Breaking out of Lockdown to do some more jobs - COVID makes me crazy, but welding can be therapeutic

  • Well like most people, I guess all these lockdowns got a bit much for me and being stuck working from home led to some level of agoraphobia. So when travel restrictions eased - I ran to the port before anyone could stop me.
So this was back in April 2021 and the final bit of footage is the new bow at sea in July. So yes, I cut open the bow again... However I did do a lot of other things too. It was great to have a sense of direction, purpose and control over life again.
Anyway as you can see from my hand - wear gloves! Not for safety, but just to avoid the difficulty and hassle of trying to work with a huge bloody patch on your hand. Wet blasting with that was really uncomfortable.
So I will try to upload some video from my trips to sea, life has become a bit of a mush, but in case you are wondering the new bow is really nice and just made for a smoother flow. When I ran into rocks (as you do) the anode being in a box kept it out of harm's way and getting some rusty patches fixed just makes her look a lot more cared for.
Future plans are that I need to take down the mast and check fittings as it has been many years since I put it up (20 years) and some of the rigging was second hand then! In July I fitted a hot water system, did some more paint and fine tuned the sail control. She is getting very close to being ready - ready for what I have no idea, but at least she will be ready.
Welding is via an Oxford Wigmaker 200 amp on 220 volts single phase with SG3 steel wire or 309Lsi stainless wire. Gas in 8% CO2 and 92% Argon.
Plasma cutter is a Hypertherm single phase unit that cuts easily up to 6.3mm. I use a small 2hp compressor for the air supply to that.
