Great video & tour of one of my favorite places to ski in the world, Zermatt. To anyone thinking about visiting in winter, you should learn to ski in order to enjoy all of Zermatt as well as Cervinia, Italy. We stay at the Zermatterhof Hotel which is magical. They even pick you up at the train in a horse drawn sleigh. Zermatt is a Swiss fantasy.
This video is so helpful, I'm going to Zermatt in January. My wife is not much of a skier so would like to take her on some of your recommendations.. Thank you!
Hi - good video, but just to point out to you that you can't (really) ski into France from Zermatt like you said. It is about 40 miles away, and whilst technically possible it would take many days of cross country skiing to make it. Italy, yes, as Cervinia is just over the border and easy to connect.
Thank you so much for such detailed information, I’m going now in April and I was kind of scared as to how to get to the Glacier Palace and the cable cars. Thank you!!!!
@@BrittChrisTravel only thing I can say to that, as I have been skiing for over 50 years now, is to next go to a better suited resort that caters to family skiing more. Zematt does have something for everyone but it's sheer size can be overwhelming. Plus there is a multitude of much.more affordable options as in destination resorts for skiing.
If you want, you can hire one of the electric cars to come get you. But the town was so small. We just walked from the train station to our hotel, which was probably only a 5 to 10 minute walk since the town is so small. I would contact your hotel to see what transportation options they have from the train if you’re concerned.
Hi there , im just looking for some information about visiting IGLU dorf for the day like yourselves please . We will be in Zermatt . how much is it to get there by the train , and do you pay to walk around IGLU Dorf itself ? thank you . Keith
You will take the Gornergrat train which is about 22 CHF according to their website www.zermatt.ch/en/zermatt/experience/detail/Gornergrat-Ticket-Winter-TDS00020013659940046?globalReset=1&lang=en#/ You do not need to pay anything to walk around IGLY Dorf itself! There are no tickets just food options you can buy while you are there. Here is their website that may help explain more along with walking directions. www.iglu-dorf.com/en/location/zermatt
We went in January and it was cold, but not super cold. I think the high was about 45 degrees Far. We had to take off our ski jackets since we got hot while skiing.
Have been on my list for a few years now, Switzerland is so so expensive though. Did people bring skis on the train? Thinking of bringing my board if I ever go.
You can ski into Cervinia Italy but not into France not sure where she got that. I have been there and I am a PSIA Level 3 instructor(the highest level there is) you go to the top of the Klien Matterhorn (Glacier Paradise I assume) and can ski directly down into Cervinia named after Monte Cervinio (Italian for Matterhorn) which I did when I was there. But this is a good video. Grooming is great at Zermatt not sure why she was talking about ice but anything is possible. Oh and piste pronounced peeste not pissed . it's also a very honest video.
great video, honestly this gave me all the information I needed to plan my trip. My only question is that I'm only staying in Zermatt for one day, do you think I can do the last 6 mins of your video route within one day? thankyou!
Thank you! So glad our video helped. If you have a full day and you can ski I think you can do all of these things if you start first thing in the morning and watch the ski lift times, but it would be rushed! If you plan it out and cannot do all of the things, the I would skip the findlehoff restaurant since the other things are really cool!
hey guys. thank you for sharing these info. kindly can you tell if someone travel in the car where we can go upto? which one is best hotel which is near to travel to zermatt?
Do we have to do the eight hours of glacier express? What if we don’t have time? Also, travelling in Switzerland seems to involve moving hotels quite a lot. How can we capture the beauty of Switzerland without changing hotels too often? I have an elderly with me. Great channel! Thanks
No you do not need to do 8 hours on the Glacier express. You can get on at anyone of their stops, so you pick where you want to get on and off at. The link to their site is here. www.glacierexpress.ch/en/ What we did was ride the glacier express one day to Zermatt so we could see all of Switzerland, and then we only stayed in Zermatt so we would not have to change hotels. If you are traveling with an elderly person be careful in winter since there can be snow/ice on the sidewalks!
