"Hwaa" is the third of a trilogy of songs, depicting the break-up of a relationship, the despair over the decision, and the final rise and blooming of a new life for the singer. Listen to them in order : "Hann (Alone)", "Hann (Alone in WInter)", and "Hwaa".

To me, looks like the first chorus choreo is the flower blooming, where the dance at the end is the fiery flower in full bloom.

I'm not Korean, but i think the last dance, in orange/red, is just to dance flames in a fire (Hwaa = fire in last chorus). But maybe i'm wrong since years, that wouldn't be first time with (G)I-Dle 😊
Hwaa is the end of a trilogy : Hann (Alone), Hann (Alone in winter) and Hwaa. Alone in winter is always piercing my heart, instrumental really IS winter.

Funnily enough, in relation to your question about the choreography- the song is actual very traditionally written in terms of lyrics. The Korean is in the style of what we could compare to Old English where if you're not a native speaker, the translations and meanings are harder to grasp. It's sort of like a poem instead of a song.

I don't know much about the choreography but in I-Talk#80 Soojin said that at the end of this song, they became "fire" so the dance move should represent a fire itself and that's why they all dressed in red. And if you notice the first Hwaa is "fire" so the hand gesture symbolizes the fire and the last Hwaa is "flower" and their gesture symbolizes flower blooming.
But in the first Hwaa (fire) they close the chorus with "bloom a flower" but in the second Hwaa (flower) and close it with Shuhua's "light up the fire" That's why they became Fire. And once again at the very end of the song, the "bloom a flower" part comes again when they use it as the final step.
That's all I know but maybe they have more reasons but yeah just them and the choreographer know the true meaning behind all that moves.

I can't believe I missed this livestream! I've been hoping you would discover this video for a long time. This is classic G-Idle in all its glory.
They are one of my top 3 groups. Mamamoo, G-Idle, and Dreamcatcher.
Everyone in G-I Idle is an amazing artist and Soyeon is mind-bogglingly talented.

for me, the dance and especially the dance break at the end pretty much show the message of the song... so they sing about all the stuff and then right before the dance break they say "light up a fire". then everything is red, implying that it is exactly that fire they mentioned before but the dance is so smooth and beautiful that for me it implies that you can still see the beauty in things despite all bad things. that's what the dance is about for me personally

the choreo generally references flower and fire, cuz hwaa can be both fire and flower. the concept is basically them coming out of the freezing winter of a breakup, blooming into a flower, and burning up in their most glorious moment. which is also why the ending is so sudden, cuz they will burn up with all their energy to light up the world even just for a moment

Yeah like some said in the comments, the dances resemble the flower and at the end it’s the fire.

In Korean, the pronunciation hwa(화) has more than two meanings
In this song, it was used to mean flowers(花) and fire(火).
It can be interpreted as a wish for spring to come and bloom by burning the cold winter.

Just like other comments points out, Hann (one), Hann (alone in winter), and Hwaa (fire/flower) are trilogy. These 3 songs have shown a personal evolution, but also all stem from a well-known peom: Azaleas flowers, by poet Kim So-wol.
From this article I googled “The Most Beloved Poet of Korea, Kim So-wol < Cover Story < Cover Story < 기사본문 - The Yonsei Annals”
    Quote:
Kim grew up to portray the *Han* sentiment through a female voice in his most well-known poems, including “Azaleas.”
When you turn away from seeing me
    and go,
gently, without a word, I shall send you away.
    From Mount Yak in Yongbyon,
Azaleas I shall gather an armful and scatter them on your way.
    Step after step away
    On those flowers placed
before you, press deep, step lightly, and go.
When you turn away from seeing me
    and go,
though I die, no, not a single tear shall fall.
    - “Azaleas”
The poem and the Han are embedded in all lyrics of these three songs. But Hwaa seems to be the most obvious one, such as:
“though I die, no, not a single tear shall fall.”
(Soojin) I shall ignite a fire (fire of rebirth?), so that my tears dwelling inside won’t live any longer
“Azaleas I shall gather an armful and scatter them on your way.
    Step after step away
    On those flowers placed
before you, press deep, step lightly, and go. “
(Soeyeon) I shall never let your (leavings do hurting?) trace leave a mark.
(Soeyeon) Strp the withered flower path
And our girls keep talking the Han and spring:
(Soojin) To win back the spring I’ve lost
(Soeyeon) Shall burn the resentment left undone
(Soeyeon) Once I untangle Hann, shall feel the spring once again.
(Soeyeon) To win back the spring I’ve lost
From the perspective of evolution, the messages from the three songs are quite clear.
    1. Han(alone): “I will never forget you, and you will regret.” (however, we can feel the loneliness and desperation in the song and whistle). And this captures the exact same emotion of the poem (the narrator deceive herself and the one who left her, and with great resentment/Hann)
    2. Hann (alone in the winter) The narrator *admits* she told a lie about erasing all the things about the one left. The pain of missing and resenting makes she feel sticks - and she want the spring to come again.
    3. Hwaa: the narrator decided to let go.
IMO, the most interesting part is the “reverse process” of the order “resentment” and “spring”.
So Azaleas flower bloom in spring, in the poem, the flowers (the narrator) has withered - which means the spring has gone. So the plant fall all the way to winter, got frozen/tangled with Hann/resentment.
Now in Hwaa, the narrator has determined to bloom again (like a Azaleas flower blooms in spring) - so she “untangle Hann”, “burn the resentment”, even with the price of “burning herself” - in shushu’s scene, the fire become flower petal, just like a phoenix burn itself to reborn - even a broken heart as fragile and delicate as flower can endure the fire to rebut as well!
BTW, the withering tree and braid make me believe the narrator is the Azaleas flower...but Azaleas flower is short and the tree is TALL - or maybe they just want to show the frozen -strength of the flower?

So the choreography in the chorus got some modern dance (tree and flower-blooming). And the last part has some folks dance to show “celebration of freedom”.

Hwaa has 3 meaning. Thats why the Hwaa became Flower at the end while it was Fire in the beginning.
Even Koreans have a hard time Disecting the lyrics because the meaning is so deep.
Thats why Soyeon is called a Genius by the Kpop Korean Idols.

The three different choreos symbolize Winter, Flower and Fire. Hwaa (as many mentioned) means Flower and Fire, and the mini album I BURN was released in January, winter time. ☺ The mini album also has 3 versions with the same themes.

I was getting ready while listening to this and didn't watch until you paused and asked about cultural relevance.
I am not Asian, but the beat and the brief bit of dancing I saw from the rewind reminded me of Bollywood. Not being very familiar with other Asian cultures' dances/music, I find that I think that frequently with the girl groups' sounds & dances.
Again, not a lot for me to draw from my experience, so feel free to educate me😁
