There is no quality located in either one of these areas of animation.
Didn't SEK also make that Squirrel and Hedgehog propaganda TV series for North Korea? Yeah. There's connections between Vixen the evil fox lady and Tentacles the dog-faced octopus.
Given that several characters change names between those movies: Baron Van Der Tilt/Maltravers, Razorteeth/Ice, Tentacles/Otti. It’s safe to say those movies are their own brand of madness.
I just treat it like alternate universes, because the continuity gets wacky if look into the jungle book and simba where Sher Khan died in the jungle book but appears in Simba and Golden child.

Not that it matters almost 4 years later, but I think I finally understand how the tree teleportation works. They said they cannot take Ari to the North Pole because trees cannot grow there. So the trees can only take them places where other trees grow. Meaning that the demon trees can magically connect through other trees around the world for their teleportation. It's kind of like in fantasy stories where mirrors and other reflections (such as water) are connected, so you can travel to different places through mirrors so long as another mirror present at the location you want to travel to. It's a neat concept, and I like the idea of trees being spiritually linked to one another. I don't know if the Golden Child series better explained how the tree suff worked, or if it was just assumed people would make that connection on their own. Either way, it took me this long to make any sense of the nonsense of Mondo
Jewel riders had that type of magical trees that could teleport people between them, and the game, Elena kingdom, had ancient teleport stones that magic trees grew around so it's like the trees could teleport.
Like, in Japanese characters do make weird unnecessary noises, but it's not that often or bad. BUT oh man, english dubs....I couldn't stand watching most anime until I got in college and started watching things subbed...It was like oh yeah, they keep going "mmmm, ah, oh, uuuuhhh" to fill in mouth flaps, Jesus, nice to not hear that anymore.
Watch an English dub but don't look at the screen. The parts with the "oohhh!" and "aaahhhhh!" get really bizarre... And can come across as sexual sounds. They do happen in the original dubs too, but not as often.
And so at last Phelous dips into the absolute insanity that is the Mondo TV Shared Universe. A surprise to be sure, but _definitely_ a welcome one. Also the dog is adorable. Yours, not the ones in the movie.
32:36 ...yes, actually, the reindeer's name is actually supposed to be Donder, not Donner. If you go back and read the poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas"* by Clement Clark Moore, thar deer's name is spelled "Donder" like the Dutch word for 'thunder,' and is paired with Blitzen, named after the German word for 'lightning.' * = commonly referred to as "Twas the Night Before Christmas," after its opening line.
It’s...strange. This kinda seems like the shadow of a pretty cool story. Like this jungle kid getting confused and taking things too literally in the city, trying to find out the names of all the reindeer because of some offhanded question Santa’s helper gave to him. The dog telling Ari all about the evil dog catcher who wants to get him, only to find out the the dog catcher really likes animals. Well, maybe not a really cool story, but sound like this could have been charming, at least. I’d like to see this movie done by some other, competent studio.
I was squinting and grimacing the entire time watching the Mondo clips. How can you stand even five minutes of this crazy shit, let alone review it? You must be a mighty strong-brained man, Mr. Phelous.
The Mondo series Angel's friends is obviously made as a competitor to Winx Club, another magical girl series from Italy. What makes it funnier is for the English dub they get Liza Jacqueline (Bloom's 4Kids voice) to voice the lead angel, Raf, who is pretty much Bloom with blond hair and Lisa Ortiz (Musa and Icy) to voice Miki (who looks a lot like Musa) and Cabiria.
It kinda makes me wonder: what would it be like if GoodTimes' Rudolph was animated by the same animation studio as this, the North Korean SEK Studio (in its native country, it is also known as the "Korean (Joseon; North Korea still refers to itself as Joseon) April 26th (after the date when the Korean People’s Army was created) Animation Studio").
It's almost criminal, watching clips of Veronica Taylor's talented voice acting in the series, and then switching to that pitch-shifted garbage from the film.
This entire video was amazing; phelous' commentary, the movie itself! I lost track of how many times I burst into laughter when something completely random and nonsensical happened (the back n forth byes being the highlight). Also, Fox's series voice sounds like Roger Craig Smith.
If you're ever interested in jumping down another North Korean-related cinematic hole, you may want to check out "Ten-Zan: The Ultimate Mission", which is a 1987 Italian-North Korean action film directed by Ferdinando Baldi, a veteran director of Italian Westerns and other genre films, stars an international cast featuring Mark Gregory(best known as "Trash" in the "Bronx Warriors" pair of flicks), and shot on location in North Korea. I understand it's outside of your usual fare, but it's available in English on TH-cam on the Film and Clips channel, and you may find viewing it as much of a "unique" experience as this is.

