    After dropping out from music school, I went on practicing by myself. As I was not properly instructed into the whys of singing, but just told to do stuff until it was good, I got used to go high in full chest voice, because there was nobody by my side telling me it was not the proper way of singing. Now I have to work to undo that, still by myself.

    I've bookmarked a lot of different singing exercise videos and this one is my new favorite. There isn't one particular exercise in it that I like the best - I just like the whole flow of it. I've been doing this video every day as a warm up, and then either singing songs I like, or spending time at the piano just singing notes and scales and different vowel sounds or whatever. I'm wanting to blow the cob webs out of my vocal sound and be able to sing stronger/clearer/higher. I think it's working. I'm now singing songs about a step higher than a month ago, and for me, that makes it sound better. Thanks for making these videos. I enjoy your positivity and sense of fun.

      This fantastic news! I'm so glad you're seeing these improvements in your voice. Your voice will definitely sounds richer and easier as you develop your mix voice further. What genre of music do you sing?

    • @kingcarmichael

      @@SpencerWelchVocalStudio I like to write and record songs as a hobby and they're often country-ish. I like American roots music like jazz, blues, country, soul, gospel, rock n roll. I like the standards a lot too. It's nice to hear a little improvement in my singing voice, but I think to really sing well would require a lot more time and effort than I'm putting into it. I'm also finding that when I press record, I tend to revert back and forget the things I've learned - it becomes more instinctual. -- Anyway, thanks again for sharing these great videos online. I'm finding them very helpful.

    started doing this after my usual daily routine of your other mix voice exercise video - i think i'll start doing this daily too!
    i play in a band (shameless plug, vids on my channel) and i'm trying to work on my head voice and my mix but i'm noticing that there's a sort of wall i have to climb between my chest and head voices, like a hard stop to my mix around my Ab4. these videos are definitely a big help but i'm still struggling with keeping it steady. the sustained note exercises here were revelatory. still got a ways to go before it's natural for me but it's a huge help. thanks again!!!

    • @SpencerWelchVocalStudio
      @SpencerWelchVocalStudio  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you're finding it helpful! And thanks for filling me in on what you're working on. It sounds like you're encountering your 2nd passage or bridge around Ab4, so there's another transition you have to go through at that point. Feel free to book a private lesson if you need some guidance.

      @@SpencerWelchVocalStudio The exercises that stood out for me were the Broken Octave Oh and the Octave and a half Uh. Those two were super hard as I went higher. I really appreciated the tips you gave about dropping our jaw as the notes went up to prevent flipping or gripping. I immediately felt my throat open and relax as I did this! Blew me away. It was such a simple fix but I would’ve never known this if it wasn’t for your video! The octave sustain bratty nay was a lot of fun too and a bit difficult. There were a lot of new exercises in your video that I have never seen before on TH-cam. You’re a brilliant teacher and I love how easily u correct us without even hearing us. You’re a true professional!! 🙏

    I know it comes down to practice ultimately, but do you have any advice on retraining your voice? I was so frustrated for so long about not progressing, until I met someone taking voice lessons and learned that I was taught COMPLETELY incorrectly in high school. I never even knew mix voice was a thing.
    I’m having a hard time visualizing what exactly is supposed to be going on in my mouth, throat and vocal chords, because I was taught to practically scream to belt, keep the widest open mouth possible, and punch the diaphragm every note. How do you practice unlearning the muscle memory and do things correctly?
    I try to identify what it feels like when I find mix now, but am unable to sustain it and I’m trying everything.

    big fan, i have a question, i’ve developed my chest voice quite a bit but how do i know when to start moving on to using head voice? they say that if you start using head voice too early you could potentially lose notes on your chest. so how do i know when i’m ready ? i’ve expanded my chest far enough to where i’m almost in a mix voice at high notes.

    • @SpencerWelchVocalStudio
      @SpencerWelchVocalStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question, and unfortunately, I can't give you an answer without listening to you and working with you in a lesson. It can't be appropriately put into words alone. Overall, my philosophy is that most men already have enough chest voice naturally because of where they speak. So most guys should start developing their head voice and mix voice right away in lessons. Otherwise, it would be like only training your triceps every time you go to the gym, but never your biceps.

    How can I be sure it's mixed voice? I feel like I'm just thining my voice and squeezing it, just not in a louder way like I do when I try tu push chest... I'm really struggling to extend my range, is that the baritone curse? Haha

    • @SpencerWelchVocalStudio
      @SpencerWelchVocalStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you've never felt mixed voice before or had an experienced vocal coach lead you there, you might not be able to tell if you're doing it or not. If you really are a baritone (many men who think they are, aren't) it can be more challenging to thin out for the high notes, but all my baritone students learn to mix. They vocalize up to C5 at least, and sing songs with G and A4 as the top high notes.

      I wouldn't call that an adaptation. The title of the video is "advanced mix voice workout" so the point is to sing in your chest and mix voice. Is there a part of it that you feel directs you to "switch to head"?

    You’ve such good practicing exercises, and I do it everyday. But the only problem is your speak too much in between thrills, and it’s hard to concentrate on notes and breaths when your voice comes in between. Please control yourself from speaking while playing piano, you can speak as much as you want before or after the thrills, but not in between. Ik for someone it gives a good push to try more harder, but some it really doesn’t helps at all and we’ve see both the perspectives and make ourselves settle in between. Thankyou for these great lessons!

      I'm glad you like the exercises. Thanks for your feedback; however, most subscribers disagree with you. They prefer working with my videos because I do talk during the exercises, reminding them of where they are in their voice and what they need to do at each point. I'm sorry if you find this distracting, but as you gain more experience singing, you will probably grow to appreciate the commentary. I won't be changing how I create my videos, but thanks for your opinion.

    Hello Spencer.
    I like your channel, especially all that good energy. A lot of fun so thank you!
    However I am not seeing any actual singing.
    It would be of tremendous benefit for people looking for a vocal coach to actually hear that coach sing some live songs from end to end.
    Songs that represent and showcases that coaches abilities so that the student have something to aspire towards.
    As Eintstein said; Demonstration isnt a way to teach, its the only way to teach.
    Looking forward to hearing from you!
