- I totally believe that God still speaks today but the amount of “I hear God saying” and “God told me tell you” in these sermons deserves a side eye. Since what often follows the declaration of God having something to say is rarely scripture or at least scriptural. We’re on holy ground whenever we employ prophetic authority to make a point. So be careful.
“Don’t stifle the Spirit. Don’t despise prophecies, but test all things. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil.”

I remember back in college, when EVERYone wanted to prophesy and folks were speaking “thus says the Lord” and lying on God left and right. I do not play about that gift. I’m baffled at how many social media prophets there are and why so many people think it’s okay to be telling folks what God said. Even when giving a word from God, you don’t have to say “God said.” But so many people are out here trying to operate in gifts with no spiritual leadership, discipleship or education (and I don’t mean it has to be seminary).
Seems many people want attention and to fee special. I saw that a lot in NA, like AA which I don't go to anymore. People would talk about how they were the worst drug addict ever and their HP saved them. They were challenging each other in the group on who was the biggest miracle. A competition. Again, they want to be special despite out of the other side of their mouth they talk about humility.... Not just in social media.. Peace.

You're on it. As someone who comes from a prophetic church and God has used me prophetically, we have to be on guard that we don't rush to say what we THINK God wants us to say. Then, when we receive a prophetic word, we MUST take it back to God in prayer. Prophetic Words should accompany scripture. God performs His word not our opinions. Good word Jackie, great reminder.

Heavenly Father, only you know the burdens I face. As a single mom I’m struggling to make ends meet. Lord give me strength to get through each day. If we have reverential fear of God, we will not be hasty in saying that God said something. We do need to return to the basic tenets of the faith. We also need to make sure our godly platforms glorify God and not promote self.

Joseph had dreams from the Lord and so did the other Joseph- father of Jesus. It says in scripture ““Then, after doing all those things, I will pour out my Spirit upon all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams, and your young men will see visions.”
The best thing I ever learned from the Bible classes I took years and years ago is that we often go to the Word looking for conformation, but we should going to the Word to understand what God is saying on a matter. Those are two different approaches. We can almost always find a way to see "confirmation". But if we're going in really seeking what the Lord is saying about something, it opens us up to being led in the direction He sees fit.
Been a believer for many years and thankful to my early pastors who taught me to weigh all teachings against God's Word!
It 'pains' me to see the lack of reverence and fear of God tthat exist today from so many pulpits and there are many believing and repeating the deceptions because of NOT seeking the Lord thru His Word for themselves!

Wrong. The work and gifts of the Holy Spirit are still operational TODAY but not every one that calls themselves a ‘pastor, Apostle or prophet’ is called or chosen or given the word. My Apostle told me what will happen on the actual day and time and it did. He was given the gift and the gift was used for the work of the ministry. The gift is just that, a gift of the Holy Spirit. Just like we don’t give gifts to everyone, so too does the Lord. Read Spiritus Sanctus by Dr Emmanuel Osei- Acheampong for a deeper understanding of the Holy Spirit.

I think one of the reasons why we are so easily deceived is because we weren’t taught the fundamentals well or for some of us not at all. Some of the church weren’t properly discipled.

I realized early on that God was just saying too many things to too many people.
I walked into a convention once and a guy ran up on me and said “God told me to tell you something !”
I said “ok what’s that?”
He paused, started searching his mind like he was looking for a radio station , I’m standing there, he’s moving his lips and his eyes are searching his mind, I said “ok?”
He said “never mind. It’s gone now.”
Then he started talking to someone else.
In Christ you have to put up with many types. You can’t let them get you off path.

Giiiirl listen! I went to a tabernacle for the first time in 10+ years last weekend (I was invited), and this man read ONE scripture and then freestyled the rest of the sermon adding all types of metaphors, silioquies, similies, analogies, algorithms, and equations into his message.
As a Writer, I applaud his grammatical prowess, but baby, GIMME THE WORD!!!!