Food: It was pricey to eat out, about $15 to $20 per meal. Zermatt is known for having Michelin star restaurants so you can end up spending a lot. We only ate at a few times since the prices were high. Our favorite places we ate Findlerhof which is number 4 in the video, the Roti was about $15 each. My other favorite was the igloo Fondue which is number 3. We went to Cooper grocery store where they had pre-made items that were a lot cheeper. Accommodation: Sadly, the hotel we stayed at is now closed. It was called Sunstar Hotel. I think they may be redoing it so hopefully it will reopen. We like to use hotels.com for booking though since you can find great prices and get stamps you can redeem later! Let me know if you have any more questions!

Hello, thanks for filming and the information 🫶🏽 how long do you were there? Because we want to go there too but only for 2 Days maybe, is it enough to see and experience the most things of your list? 🫶🏽
I think we were there for 4 nights and 5 days! We packed everything in those days so you maybe rushed with only 2 days. Just pick the things you really want to see/do since you will not be able to do all of them. The good thing though is it gives you a reason to go back eventually!
so pretty! with all the trains you took on the trip, did you book them in advance or could you just turn up there with your swiss pass and get on a train?
We did booked all of our trains in advance! It made it a lot less stressful during your trip, but the only train you really need to book in advance is the Glacier express. You could probably just hop on the other trains without booking in advance
If you are scared of heights I would not recommend skiing since the mountains are pretty steep, but you should be fine for the glacier paradise! Its about 12,740 feet above sea level, so pretty high!
I would recommend a minimum of 3 days! there's a lot to do even if you are not skiing like sliding, hiking, and tons of attractions to visit in the small town. We stayed 5 days and only went skiing one day and we still never ran out of things to do.
If I’m arriving at Geneva airport what’s the best stop for me to get on the glacier express to Zermatt I’ve been pulling my hair throwing my itinerary together 😅
That’s so exciting! We actually took a train from Italy to Switzerland and never went to Geneva so we aren’t sure. But you should check the path of the glacier express and see if there is a train that can take you to one of those stations from Geneva
Can I ask if you stayed in the same hotel the whole time in Zermontt? Did you have to take taxi to travel to the destinations you shared or did you manage with the cheapest travel option (not sure what it will be?… train? Bus?)
We did stay in the same hotel the entire time in Zermatt! We never rode in a taxi, the town is so small you can walk the entire thing easily. We took the gongerat train to get up into the mountains when we hiked but that was it. We took the glacier express into Zermatt, which is not the cheapest to get there but it is worth it. Let me know if you have any more questions!
I'm glad you said that! She kept saying Zermont so much I thought she really thought it was Mont and not Matt! One time sounded like she said Vermont! I had to stop watching!
Do you mean Riedweg viewpoint? If so this explains how to get there www.zermatt.ch/en/Media/Attractions/Viewpoint-Riedweg. If that’s not what you are talking about let me know!
The Swiss travel pass will give you half off of the current price, the link to the train is here since the price may change gornergratbahn.zermatt-tickets.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiA76-dBhByEiwAA0_s9TfVXLUUGXk078zqKgG_OcRB2xZ7go8g919If0QdVy50ylznSWkGXRoCnbIQAvD_BwE
You can get the international ski pass to ski into Italy! You cannot ski from Zermatt to France! Eat fondue in town so the cheese will stay hot and taste better! Rothorn and Kleinmatterhorn Restaurants are mediocre at best! To experience why Zermatt is the #1 ski resort in the world (in my opinion) you need to be able to ski at a moderate level! My computer countdown says ”32” and I will be back for the 28th time. Can’t wait!
Oh I guess you could but it stops outside of town and then you would have to get another electric taxi to get to your hotel! We found the train was the easiest and most relaxing.
Daam how expensive this it. If I traveled to Switzerland they should take every dollar I have for the rest of my life. Nooh when I be millionaire then can i travel to Switzerland.
