  • Half wave rectifiers convert A.C. to D.C. by conducting for only half an input cycle. Let's learn how we can use a PN junction diode to build a simple half-wave rectifier circuit. In the next video we will build up on this to learn the full wave rectifier circuit using 2 diodes.

    Class 12 Semiconductors: We cannot imagine our life without computers today. But what makes a computer tick? What's making this technology grow at such an exponential rate? It's all due to semiconductors. As unbelievable as that might sound, altering the properties of semiconductors allows us to build these computers. In this topic, we will explore the world of semiconductors. It's a journey from what semiconductors are all the way to creating building blocks of these computers.

    With JEE Mains just almost 2 months away I was panicking. But as I am understanding these concepts I realise the very reason I loved Physics back in class 10. The fact that learning is actually pure joy... but the current scenario that makes us only think about writing the formula and getting the marks is just crushing the curiosity

      For real I trusted that channel blindly and when I couldn't understand I thought it was just because of my dumbness. Really regret it. And the funny part is that they take 1 hour teaching a certain topic and half of the time they're bragging about how great their channel is and here in only 10 minutes the concept is clear. No hate because well they're teaching for free so ofcourse I have no right to say anything against them but still I wasted a lot of my time and not all of the teachers there are careless some teach really well.

    i could'nt understand a single word of physics from my ncert textbooks and this subject was really becoming a bother for me. Khan Academy u explained what my teachers and textbooks couldn't make me understand. i can really for the first time relate all these concepts to real life practical situations. Thanks a million for making me learn, understand and love this subject. All the kids who don't know about khan academy are missing out on something incredible, and i hope that many more of us come here to study this subject. Hats off to you Sir!

    I've understood the concept really well. Thank you so much. However, I do have a question. According to the books I'm using, the diode is connected on the other wire, ie. before the load resistance. So in that case, what I don't understand is this: when the diode is reverse biased, wouldn't current pass through the resistor first and then the diode, which will stop it's flow? Wouldn't there be discharging in the load resistance then? Isn't it the same as not using a diode at all then?

    • @KhanAcademyIndiaEnglish
      @KhanAcademyIndiaEnglish  4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      When the diode is reverse biased, the circuit is open. Regardless of where the circuit is open the current won't flow.
      Imagine a circular road full of cars. If one car is unable to move, none of the cars can. Regardless of where the car is.
      Does that make sense? Feel free to ask for more clarity

    • @staira4515

      @@KhanAcademyIndiaEnglish Sir if a circuit doesn't work when a diode is reverse biased , then how did it work in bridge rectifier ? In bridge rectifier circuit , two diodes are reverse biased , so how did the cars move in that circuit then ? Hope you would reply soon