This is so powerful and important. I'm wondering about the difference and nuance between practicing hearing the voice of God for yourself and for others (in a low-stakes environment) and utilizing a public platform to do so. Ultimately, it is our spiritual duty to cultivate intimacy with God for ourselves, and with that, we must be responsible for our engagement with hearing, weighing, and sharing what we believe to be God-breathed, etc. There is grace for being incorrect, of course, but it's worth exploring with the Lord how to cultivate prophetic engagement according to His terms. It's truth held in tension; we're encouraged to prophesy but when has the prophetic rhema been divorced from God and His logos? From intimacy, we prophesy! The gifts are free but intimacy must be cultivated. Lord, may we not settle for autopilot when we're engaging in the practice of hearing from you! Thank you, Jackie, for this reminder.
When I went to Nyack College (a Christian college), our leaders in the Spiritual Formation department taught us how to communicate to others when we sense that God is giving a prophetic Word to another through us. We were taught to never say “The Lord says” or “Thus saith the Lord”. This would imply that WE in ourselves have the authority of scripture. Rather, we were taught to say “I sense that God is saying” or “I feel that God is saying”. This shows humility and shows the other person that this is a prophetic impression, not a dogmatic rule. The person on the receiving end can test the prophetic Word according the Word of God for themselves

That is not true. God spoke through prophets of old, but just as then, not everyone who said they were, actually were. God now speaks through Jesus, the only way, truth and life. Just as Jesus spoke through His Apostles, in the Holy Spirit, in the New Testament, so He does today, but not everyone that calls themselves are, and not all have been given the gift. Read Spiritus Sanctus- the Holy Spirit, by Dr Emmanuel Osei-Acheampong. Jesus has not changed.

God did speak through His prophets. Jesus preached the "Gospel of the Kingdom" to Israel during his earthly ministry Mt 4:23, Mt 9:35, Mk 1:14, Mt 4:17. John the Baptist preached the gospel of the kingdom to Israel LK 16:16, Mt 3:2. Jesus sent His 12 disciples/apostles preached the gospel of the kingdom to Israel Lk 9: 1-2, 6, Mt 10:7, Acts 2:38 with signs of apostles Acts 5:12.
Paul preached the "Gospel of Christ" according to the revelation of the mystery!

The 1st thing apostle Paul says in 1 Cor 12: 1, is he don't want you to be ignorant, unlearned about gifts.
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
At the end of 1 Cor 12: 31, Paul informs us, despite all these gifts, he will show you a more excellent way!
31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

8 Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.
9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.
10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.
Vs 8, Charity never fails: Ministry of the Holy Spirit will never run out, give out, pass out, stop working. But the gifts would fail, would stop working, would cease, would vanish away. Why, because of the more excellent way!
Why: Vs 9, At that time the body of Christ had the partial understanding God wanted them to have, while the spiritual gifts were still in effect. Know in part, prophesied in part.
Gifts only needed while the knowledge was partial, not completely given. Partial understanding. Gifts not needed when full knowledge, complete revelation of God given.
When: Vs 10, That which is Perfect, that in part is done away! When that time comes there will be no need for spiritual gifts. We will have a more excellent, more superior way, for God to communicate His operation to the body of Christ.
Perfect knowledge, perfecting knowledge, full knowledge, complete revelation of God, the written word, the bible. All spiritual gifts will be done away, the perfect has come. That which is perfect and complete is the written, revelation from God, the Bible.
God is not adding to His Word the Bible, it is complete. So there are no new prophecies, no new scriptures, no additional words of God to be added to the cannon of scriptures.
Which means, there are no prophets today. Which means they are lying, when they say God gave them this word or God said this or that.

Wow 3:05 - 3:30 is EXACTLY why it’s hard for me to find a church that’s edifying, preachers now will literally read one verse of scripture then go off on a complete tangent that has nothing to do with what they read nor the word of God! Amos 8:11 say “ behold the days are coming says the Lord God, that I will send a famine on the land, Not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord”. I believe that famine is now in the land!

She just confirmed something God told me back in 2015: We have to go back to the basics. I didn't know what that meant then. I was a new Christian; I most certainly know what it means now.
The Bible is our foundation, not the ceiling. The body of Christ needs to develop discernment to tell what’s from God and what isn’t. Some things that may look right in our eyes may be wrong in Gods eyes (and vice versa).

Well it's depends on how and what he's preaching....most pastors can pretty much quote the Bible....but many different preachers preach many different ways......but the congregation should always have a Bible....

This is something that bothers me alot. Some people just want you to think that God closer to them than anyone else. If it is not found in the bible and even if it is found in the bible it has to be in context and something that God says is for us. I just watch and examine everything an everyone. I must test the spirit even when it comes to my own thoughts, because my thoughts be messy at times. Further, some of us simply need to shut up and examine stuff before sharing. Remember satan used scripture when he tempted Jesus. Dont allow the enemy to use scripture to mess you up, mirror Jesus, He is our example study to show yourself approve, allow the Holy Spirit to Lead.