It’s one of the more expensive places, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done cheaply! We flew into Milan for about $700 and took the train into Switzerland to save money. Eating out was pricey so we started eating premade meals from the grocery store. If you plan it right it’s not that expensive!
Excellent video. Zermatt is definitely a city with a unique and breathtaking beauty in the whole world. As such, I only add one point for everyone who sees this video. Natural beauty is free, but what is respectfully served to all visitors is the fruit of a lot of hard, hard work. Most of the people who live there, live to serve for the welfare of visitors. Therefore, respect them. Collect between 500chf and 1000chf and be kind to workers who dedicate all their energy and health to your well-being. If someone carries your 25kg bags for you, why not thank that person with a 10chf or 20chf bill? If a ski instructor lifts you off the ground and helps you on with your boots, why not thank them with a 20chf bill or two? If someone makes your bed and washes your breakfast dishes every day, why not thank them with a 50chf bill? Something has unfortunately been missing lately in Zermatt: gratitude. No, no one is oblidged to, it is just gratitude.
As a Swiss, I've never seen anyone hold a fondue fork this badly... in my life. I want this fact to resonate with you for a while. Also, dropping the bread into the pot is a crime.
Matt! Zermatt. Not Mont. Sorry, couldnt watch after the tenth time in the first few minutes, and the music is so loud a lot of your words were eaten. Could've been a great video, but didnt get very far.
Is it worth going around this time of year? I would really like to hike the 5 rivers hike (Blauherd-Sunnega) and check out the igloo if possible... I do not know how to ski :( Also, what's the best + budget-friendly way to get to Zermatt from Zurich to the hiking area and take some photos of the Matterhorn
If possible try to go about mid December since thats when they start the Iglu Durf and other winter activities. Heres the link to the website with the start date www.iglu-dorf.com/en/location/zermatt Chris also did not know how to ski so he took some lessons if thats something you are interested in! It is steep though so be ready for that if you go. To get to Zermatt you will have to take a train, i'm not sure which is cheapest. There are tons of websites to find the cheapest train and they usually are not too expensive. Let me know if you have any more questions!
you cannot do the normal hikes in outside of summer, the zermatt page has the relevant info. just be prepared this is a relatively expensive trip. You would probably take the train from zurich i don't see any other way really. Then if you want to take the lifts to go up & down, count on 100$ or more.
Probably the best Zermatt video I’ve watched.
Thank you! We really appreciate it

Is Zermont near Vermont?
No 😂 its very far
Right?!
Amazing and very informative video - thank you 😀
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello. Can you give insight if the trip is possible with small children?
I think so. They have classes for skiing for children if they have never skied before. Very safe town!
May I know this video is filmed during which month? As I am going there in March next year, still deciding which area to stay in Zermatt😅
This was filmed in January of 2022! If you are staying in Zermatt the town is pretty small so anywhere you stay will be close to everything!
How many feet high? Lol I would be so scared, but I wanna do it.
If you are scared of heights I would not recommend skiing since the mountains are pretty steep, but you should be fine for the glacier paradise! Its about 12,740 feet above sea level, so pretty high!
@@BrittChrisTravel thanks and yeah that’s the only thing I wanna do up there is the Glacier Paradise and look at Italy.
@@JayEMGetsFit You should do it then! The gondola ride is pretty steep to get up there but if you just look up its not as bad lol
Hope many days would you recommend to spend in Zermatt?
I would recommend a minimum of 3 days! there's a lot to do even if you are not skiing like sliding, hiking, and tons of attractions to visit in the small town. We stayed 5 days and only went skiing one day and we still never ran out of things to do.
@@BrittChrisTravel thanks, this is great to know. I booked 5 days but I’m already worried we will be bored 😂.
Hai Britt, may i know which month is this? is it in February?
