    Could you guys see how much pain Roy was in? What do you think - worth it? 😂
    Another big shout out to our new editor who is CRUSHING IT and helping us get videos out this fast!

      Thank you!! Haha at the start, I was super excited to be hiking on my birthday. By the end, I was ready to get off the mountain 😂 But now all I can remember are the great views and am ready to do it again 😆

    Beautiful hike guys! You seem like a lot of fun to hike with 🤩 Hard relate on the heavy backpack thing though. What really saved weight in my bag is replacing my meals with dehydrated meals that you can grab off Amazon! Then you only need to carry a burner and pot for water 👌🏼

      Thanks for watching! 😍 Haha well we bring the snacks and frequent breaks so if that's your vibe, then we could be fun 😆 Oh thank you, that's a great tip! We want to do some bigger hikes this year so that's going to be really helpful, along with a more lightweight camping setup I think.

    Oh, wow, that were beautiful views! What I nice hike. I also like to go hiking on my birthday - but in my area it's just a low mountain range. So no need for a tent - you always get back home. ;)

    I once hiked from Mt. Jōnen to Mt. Chōgatake when there was snow on the ground, and it was mentally taxing to reach a peak and then see a descent that ruined all the hard work and a wall of snow beyond.

    • @RoyandAimee
      @RoyandAimee  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Oh boy can totally understand that feeling! Except the snow would have made it feel so much worse, I'm sure!

    We climbed Chougatake I think a week after you guys and I also said the same thing about Godzilla Tree! Hahaha looks more like a T-Rex! Haha We didn’t get to see unkai like you did but the views were just as unreal. ☺️
    Awesome job on climbing Jonen! Jonen is a beast! Haha

      We stayed at a mountain lodge! I have a bit of an obsession over mountain lodges/huts in Japan in general. lol

    Great video! Is it compulsory to pitch your tent in the dedicated space? Or can you put your tent wherever? Thank you

    • @RoyandAimee
      @RoyandAimee  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! From our experience, pitching your tent anywhere is not something that is done in Japan very much. Generally, hikers stick to pitching their tent in the dedicated spaces.

  • @hotshot7771

    Hi congratulations, great video. Did you guys stay at Jonen hut for the night before getting down the next morning?

    • @RoyandAimee
      @RoyandAimee  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you for watching and the lovely comment! So we stayed the night in our tent at the summit of Chougatake, and hiked from Chogatake to the summit of Jonen-dake the next morning, and then went straight down the mountain after summiting Jonen-dake returning to our starting point from the day before. On the course we took Jonen hut was a 40 minute trek down Mt. Jonen, and then if we wanted to finish our round trip, we would've had to hike 40 minutes back UP Jonen, so we decided to skip the detour and keep going on our return course.
      Truth be told, going from Chogatake to Jonen and then straight down was very, veryyyyyy hard work for us. (You could probably see the pain in the video towards the end). If we had the time and the right conditions, staying at Jonen hut would've probably helped make the hike less painful.
      Hope this helps!

      @@RoyandAimee Oh wow, so now I understand, this is really tough, having to do so much in 1 day is no joke. Hats off to you guys. We were at Jonen Hut and trekked to Chogatake traversing over Mount Jonen dake on 15 Sep last year (very much about the same time as you). This leg alone was tiring, but we stayed at Chogatake hut for that night, and trek down to Kamikochi the next morning.
      This year in July, we trekked to Yarigatake via Kamikochi and Yarisawa, it was raining and windy for the most part. Luckily on that early morning 4.30am, the day of ascent to Yari peak, the sky cleared for us. ;-)
      Have fun and good luck to you guys in achieving all 100 famous Japanese peaks.

    I enjoyed watching your hiking videos in Japan. But I realised that many TH-camrs like yourself, never indicate the exact date of the video taken but rather just the date the video was uploaded on TH-cam. Or did I miss out somewhere? I apologized if I did miss out. If not, appreciate very much that you can indicate your dates on your itinerary so that we know what is the appropriate hiking dates available in Japan, as I understand March to early April may not be opened for Japan Alps hike. I’m heading there in early April next year.
    Thank you guys 🙏

    • @RoyandAimee
      @RoyandAimee  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there! Thanks so much for watching and for the comment! Really appreciate that dates on the video could be helpful, thanks for bringing it up. We’ll try and add those in on our hiking videos from now on 😊 This hike was on September 14/15. Yeah for March and early April, the alps are still completely covered in snow. For that time of year, mountains up to 2,000m (6,500ft) are your best bet. The taller of those will still have some snow on top so crampons would be good to have too.

    • @RoyandAimee

      Yes beautiful views but a lot of work haha. If you just did the first peak up and back without the second, then it’s probably a bit more doable 😊 Thanks for watching!
