As great a the movies were I will always love this part from the cartoon more. Eowyn’s dialogue is much better there is no hint of modern girl-boss nonsense. She just a brave woman fighting for her lord and kin. Still… the movie are honestly an unparalleled masterpiece. No fictional work of literature has been adapted better than LOTR.

Merry's dagger was an epic tier magical artifact designed and enchanted specifically to slay spirit warriors of Morgoth, as the Nazgul were. It was the only reason Eowyn could harm the Witch King at all, woman or not. Merry's blade severely wounded and stunned the invulnerable spirit warrior and bound him fully to Middle Earth for a moment, so Eowyn or ANY mortal man could then actually harm him with a normal weapon.

I think the reveal in the Jackson version is a little more impactful, where the Witch King is baffled any man can slay him….only for Eowyn to reveal herself to be no man…..but a woman.
