    Columbus resident here, you hit it right on the head! Our gun laws are pretty good in Ohio. We have permitless carry now too, which is awesome. It has actually dropped mugging and robbery rates in some areas in Ohio. Criminals just don't know whether somebody is packing or not!

    Always found the silencer restrictions completely pointless, especially since in most states and towns you are required by law to have a functioning muffler on your vehicle for noise reasons and if you don't you can get pulled over and you won't pass your vehicle inspections but their states that say you have to have a muffler on your car but if you want to put one on your firearm so you don't annoy your neighbors You're not allowed to and if you make one it's 10 years in prison.

    Imagine if the government put a 9% tax on cars "to help victims of drunk driving". There would be rioting in the streets.
    (Also, like this 9% tax on guns, we all know what that money would really be going to: right back to the state.)

    Not a single one of these dumb laws do anything to actually hold criminals accountable for their actions.
    These laws have nothing to do with addressing violent crime and everything to do with civilian disarmament.

    • @nightrunnerxm393
      @nightrunnerxm393 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      True, but if COVID has taught us anything, our "democracy" is exceptionally good at using fear and ignorance in order to enact draconian policies in the name of "safety." That indicates a strong need to focus on cultural shifts away from safetyism and into an acceptance that bad things happen and one ought to be prepared to face them rather than have the government "remove" them. While dealing with the legislative problems _is_ a worthwhile fight, it's not the only one, and probably not the most important one in the bargain.

    Is it that they think that firing pins can’t be replaced or can’t be purchased elsewhere and replaced? Even better. Someone goes to a firing range and picks up 10 different shell casings of all the same caliber and leaves them all at the scene of a crime… Now what?

    • @Mihail2204
      @Mihail2204 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If 3 shots are recorded and there’s 11 different firing pin indents on casings it is pretty easy to find out which of those casings are actually from the shooting. The rifling is also unique to models and calibers, so if there’s rifling on the projectiles they’ll find out what make and model it was shot from and look at the casings to see which ones they were fired from

    • @EverettVinzant
      @EverettVinzant 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Mihail2204 So where did I say “3 shots,” where did I say recorded, and what prevents someone from policing up two of the shots?
      Next while the rifling matters on the bullet, it comes from a replaceable barrel. Why are we wasting our time/money with micro stamping? Because we don’t always get the bullet, and barrels can be replaced obviously…

    • @Mihail2204
      @Mihail2204 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@EverettVinzant you edited the comment, but so what the barrel can be swapped, the rifling and casing will still have the same marks as the make and model, take a glock as an example, they leave a very distinct firing pin dent and other marks on the casing, the rifling is always the same on the barrels aswell unless you buy a very niche barrel which can be easily traced back to the person who bought it(I’ve seen it happen)

    • @EverettVinzant
      @EverettVinzant 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Mihail2204 Wrong, you can swap the hex barrel of a Glock with one that is rifled. So now your make/model theory is blown isn’t it? I’ve spoken with Federal agents (as a Glock armorer) that have said your example is when they get lucky. It’s trivial to get a “niche” barrel and not have it recorded.
      Please, keep trying. And it’s trivial to make sure you get used brass from someone with the same make and model as your firearm…
      I can’t go to a firing range without seeing someone shoot a 9mm Glock…

    And at the same time a new tax on guns and ammo is coming up in CO, that same legislature is looking to impose mandatory liability insurance, too. Guess they figure that if they can't ban everything, they'll at least make it prohibitively expensive. Gotta love how it's all motivated by "safety" and yet just ends up making everyone _more_ vulnerable, not less.

    NY resident here. I don't believe we have to have micro stamping, but I could be wrong. The "SAFE" Act counts a detachable mag as a feature and it can't have any other (for rifles). As a NYS resident as well there are many perks to living in this state that outsiders don't understand nor see. It's a rust belt state with a high quality of living, growth in some regions, and public schools a decade or 3 ahead of some southern states. States like TN that are using 90's tech, corporal punishment (never gets used for it's true intentions and abused more often then not), limited clubs, and few sports options. I pick the former over the latter as I've lived in both.

    Interesting tidbits. 40 years ago, Colorado had no waiting period, and the only restriction was you had to be a Colorado resident for 30 days to purchase. Home invasions were unheard of. Times have changed.
    Here in Indiana, we can carry open or concealed. Easy peasy. When I travel back to my home state known as the Peoples Republic of Illinois, I cannot carry without an unconstitutional and draconian FOID card. But it gets worse.
    My backup is a Byrna SD less lethal. CO2 powered, .68 caliber. Pepper balls or kinetic rounds. And yes, they are effective in a bad situation. Ordinarily, I'd carry that as an alternative for visits to Illinois. BUT... Illinois has stopped that not only by restricting pepper balls, but also has a law banning anything that "looks like" a firearm.
    The point being: When you travel, carefully investigate the state and local laws in areas when traveling away from home. Don't get caught by surprise.

    NYS has an altered version of castle doctrine, its duty to retreat. Meaning even if you are in your own home and a violent actor is intruding, you cannot respond with lethal force if you have an opportunity to flee safely. Even if they are shooting, the only case you can respond with lethal force as a civilian is if you have no opportunities to flee safely.
    I might be a democrat but I don't agree with the gun laws. If your in such a situation it's easier for an attorney to romanticize easy opportunities to flee, then it is for the person in that situation. Policy and technicalities are nice on the surface to preserve life, but practicality is very different and a law like this can get someone innocent killed.

    Having a license to sell firearms and firearm accessories makes sense, but a lot of the other gun laws are nothing more than bureaucratic bullshit to get people in trouble over nothing. Stand Your Ground laws make sense, but Duty To Retreat laws only lead to a higher unalive count. Banning shooting ranges in an area where it may be too dangerous for the shooters to be there makes sense, but that's the ONLY time it makes sense. The only difference between a suppressor and a muffler is the application, with mufflers being on vehicles and suppressors being on firearms. A BB gun is a great training tool, but they should require the muzzle or any other barrel tip to be painted orange like with an airsoft gun to make it obvious it's not a gun that takes bullets. Pellet guns should also have an orange muzzle or barrel tip for the same reason. Castle doctrines are just as great as Stand Your Ground laws, and go hand in hand with those. The Assault Weapons Ban only managed to piss people off, and magazine restrictions only serve to make people buy more magazines to carry the same number of rounds they always have.

If you have a actual safe or something like that and it’s stolen that’s one thing but if you have a Glock in the glovebox or a ar laying on the back seat and you have a ton of gun manufacturing stickers or something like that you should know you are advertising HEY I HAVE WEAPONS IN THE VEHICLE!