@@rezalustig6773 Hey, can you explain how it work when people visit North Korea. Ive seriously been curious of the fact its possible and wanted to know how you keep safe, etc.
@@Jude300c I’ve never been, but one would typically go sponsored by either their employer and the NK government jointly, or one of the tour groups approved by the NK government. Most transportation seems to involve flying into Pyongyang from China. It has been possible for US citizens to visit, but I’m not sure if that applies to date. As for safety, that’s mostly a given because your movement would be monitored and controlled as much as possible. Guy Delisle basically had to go everywhere with a government-assigned translator and driver. If you’re with a tour group, there’s a set itinerary of activities and visits the government wants you to stick to (picked for propaganda value, like museums about the Korean War). You’re probably safe as long as you don’t get any bright ideas about going out of the hotel on your own, playing any pranks or making clever remarks about NK or the Kim dynasty. Oh, and from what I’ve seen/read, it seems to be a tradition to bring a gift for your chaperones (preferably some kind of luxury liquor and/or cigarettes; both North and South Koreans drink like fish and smoke like chimneys).

Quote from wikipedia “Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet and Cupid, and the final two ‘Dunder’ and ‘Blixem’ (meaning "thunder" and "lightning" in colloquial New York Dutch).” The first time Dunder or Donder (spelling changed) and Blixtem were called “Donner and Blixten” is in the 1940s Rudolph song which used the German version of their names to rhyme better.

A Christmas gift of confusing animation with nonsensical and WAY too deep a lore?
Awwwn, and I brought you nothing.
You shouldn't, Phelous. ♥️
That moment when you've grown up on anime and you're used to the weird "ahhh !" "ooooh !" "eeee" ! "hmmm" ! sounds.
I've grown up on it and am used to it but it still never stopped sounding awkward and annoying.
They did that to fill in the blanks for the mouth flaps right?
@@Zxzero36 Yep.
Me, having seen Saberspark's review of the movie:
Oh god, Phelous...honey, no...please, don't end it like this, you have so much to live for!!
Even the dog was "I'm out you're on your own"
And so at last Phelous dips into the absolute insanity that is the Mondo TV Shared Universe. A surprise to be sure, but _definitely_ a welcome one.
Also the dog is adorable. Yours, not the ones in the movie.
Your chihuahua is adorable! Much cuter than the dogs in the movie XD
32:36 ...yes, actually, the reindeer's name is actually supposed to be Donder, not Donner. If you go back and read the poem "A Visit from St. Nicholas"* by Clement Clark Moore, thar deer's name is spelled "Donder" like the Dutch word for 'thunder,' and is paired with Blitzen, named after the German word for 'lightning.'
* = commonly referred to as "Twas the Night Before Christmas," after its opening line.
This just makes me appreciate Veronica Taylor more.
WOW. Irony by accident.
Great! A ripoff of a ripoff... We all know that W.i.t.c.h. is superior to both shows
@@nostalgiaworks5999 winx's pilot was from 1999 tho.

This makes Good Times look like Rankin/Bass specials.
That is a big oof from me!
It really makes you appreciate her great voice acting.
Exactly what is the point of all this stuff anyway~?
"New-style" Ari sounds like an alien...
Saberspark and Rickraptor have gone down the Mondo hole-it's a trap! IT'S A TRAP! DINGO IS JUST A DROP IN THE POND IN COMPARISON!
Well, Angels Friends is pretty good in a "So Bad it's Good" way
I don't know, Saber seems to think Dingo is far worse
Now we need all 3 to review something regarding Mondo together and the unholy trinity will be complete
Something WORSE THAN DINGO????
@@wastelandlegocheem Not animation-wise, but in terms of sheer length
Covering the Legend of Titanic guys? It’s a Christmas miracle!
Yes!! Let’s pressure the Phelan to plough through those ghastly offensive titanic-themed beasts!!
Golden Child is Ash's half-brother
Ash: I don't talk about him..... He has issues
Gotta say though that dialogue in Ash's voice is absolute gold.
Well you never see Ash's father, right? It's because he's off being a king in where ever the Mondoverse is
@@flightlesschicken7769 Of course, that explains so much!
This entire video was amazing; phelous' commentary, the movie itself! I lost track of how many times I burst into laughter when something completely random and nonsensical happened (the back n forth byes being the highlight). Also, Fox's series voice sounds like Roger Craig Smith.
This "Christmas" movie is more dysfunctional than the Tech N9ne song
This movie should be called "Taking The Piss."
27:41 I love the sound of genuine amusement in phelous's voice every time he says Bimbo's name.
Phelous, your dog is soooooo cute! The dog helped ground me after bearing witness to the "movie"
Check out Guy DeLisle’s “Pyongyang”: he’s a Québécois animator who lived in NK for two months to oversee a SEK animation team. He drew and wrote the graphic novel describing his (mis?)adventures, including stuff about his career.
@@rezalustig6773 I've heard about that.
@@rezalustig6773 Thanks for sharing that. I imagine the smokes and drink is something the individual can atleast automomous control over.
Ive looked at pictures and saw that NK is definitely beautiful

32:00 fun fact Donder was Donner’s original name in the 1800s. Quote from wikipedia “Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet and Cupid, and the final two ‘Dunder’ and ‘Blixem’ (meaning "thunder" and "lightning" in colloquial New York Dutch).”
The first time Dunder or Donder (spelling changed) and Blixtem were called “Donner and Blixten” is in the 1940s Rudolph song which used the German version of their names to rhyme better.
