- Theoden'in ölümü herkesi derinden üzerken, Witch King Pelennor Çayırlarına korku salar ve karşısında yiğit biri çıkar. Derler ki hiçbir erkek onu öldüremez. Fakat o bir erkek değildir. Rohanlı Eomund'un kızı Eowyn dir.

Nope, that's Mr. Slate from The Flintstones.
Eowyin's bravery is so inspiring
the animated Eowyn in this Rankin-Bass cartoon special is much better than Miranda Otto's version. Not only that, this cartoon is much more beautiful.
I love the Rankin and Bass animation style, Eowyn looks awesome in this!

Fun fact, in Shakespeare's Macbeth, there's a prophesy that the main character can be killed by "No man born of a woman" When Tolkien read that, he got excited thinking that he has guessed the twist, that Macbeth would be killed by a woman. He was so mad when that didn't happen he decided to write a similar prophesy in his book with the twist he wanted.
I felt a little cheated myself that Macduff was born via c-section and therefore not “born of a woman”. That’s just prophecy-lawyering, I’m with Tolkien on this one
Then how the fuck did Macbeth die then
@@moemuxhagi he was killed by Macduff who was born by c-section, so still quite a clever twist

I love how the Witch King and Eowyn wait politely as the two hobbits deliver their lines of surprise about Eowyn coming to fight. 😆
Yeah, it all kinda sounds like a school play when said aloud like that.
Pauses like that are typical in Manga and anime. This movie was ahead the curve.

Well, you don't just give a ring of power to some riff raff off the street. He was a king, accustomed to the courtesy of a royal, if evil, court.
The book describes the Witch King's voice as "stinging the very ears like venom."

One thing I like is if you pay attention, the Witch King visibly pulls back when Eowyn reveals she's a woman. You get the feeling he's thinking 'Oh crap, I hadn't thought about that'. Which is accurate to the book.
He was like "Ma'am, I don't think the prophecy was talking about gender. It says man in the sense of the human kind. That still doesn't count, you can't kill me. That's against the rule."

I was half expecting Eowyn to pull off the Witch King’s mask and reveal him as Mr. Demblethorpe, owner and operator of the amusement park he wanted to convince everyone was haunted so he could sell it at a massive profit margin.
And he would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for that meddling fellowship

I love how Witch-King was trolled three times over. When he spoke of a prophecy, "No man shall slay thee," it was said to him by an Elf he fought while fighting the northern kingdom. As Witch-King was slain, he was slain by a Woman of Man and a Hobbit who bore a blade from that same war.
It reminds me of the witches' prophecy in Macbeth that he would not be killed by any man born of a woman. His killer, Macduff reveals that he was born by caesarean section, which in those days would have meant 'not of a woman' because it was not a natural birth and c-sections were rare. Oh to be a member of the audience when that plot twist dropped!
@@Raptor302 Yeah, I feel like this and the Huorns are Tolkien's fix-fic for parts of Macbeth thought he thought were stupid or could have been cooler 😂
Tolkine made the Witch King's prophecy literally to prove a point against Shakespeare. The prophecy was told that he would not die by the hand of a man. But the prophecy wasn't written. So it could mean both "man" in the sense of a male, and Man in the sense of the race. And it happens in both ways: Merry (a man, but not of the race of Man) and Eowyn (of the race of Man, but not a man), killed him
If the Elf said it than he must have been man, as opposed to women since Elves and Man were different races
@@superjlk_9538It took both Merry and Eowyn to slay him.
I love that shot of Eowyn with her hair flowing in the wind.
The animators did a great job
I love that the creative decision was made to have the actual sound of a deflating balloon play when the witch king died.
Just the way Tolkien intended as he wrote in the book the following passage:
"Pssssssssssht."
“It’s; it’s empty! Just like a balloon!” 🎈
My boy got deflated!
like they mixed this epic stuff but someone thought they had to have "typical late 70s cartoon sound effects" from time to time.
Imagine living for centuries, only to be defeated by one stab to the butt, and another to the invisible head
Actually Merry Brandybuck did not stab the witch King in the behind he stabbed him in the back of his knee either way being stabbed with a blade crafted by the weaponsmiths of the kingdom of arnor which was one of the realms in exile created by Elendil the Tall and his sons, was fatal to the witch king of angmar. It weakened the witch King to the point where Eowyn was able to deliver the killing blow.
Actually behind the knee, using a weapon originally forged to fight him. Just saying.
I love the unironic "akshully☝🤓". Regardless of what the books say, you can clearly see the sword going up his butt in this cartoon.
ACSHUALLY... ☝️🤓
Try thousands of years.
The Witch King:
No living man may hinder ME!
Eowyn:
I smell a loophole!
I mean, in the books it was made quite clear that it wasn't a loophole or a technicality but how things were meant to unfold and in the Witch King's arrogance he thought himself invulnerable. It's actually one of my biggest gripes with the films because it led us the audience to believe it too, and then he goes down seemingly so easily.
@@abrahamedelstein4806 Much simpler: it was a profecy
Gil Galad saw in the future the defeat of the witch king by Eowyn and Merry, but not so clearly.
All he could tell was that was slained by something that was not a men
A woman can do what a man can do. Yeah!!
@RoachDoggJr yeah honestly this part always bothered me. Especially given the context, when he said man he didn't mean it in the literal gendered sense. It strikes off that in a series that had almost exclusively men in combat and drew inspiration from history that there was this one oddly feminist part. Always stook out.

DOES THOU NOT KNOW THE PROPHECY?!
Because he's not a man either. Remember the prophecy.
He also has an enchanted blade that was the actual reason she was able to kill him. It wasn't really because she was a women since " man " was referring to the race if men which includes women. It was merry's special blade that actually weakened him. Also he's a hobbit.

This version has really grown on me. At this point in the books, Eowyn was resolute and wanted to die in a fitting way. She was suffering from severe depression and the death of her uncle sent her over the edge. Much like Theoden at Helm's Deep, she's accepted death and wishes to face it head on, standing tall in front of it's incarnation. Though it's certainly not perfect, I prefer it over Jackson's version of the scene, and his whole take on Eowyn's character, which didn't translate well into the screen in my opinion.