Great question, this was in Mid-January
Can you tell us where the Riedment viewpoint exactly? I tried putting riedment viewpoint on map but it’s not showing up .
Do you mean Riedweg viewpoint? If so this explains how to get there www.zermatt.ch/en/Media/Attractions/Viewpoint-Riedweg. If that’s not what you are talking about let me know!
Very useful video, we'll be staying in Zermatt for 3 nights in next May & thanks for the tips! BTW, I thought Zermatt is pronounced as 'Ser Met'?
Glad you enjoyed our video! When we went we heard it as Zermatt but we could be wrong lol
tzèrmat
Exactly... Matt, not Mont!
did you ski?
Yes we did! In our video you can watch videos of us skiing!
how much does the train to iglu dorf cost with swiss travel pass?
The Swiss travel pass will give you half off of the current price, the link to the train is here since the price may change gornergratbahn.zermatt-tickets.com/?gclid=CjwKCAiA76-dBhByEiwAA0_s9TfVXLUUGXk078zqKgG_OcRB2xZ7go8g919If0QdVy50ylznSWkGXRoCnbIQAvD_BwE
Zermatt ich lieb es❤️❤️
We love it too!
Can’t wait!
So exciting, hope you enjoy your trip!
Cool😍
It was!
You can ski in zermat
Yes you can!
Sounds like the whole trip was "AMAZZZING" 🤣
It was! I couldn't find a better word to describe it lol
my hikin -climbin zermatt visit was summr of 68. my farthr donald sr was a ww2 tenth mtn soldier
Oh wow that’s so cool!
You can go to Zermatt also by taxi or helicopter!
That is great! But if you have the money to go by helicopter more power to you!
And the taxi stops on the outskirts of town and then you would have to transfer to another smaller electric taxi
Well, you can enter Zermatt also with a taxi, not just with the train. 😉
Oh I guess you could but it stops outside of town and then you would have to get another electric taxi to get to your hotel! We found the train was the easiest and most relaxing.
I wish my town banned cars lol
Me too it was really nice!
That’s my dream!
Mad person
Hi i live in switzerland in am right now in zermatt
That is amazing! Any recommendations on other fun winter places to go there?
@@BrittChrisTravel yes mybe sass-fee or grimentz i ride it rong but yea
Daam how expensive this it. If I traveled to Switzerland they should take every dollar I have for the rest of my life. Nooh when I be millionaire then can i travel to Switzerland.
It’s one of the more expensive places, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be done cheaply! We flew into Milan for about $700 and took the train into Switzerland to save money. Eating out was pricey so we started eating premade meals from the grocery store. If you plan it right it’s not that expensive!
I`m from Zermatt
Please learn to pronounce names because this was really difficult to listen. It’s not zermont it’s zerMatt
You can t ski to France from Zermatt , you are really tellung a lot of wrong thinks!
Our bad. It is between Zermatt, Switzerland and Italy.

Unfortunately we were not good enough skiers to test this trail out 🤣
Excellent video.
Glad you enjoy the video! And it’s always nice to tip
Jesus it's Zermatt not Zermont
Thanks for watching!
As a Swiss, I've never seen anyone hold a fondue fork this badly... in my life. I want this fact to resonate with you for a while. Also, dropping the bread into the pot is a crime.
Hey great video. Just wanted to feed back that your music is much louder than your voice. Pretty distracting. And it’s very repetitive.
Sorry about that, we will try to lower it in future videos
Matt! Zermatt. Not Mont. Sorry, couldnt watch after the tenth time in the first few minutes, and the music is so loud a lot of your words were eaten. Could've been a great video, but didnt get very far.
No skiing into France just Italy.
Its zermatt not zermawt
Cool!
Kulm Hotel , NOT Klum !!!
We are dyslexic!

What's with all of the mask-wearing propaganda?
Americans...
Heres the link to the website with the start date www.iglu-dorf.com/en/location/zermatt
Chris also did not know how to ski so he took some lessons if thats something you are interested in!
