form today! I love it, keep up the informative and enjoyable videos! They are appreciated.
"No need for a cat scan." Lol, never gets old
I like to keep a Black Lab around for the free Lab work too!
Too late, cat scan already complete.
@southmainauto do you watch @JonathanW ?
Have you priced a cat scan lately? I bet New York can scans are higher. Even semi-cat scans. And then you have to pay the guy who reads the scan and his assistant and his secretary and some other guy with BIG letters after his name.
Thought I was seeing a "Signal Path" cameo...
Great video Mr O and may I say Mrs O is looking absolutely stunning as always
I did this same job on my 2004 Ranger......down here in the south, we don't have rust issues......Craftsman ratchet set did the job just fine. My replacement parts were Energy Suspensions polyurethane, the orange parts which means high performance.
“Kinda disappointed with the lack of smoke…shoulda used the torch” 😂😂😂 Eric O. you the man I enjoy all the videos and the comedy that comes with them. Hope you have a great day!!!
I put my safety glasses on while watching you grind that link🔥😎
Luna is adorable and has the cutest little squeak! Its funny how she was begging till she saw it was lettuce. My reaction to it would've been the same! Lol. Don't care for the crunchy water.
I’ve been getting the correct amount of smush that I need lately and I couldn’t be happier
That new pry bar looks like a happy flamingo.
